2025-09-03spi: spi-fsl-dspi: Target mode improvementsMark Brown1-19/+28
Merge series from James Clark <james.clark@linaro.org>: Improve usability of target mode by reporting FIFO errors and increasing the buffer size when DMA is used. While we're touching DMA stuff also switch to non-coherent memory, although this is unrelated to target mode. With the combination of the commit to increase the DMA buffer size and the commit to use non-coherent memory, the host mode performance figures are as follows on S32G3: # spidev_test --device /dev/spidev1.0 --bpw 8 --size <test_size> --cpha --iter 10000000 --speed 10000000 Coherent (4096 byte transfers): 6534 kbps Non-coherent: 7347 kbps Coherent (16 byte transfers): 447 kbps Non-coherent: 448 kbps Just for comparison running the same test in XSPI mode: 4096 byte transfers: 2143 kbps 16 byte transfers: 637 kbps These tests required hacking S32G3 to use DMA in host mode, although the figures should be representative of target mode too where DMA is used. And the other devices that use DMA in host mode should see similar improvements.

To avoid repeating the same default prescale value for every new device's devdata, treat 0 as no limit (7) and only set a value when the erratum is present. 2025-09-01spi: spi-fsl-lpspi: Clear status register after disabling the moduleLarisa Grigore1-4/+5
Clear the error flags after disabling the module to avoid the case when a flag is set again between flag clear and module disable. And use SR_CLEAR_MASK to replace hardcoded value for improved readability. Although fsl_lpspi_reset() was only introduced in commit a15dc3d657fa ("spi: lpspi: Fix CLK pin becomes low before one transfer"), the original driver only reset SR in the interrupt handler, making it vulnerable to the same issue. Therefore the fixes commit is set at the introduction of the driver. Commit 6a130448498c ("spi: lpspi: Fix wrong transmission when don't use CONT") breaks transmissions when CONT is used. The TDIE interrupt should not be disabled in all cases. If CONT is used and the TX transfer is not yet completed yet, but the interrupt handler is called because there are characters to be received, TDIE is replaced with FCIE. 2024-09-30spi: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/spi to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. The change for the spi-npcm-fiu stands out in the diffstat because the inconsistent formatting style of the platform_driver initializer is fixed to match the other struct initializer in the file. 2024-09-05spi: spi-fsl-lpspi: Fix off-by-one in prescale maxStefan Wahren1-2/+2
The commit 783bf5d09f86 ("spi: spi-fsl-lpspi: limit PRESCALE bit in TCR register") doesn't implement the prescaler maximum as intended. The maximum allowed value for i.MX93 should be 1 and for i.MX7ULP it should be 7. So this needs also a adjustment of the comparison in the scldiv calculation. 2024-08-08spi: spi-fsl-lpspi: Fix scldiv calculationStefan Wahren1-2/+4
The effective SPI clock frequency should never exceed speed_hz otherwise this might result in undefined behavior of the SPI device. Currently the scldiv calculation could violate this constraint. For the example parameters perclk_rate = 24 MHz and speed_hz = 7 MHz, the function fsl_lpspi_set_bitrate will determine perscale = 0 and scldiv = 1, which is a effective SPI clock of 8 MHz. So fix this by rounding up the quotient of perclk_rate and speed_hz. While this never change within the loop, we can pull this out. 2023-03-11spi: Replace all spi->chip_select and spi->cs_gpiod references with function ↵Amit Kumar Mahapatra via Alsa-devel1-1/+1
call Supporting multi-cs in spi drivers would require the chip_select & cs_gpiod members of struct spi_device to be an array. But changing the type of these members to array would break the spi driver functionality. To make the transition smoother introduced four new APIs to get/set the spi->chip_select & spi->cs_gpiod and replaced all spi->chip_select and spi->cs_gpiod references with get or set API calls. While adding multi-cs support in further patches the chip_select & cs_gpiod members of the spi_device structure would be converted to arrays & the "idx" parameter of the APIs would be used as array index i.e., spi->chip_select[idx] & spi->cs_gpiod[idx] respectively. 2023-03-06spi: fsl-lpspi: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-3/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2020-11-12spi: lpspi: Fix use-after-free on unbindLukas Wunner1-3/+0
Normally the last reference on an spi_controller is released by spi_unregister_controller(). In the case of the i.MX lpspi driver, the spi_controller is registered with devm_spi_register_controller(), so spi_unregister_controller() is invoked automatically after the driver has unbound. However the driver already releases the last reference in fsl_lpspi_remove() through a gratuitous call to spi_master_put(), causing a use-after-free when spi_unregister_controller() is subsequently invoked by the devres framework. Fix by dropping the superfluous spi_master_put().
