Replace manual alignment checks with IS_ALIGNED() and ADDRESS_IS_ALIGNED(). Convert the following bitmask and modulo forms: - ((E & ((PowOf2Expr) - ONE)) == ZERO) - ((E & ((PowOf2Expr) - ONE)) != ZERO) - ((E % (PowOf2Expr)) == ZERO) - ((E % (PowOf2Expr)) != ZERO) to the corresponding helper macro forms: + IS_ALIGNED (E, PowOf2Expr) + !IS_ALIGNED (E, PowOf2Expr) PowOf2Expr is limited to known power-of-two expressions, including SIZE_* and BASE_* macros, EFI_PAGE_SIZE, CPU_STACK_ALIGNMENT, RUNTIME_PAGE_ALLOCATION_GRANULARITY, sizeof() of UEFI integer types (e.g. BOOLEAN, CHAR16, UINT32, UINTN) and pointer types, and 1 << E1 expressions. 2026-02-24MdePkg: Replace include guards with #pragma onceMichael Kubacki1-4/+1
Replace traditional `#ifndef`/`#define`/`#endif` include guards with `#pragma` once. `#pragma once` is a widely supported preprocessor directive that prevents header files from being included multiple times. It is supported by all toolchains used to build edk2: GCC, Clang/LLVM, and MSVC. Compared to macro-based include guards, `#pragma once`: - Eliminates the risk of macro name collisions or copy/paste errors where two headers inadvertently use the same guard macro. - Eliminate inconsistency in the way include guard macros are named (e.g., some files use `__FILE_H__`, others use `FILE_H_`, etc.). - Reduces boilerplate (three lines replaced by one). - Avoids polluting the macro namespace with guard symbols. - Can improve build times as the preprocessor can skip re-opening the file entirely, rather than re-reading it to find the matching `#endif` ("multiple-include optimization"). - Note that some compilers may already optimize traditional include guards, by recognzining the idiomatic pattern. This change is made acknowledging that overall portability of the code will technically be reduced, as `#pragma once` is not part of the C/C++ standards. However, this is considered acceptable given: 1. edk2 already defines a subset of supported compilers in BaseTools/Conf/tools_def.template, all of which have supported `#pragma once` for over two decades. 2. There have been concerns raised to the project about inconsistent include guard naming and potential macro collisions. After updating between various VS2022 versions such as 17.4 to 17.5, , linker failures began to appear in several modules because `memset` is an unresolved symbol. The following functions in BaseMemoryLib/MemLibGeneric.c have their loop pattern replaced with the `memset` intrinsic function: - `InternalMemSetMem16()` - `InternalMemSetMem32()` - `InternalMemSetMem64()` An example of an error related to `InternalMemSetMem64()` in VariableSmmRuntimeDxe is shown below: ``` INFO - BaseMemoryLib.lib(MemLibGeneric.obj) : error LNK2001: unresolved external symbol memset INFO - <...>\VariableSmmRuntimeDxe.dll : fatal error LNK1120: 1 unresolved externals ``` This was reproduced in several environments including: - Public VM image: https://github.com/actions/runner-images/blob/win22/20230226.1/images/win/Windows2022-Readme.md - Locally when updating from 17.4.4 to 17.5.1 > Note: This image (with 17.4) does not have this issue https://github.com/actions/runner-images/blob/win22/20230219.1/images/win/Windows2022-Readme.md This change updates the type cast for the destination buffer to be a pointer to `volatile` data to prevent this optimization with a relatively minimum delta to prior implementation. When the compiler linking the Object files it may not remove all the unused from NASM OBJs. This commit refines the logic for InternalMemSetMem16|32|64 functions. It avoids using the decrement operator '--' for array index to prevent possible mis-reports by static code checkers. Please note that those modified functions are only consumed within MemoryLib by APIs SetMem16|32|64, and those APIs will handle the case when the input number of bytes to set is 0. Hence, the behavior of APIs SetMem16|32|64 is not changed. The change is to the loop that handles the case where neither the source nor the destination are 64-bit or 32-bit aligned and the logic falls through to a loop that performs the copy as bytes. Only the loop that copies bytes backwards needs to be updated to avoid the VS2015 build error. Unlike other string functions in this library, ZeroMem () does not return early when the length of the input buffer is 0. So add the same to ZeroMem () as well, for all implementations of BaseMemoryLib living under MdePkg/ This fixes an issue with the ARM implementation of BaseMemoryLibOPtDxe, whose InternalMemZeroMem code does not expect a length of 0, and always writes at least a single byte. Since the default BaseMemoryLib should be callable from any context, including ones where unaligned accesses are not allowed, it implements InternalCopyMem() and InternalSetMem() using byte accesses only. updates: 1. Remove .intel_syntax directives in GCC assembly files. All these assembly files have been updated to use the preferred syntax for GAS 2. Correct the incorrect comments for internal worker functions for SetMemXX() and ScanMemXX(). The Length parameter is actually the counter of 16-bit, 32-bit or 64-bit value. 3. Simplify the logic in ZeroMemoryWrapper.c for BaseMemoryLibOptPei instance to remove the conditional statement for zero length. This logic is already covered by worker function InternalMemZeroMem(). 4. Cleanup all the Wrapper C files in BaseMemoryLib instances. They are supposed to be shared by all these 8 BaseMemoryLib instances, but are out-of-sync after some maintenance. This patch re-syncs them and makes them exactly the same. 5.
