2025-05-07drm/i915/rps: refactor display rps supportJani Nikula1-7/+3
Make the gt rps code and display irq code interact via intel_display_rps.[ch], instead of direct access. Add no-op static inline stubs for xe instead of having a separate build unit doing nothing. All of this clarifies the interfaces between i915 core and display. 2025-05-01drm/i915/slpc: Balance the inc/dec for num_waitersVinay Belgaumkar1-3/+11
As seen in some recent failures, SLPC num_waiters value is < 0. This happens because the inc/dec are not balanced. We should skip decrement for the same conditions as the increment. Currently, we do that for power saving profile mode. This patch also ensures that num_waiters is incremented in the case min_softlimit is at boost freq. It ensures that we don't reduce the frequency while this request is in flight. v2: Add Fixes tags Closes: https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/i915/kernel/-/issues/13598 Fixes: f864a29afc32 ("drm/i915/slpc: Optmize waitboost for SLPC") Fixes: 4a82ceb04ad4 ("drm/i915/slpc: Add sysfs for SLPC power profiles") Cc: Sk Anirban <sk.anirban@intel.com> Reviewed-by: Sk Anirban <sk.anirban@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Vinay Belgaumkar <vinay.belgaumkar@intel.com> Signed-off-by: Daniele Ceraolo Spurio <daniele.ceraolospurio@intel.com> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/20250428183555.3250021-1-vinay.belgaumkar@intel.com

When set, KMD sends a hint to GuC which results in special handling for this context. SLPC will ramp the GT frequency aggressively every time it switches to this context. The down freq threshold will also be lower so GuC will ramp down the GT freq for this context more slowly. We also disable waitboost for this context as that will interfere with the strategy. We need to enable the use of SLPC Compute strategy during init, but it will apply only to contexts that set this bit during context creation. While generating the list of UABI engines to be exposed to the user, exclude any additional CCS engines beyond the first instance *** NOTE: This W/A will make all DG2 SKUs appear like single CCS SKUs by default to mitigate a hardware bug. All the EUs will still remain usable, and all the userspace drivers have been confirmed to be able to dynamically detect the change in number of CCS engines and adjust. For the smaller percent of applications that get perf benefit from letting the userspace driver dispatch across all 4 CCS engines we will be introducing a sysfs control as a later patch to choose 4 CCS each with 25% EUs (or 50% if 2 CCS). Expose intel_rps_read_actual_frequency_fw to read the actual freq without taking forcewake for use by PMU. The code is refactored to use a common set of functions across sysfs and PMU. 2023-01-25drm/i915/display: add intel_display_limits.h for key enumsJani Nikula1-0/+1
Move a handful of key enums to a new file intel_display_limits.h. These are the enum types, and the MAX/NUM enumerations within them, that are used in other headers. Otherwise, there's no common theme between them. Replace intel_display.h include with intel_display_limit.h where relevant, and add the intel_display.h include directly in the .c files where needed. Since intel_display.h is used almost everywhere in display/, include it from intel_display_types.h to avoid massive changes across the board. There are very few files that would need intel_display_types.h but not intel_display.h so this is neglible, and further cleanup between these headers can be left for the future. Overall this change drops the direct and indirect dependencies on intel_display.h from about 300 to about 100 compilation units, because we can drop the include from i915_drv.h. 2022-08-24drm/i915/guc/slpc: Allow SLPC to use efficient frequencyVinay Belgaumkar1-1/+6
Host Turbo operates at efficient frequency when GT is not idle unless the user or workload has forced it to a higher level. Replicate the same behavior in SLPC by allowing the algorithm to use efficient frequency. We had disabled it during boot due to concerns that it might break kernel ABI for min frequency. However, this is not the case since SLPC will still abide by the (min, max) range limits. With this change, min freq will be at efficient frequency level at init instead of fused min (RPn). If user chooses to reduce min freq below the efficient freq, we will turn off usage of efficient frequency and honor the user request. When a higher value is written, it will get toggled back again. The patch also corrects the register which needs to be read for obtaining the correct efficient frequency for Gen9+. We see much better perf numbers with benchmarks like glmark2 with efficient frequency usage enabled as expected. v2: Address review comments (Rodrigo) v3: with efficient frequency being dynamic, it is possible that the req frequency may go beyond max freq. This will cause SLPC selftests to fail. Add a FIXME there to start the test with [RPn, RP0] instead and restore it afterwards.
