2024-04-01ip_tunnel: convert __be16 tunnel flags to bitmapsAlexander Lobakin1-2/+2
Historically, tunnel flags like TUNNEL_CSUM or TUNNEL_ERSPAN_OPT have been defined as __be16. Now all of those 16 bits are occupied and there's no more free space for new flags. It can't be simply switched to a bigger container with no adjustments to the values, since it's an explicit Endian storage, and on LE systems (__be16)0x0001 equals to (__be64)0x0001000000000000. We could probably define new 64-bit flags depending on the Endianness, i.e. (__be64)0x0001 on BE and (__be64)0x00010000... on LE, but that would introduce an Endianness dependency and spawn a ton of Sparse warnings. To mitigate them, all of those places which were adjusted with this change would be touched anyway, so why not define stuff properly if there's no choice. Define IP_TUNNEL_*_BIT counterparts as a bit number instead of the value already coded and a fistful of <16 <-> bitmap> converters and helpers. The two flags which have a different bit position are SIT_ISATAP_BIT and VTI_ISVTI_BIT, as they were defined not as __cpu_to_be16(), but as (__force __be16), i.e. had different positions on LE and BE. Now they both have strongly defined places. Change all __be16 fields which were used to store those flags, to IP_TUNNEL_DECLARE_FLAGS() -> DECLARE_BITMAP(__IP_TUNNEL_FLAG_NUM) -> unsigned long[1] for now, and replace all TUNNEL_* occurrences to their bitmap counterparts. Use the converters in the places which talk to the userspace, hardware (NFP) or other hosts (GRE header). The rest must explicitly use the new flags only. This must be done at once, otherwise there will be too many conversions throughout the code in the intermediate commits. Finally, disable the old __be16 flags for use in the kernel code (except for the two 'irregular' flags mentioned above), to prevent any accidental (mis)use of them. For the userspace, nothing is changed, only additions were made. Most noticeable bloat-o-meter difference (.text): vmlinux: 307/-1 (306) gre.ko: 62/0 (62) ip_gre.ko: 941/-217 (724) [*] ip_tunnel.ko: 390/-900 (-510) [**] ip_vti.ko: 138/0 (138) ip6_gre.ko: 534/-18 (516) [*] ip6_tunnel.ko: 118/-10 (108) [*] gre_flags_to_tnl_flags() grew, but still is inlined [**] ip_tunnel_find() got uninlined, hence such decrease The average code size increase in non-extreme case is 100-200 bytes per module, mostly due to sizeof(long) > sizeof(__be16), as %__IP_TUNNEL_FLAG_NUM is less than %BITS_PER_LONG and the compilers are able to expand the majority of bitmap_*() calls here into direct operations on scalars. 2023-10-23ipv6: add new arguments to udp_tunnel6_dst_lookup()Beniamino Galvani1-3/+4
We want to make the function more generic so that it can be used by other UDP tunnel implementations such as geneve and vxlan. To do that, add the following arguments: - source and destination UDP port; - ifindex of the output interface, needed by vxlan; - the tos, because in some cases it is not taken from struct ip_tunnel_info (for example, when it's inherited from the inner packet); - the dst cache, because not all tunnel types (e.g. vxlan) want to use the one from struct ip_tunnel_info. With these parameters, the function no longer needs the full struct ip_tunnel_info as argument and we can pass only the relevant part of it (struct ip_tunnel_key). This is similar to what already done for IPv4 in commit 72fc68c6356b ("ipv4: add new arguments to udp_tunnel_dst_lookup()"). 2022-09-01rxrpc: Fix ICMP/ICMP6 error handlingDavid Howells1-0/+4
Because rxrpc pretends to be a tunnel on top of a UDP/UDP6 socket, allowing it to siphon off UDP packets early in the handling of received UDP packets thereby avoiding the packet going through the UDP receive queue, it doesn't get ICMP packets through the UDP ->sk_error_report() callback. In fact, it doesn't appear that there's any usable option for getting hold of ICMP packets. Fix this by adding a new UDP encap hook to distribute error messages for UDP tunnels. If the hook is set, then the tunnel driver will be able to see ICMP packets. The hook provides the offset into the packet of the UDP header of the original packet that caused the notification. An alternative would be to call the ->error_handler() hook - but that requires that the skbuff be cloned (as ip_icmp_error() or ipv6_cmp_error() do, though isn't really necessary or desirable in rxrpc's case is we want to parse them there and then, not queue them). Changes ======= ver #3) - Fixed an uninitialised variable. ver #2) - Fixed some missing CONFIG_AF_RXRPC_IPV6 conditionals. 2020-09-28udp_tunnel: add the ability to share port tablesJakub Kicinski1-0/+24
Unfortunately recent Intel NIC designs share the UDP port table across netdevs. So far the UDP tunnel port state was maintained per netdev, we need to extend that to cater to Intel NICs. Expect NICs to allocate the info structure dynamically and link to the state from there. All the shared NICs will record port offload information in the one instance of the table so we need to make sure that the use count can accommodate larger numbers. 2020-08-03udp_tunnel: add the ability to hard-code IANA VXLANJakub Kicinski1-0/+5
mlx5 has the IANA VXLAN port (4789) hard coded by the device, instead of being added dynamically when tunnels are created. To support this add a workaround flag to struct udp_tunnel_nic_info. Skipping updates for the port is fairly trivial, dumping the hard coded port via ethtool requires some code duplication. The port is not a part of any real table, we dump it in a special table which has no tunnel types supported and only one entry. Add an interface to report offloaded UDP ports via ethtool netlink. Now that core takes care of tracking which UDP tunnel ports the NICs are aware of we can quite easily export this information out to user space. The responsibility of writing the netlink dumps is split between ethtool code and udp_tunnel_nic.c - since udp_tunnel module may not always be loaded, yet we should always report the capabilities of the NIC. $ ethtool --show-tunnels eth0 Tunnel information for eth0: UDP port table 0: Size: 4 Types: vxlan No entries UDP port table 1: Size: 4 Types: geneve, vxlan-gpe Entries (1): port 1230, vxlan-gpe v4: - back to v2, build fix is now directly in udp_tunnel.h v3: - don't compile ETHTOOL_MSG_TUNNEL_INFO_GET in if CONFIG_INET not set. v2: - fix string set count, - reorder enums in the uAPI, - fix type of ETHTOOL_A_TUNNEL_UDP_TABLE_TYPES to bitset in docs and comments. 2020-07-10udp_tunnel: add central NIC RX port offload infrastructureJakub Kicinski1-0/+137
Cater to devices which: (a) may want to sleep in the callbacks; (b) only have IPv4 support; (c) need all the programming to happen while the netdev is up. Drivers attach UDP tunnel offload info struct to their netdevs, where they declare how many UDP ports of various tunnel types they support. Core takes care of tracking which ports to offload. Use a fixed-size array since this matches what almost all drivers do, and avoids a complexity and uncertainty around memory allocations in an atomic context. Make sure that tunnel drivers don't try to replay the ports when new NIC netdev is registered. Automatic replays would mess up reference counting, and will be removed completely once all drivers are converted. v4: - use a #define NULL to avoid build issues with CONFIG_INET=n. 2018-11-09udp: Handle ICMP errors for tunnels with same destination port on both endpointsStefano Brivio1-0/+3
For both IPv4 and IPv6, if we can't match errors to a socket, try tunnels before ignoring them. Look up a socket with the original source and destination ports as found in the UDP packet inside the ICMP payload, this will work for tunnels that force the same destination port for both endpoints, i.e. VXLAN and GENEVE. Actually, lwtunnels could break this assumption if they are configured by an external control plane to have different destination ports on the endpoints: in this case, we won't be able to trace ICMP messages back to them. For IPv6 redirect messages, call ip6_redirect() directly with the output interface argument set to the interface we received the packet from (as it's the very interface we should build the exception on), otherwise the new nexthop will be rejected. There's no such need for IPv4. Tunnels can now export an encap_err_lookup() operation that indicates a match. Pass the packet to the lookup function, and if the tunnel driver reports a matching association, continue with regular ICMP error handling. v2: - Added newline between network and transport header sets in __udp{4,6}_lib_err_encap() (David Miller) - Removed redundant skb_reset_network_header(skb); in __udp4_lib_err_encap() - Removed redundant reassignment of iph in __udp4_lib_err_encap() (Sabrina Dubroca) - Edited comment to __udp{4,6}_lib_err_encap() to reflect the fact this won't work with lwtunnels configured to use asymmetric ports. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2016-06-18vxlan: Add new UDP encapsulation offload type for VXLAN-GPEAlexander Duyck1-0/+1
The fact is VXLAN with Generic Protocol Extensions cannot be supported by the same hardware parsers that support VXLAN. In addition we add a new set of ndo functions named ndo_udp_tunnel_add and ndo_udp_tunnel_del that are meant to allow us to track the tunnel meta-data such as port and address family as tunnels are added and removed. The tunnel meta-data is now transported in a structure named udp_tunnel_info which for now carries the type, address family, and port number. In the future this could be updated so that we can include a tuple of values including things such as the destination IP address and other fields. I also ended up going with a naming scheme that consisted of using the prefix udp_tunnel on function names. I applied this to the notifier and ndo ops as well so that it hopefully points to the fact that these are primarily used in the udp_tunnel functions. 2016-06-18net: Combine GENEVE and VXLAN port notifiers into single functionsAlexander Duyck1-0/+33
This patch merges the GENEVE and VXLAN code so that both functions pass through a shared code path. This way we can start the effort of using a single function on the network device drivers to handle both of these tunnel types. 2016-06-18vxlan/geneve: Include udp_tunnel.h in vxlan/geneve.h and fixup includesAlexander Duyck1-0/+2
This patch makes it so that we add udp_tunnel.h to vxlan.h and geneve.h header files. This is useful as I plan to move the generic handlers for the port offloads into the udp_tunnel header file and leave the vxlan and geneve headers to be a bit more protocol specific. I also went through and cleaned out a number of redundant includes that where in the .h and .c files for these drivers. 2016-04-17ip_tunnel_core: iptunnel_handle_offloads returns int and doesn't free skbAlexander Duyck1-2/+1
This patch updates the IP tunnel core function iptunnel_handle_offloads so that we return an int and do not free the skb inside the function. This actually allows us to clean up several paths in several tunnels so that we can free the skb at one point in the path without having to have a secondary path if we are supporting tunnel offloads. In addition it should resolve some double-free issues I have found in the tunnels paths as I believe it is possible for us to end up triggering such an event in the case of fou or gue. 2016-03-11ip_tunnel: add support for setting flow label via collect metadataDaniel Borkmann1-2/+2
This patch extends udp_tunnel6_xmit_skb() to pass in the IPv6 flow label from call sites. Currently, there's no such option and it's always set to zero when writing ip6_flow_hdr(). Add a label member to ip_tunnel_key, so that flow-based tunnels via collect metadata frontends can make use of it. vxlan and geneve will be converted to add flow label support separately. 2015-08-29vxlan: do not receive IPv4 packets on IPv6 socketJiri Benc1-1/+2
By default (subject to the sysctl settings), IPv6 sockets listen also for IPv4 traffic. Vxlan is not prepared for that and expects IPv6 header in packets received through an IPv6 socket. In addition, it's currently not possible to have both IPv4 and IPv6 vxlan tunnel on the same port (unless bindv6only sysctl is enabled), as it's not possible to create and bind both IPv4 and IPv6 vxlan interfaces and there's no way to specify both IPv4 and IPv6 remote/group IP addresses. Set IPV6_V6ONLY on vxlan sockets to fix both of these issues. This is not done globally in udp_tunnel, as l2tp and tipc seems to work okay when receiving IPv4 packets on IPv6 socket and people may rely on this behavior. The other tunnels (geneve and fou) do not support IPv6. Signed-off-by: Jiri Benc <jbenc@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2015-01-25udp: Do not require sock in udp_tunnel_xmit_skbTom Herbert1-8/+8
The UDP tunnel transmit functions udp_tunnel_xmit_skb and udp_tunnel6_xmit_skb include a socket argument. The socket being passed to the functions (from VXLAN) is a UDP created for receive side. The only thing that the socket is used for in the transmit functions is to get the setting for checksum (enabled or zero). This patch removes the argument and and adds a nocheck argument for checksum setting. This eliminates the unnecessary dependency on a UDP socket for UDP tunnel transmit. 2014-11-10udptunnel: Add SKB_GSO_UDP_TUNNEL during gro_complete.Jesse Gross1-0/+9
When doing GRO processing for UDP tunnels, we never add SKB_GSO_UDP_TUNNEL to gso_type - only the type of the inner protocol is added (such as SKB_GSO_TCPV4). The result is that if the packet is later resegmented we will do GSO but not treat it as a tunnel. This results in UDP fragmentation of the outer header instead of (i.e.) TCP segmentation of the inner header as was originally on the wire. 2014-09-19udp-tunnel: Add a few more UDP tunnel APIsAndy Zhou1-0/+57
Added a few more UDP tunnel APIs that can be shared by UDP based tunnel protocol implementation. The main ones are highlighted below. setup_udp_tunnel_sock() configures UDP listener socket for receiving UDP encapsulated packets. udp_tunnel_xmit_skb() and upd_tunnel6_xmit_skb() transmit skb using UDP encapsulation. udp_tunnel_sock_release() closes the UDP tunnel listener socket.
