2021-08-12platform/x86: ISST: Fix optimization with use of numaSrinivas Pandruvada1-1/+2
When numa is used to map CPU to PCI device, the optimized path to read from cached data is not working and still calls _isst_if_get_pci_dev(). The reason is that when caching the mapping, numa information is not available as it is read later. So move the assignment of isst_cpu_info[cpu].numa_node before calling _isst_if_get_pci_dev(). 2021-06-18platform/x86: ISST: Use numa node id for cpu pci dev mappingSrinivas Pandruvada1-2/+46
There is a problem in mapping CPU to a PCI device instance when the bus numbers are reused in different packages. This was observed on some Sapphire Rapids systems. The current implementation reads bus number assigned to a CPU package via MSR 0x128. This allows to establish relationship between a CPU and a PCI device. This allows to update power related parameters to a MMIO offset in a PCI device space which is unique to a CPU. But if two packages uses same bus number then this mapping will not be unique. When bus number is reused, PCI device will use different domain number or segment number. So we need to be aware of this domain information while matching CPU to PCI bus number. This domain information is not available via any MSR. So need to use ACPI numa node information. There is an interface already available in the Linux to read numa node for a CPU and a PCI device. This change uses this interface to check the numa node of a match PCI device with bus number. If the bus number and numa node matches with the CPU's assigned bus number and numa node, the matched PCI device instance will be returned to the caller. It is possible that before Sapphire Rapids, the numa node is not defined for the Speed Select PCI device in some OEM systems. In this case to restore old behavior, return the last matched PCI device for domain 0 unlsess there are more than one matches. 2021-06-18platform/x86: ISST: Optimize CPU to PCI device mappingSrinivas Pandruvada1-5/+24
It was observed that some of the high performance benchmarks are spending more time in kernel depending on which CPU package they are executing. The difference is significant and benchmark scores varies more than 10%. These benchmarks adjust class of service to improve thread performance which run in parallel. This class of service change causes access to MMIO region of Intel Speed Select PCI devices depending on the CPU package they are executing. This mapping from CPU to PCI device instance uses a standard Linux PCI interface "pci_get_domain_bus_and_slot()". This function does a linear search to get to a PCI device. Since these platforms have 100+ PCI devices, this search can be expensive in fast path for benchmarks. Since the device and function of PCI device is fixed for Intel Speed Select PCI devices, the CPU to PCI device information can be cached at the same time when bus number for the CPU is read. In this way during runtime the cached information can be used. This improves performance of these benchmarks significantly. In some cases when firmware is busy or updating, some mailbox commands still timeout on some newer CPUs. To fix this issue, change how we process timeout. With this change, replaced timeout from using simple count with real timeout in micro-seconds using ktime. When the command response takes more than average processing time, yield to other tasks. The worst case timeout is extended upto 1 milli-second. 2019-07-02platform/x86: ISST: Restore state on resumeSrinivas Pandruvada5-1/+258
Commands which causes PUNIT writes, store them and restore them on system resume. The driver stores all such requests in a hash table and stores the the latest mailbox request parameters. On resume these commands mail box commands are executed again. There are only 5 such mail box commands which will trigger such processing so a very low overhead in store and execute on resume. Also there is no order requirement for mail box commands for these write/set commands. There is one MSR request for changing turbo ratio limits, this also stored and get restored on resume and cpu online. While using new non arhitectural features using PUNIT Mailbox and MMIO read/write interface, still there is need to operate using MSRs to control PUNIT. User space could have used user user-space MSR interface for this, but when user space MSR access is disabled, then it can't. Here only limited number of MSRs are allowed using this new interface. There are two per CPU data needs to be stored and cached to avoid repeated MSR readings for accessing them later: - Physical to logical CPU conversion The PUNIT uses a different CPU numbering scheme which is not APIC id based. So we need to establish relationship between PUNIT CPU number and Linux logical CPU numbering which is based on APIC id. There is an MSR 0x53 (MSR_THREAD_ID), which gets physical CPU number for the local CPU where it is read. Also the CPU mask in some messages will inform which CPUs needs to be online/offline for a TDP level. During TDP switch if user offlined some CPUs, then the physical CPU mask can't be converted as we can't read MSR on an offlined CPU to go to a lower TDP level by onlining more CPUs. So the mapping needs to be established at the boot up time. - Bus number corresponding to a CPU A group of CPUs are in a control of a PUNIT. The PUNIT device is exported as PCI device. To do operation on a PUNIT for a CPU, we need to find out to which PCI device it is related to. This is done by reading MSR 0x128 (MSR_CPU_BUS_NUMBER). So during CPU online stages the above MSRs are read and stored. Later this stored information is used to process IOCTLs request from the user space. 2019-07-02platform/x86: ISST: Add common API to register and handle ioctlsSrinivas Pandruvada4-0/+266
Encapsulate common functions which all Intel Speed Select Technology interface drivers can use. This creates API to register misc device for user kernel communication and handle all common IOCTLs. As part of the registry it allows a callback which is to handle domain specific ioctl processing. There can be multiple drivers register for services, which can be built as modules. So this driver handle contention during registry and as well as during removal. Once user space opened the misc device, the registered driver will be prevented from removal. Also once misc device is opened by the user space new client driver can't register, till the misc device is closed. There are two types of client drivers, one to handle mail box interface and the other is to allow direct read/write to some specific MMIO space. This common driver implements IOCTL ISST_IF_GET_PLATFORM_INFO.
