2022-05-04xfs: fix potential log item leakDave Chinner1-0/+1
Ever since we added shadown format buffers to the log items, log items need to handle the item being released with shadow buffers attached. Due to the fact this requirement was added at the same time we added new rmap/reflink intents, we missed the cleanup of those items. In theory, this means shadow buffers can be leaked in a very small window when a shutdown is initiated. Testing with KASAN shows this leak does not happen in practice - we haven't identified a single leak in several years of shutdown testing since ~v4.8 kernels. However, the intent whiteout cleanup mechanism results in every cancelled intent in exactly the same state as this tiny race window creates and so if intents down clean up shadow buffers on final release we will leak the shadow buffer for just about every intent we create. Hence we start with this patch to close this condition off and ensure that when whiteouts start to be used we don't leak lots of memory. There are many, many xfs header files which are included but unneeded (or included twice) in the xfs code, so remove them. nb: xfs_linux.h includes about 9 headers for everyone, so those explicit includes get removed by this. 2019-06-29xfs: split iop_unlockChristoph Hellwig1-7/+3
The iop_unlock method is called when comitting or cancelling a transaction. In the latter case, the transaction may or may not be aborted. While there is no known problem with the current code in practice, this implementation is limited in that any log item implementation that might want to differentiate between a commit and a cancellation must rely on the aborted state. The aborted bit is only set when the cancelled transaction is dirty, however. This means that there is no way to distinguish between a commit and a clean transaction cancellation. For example, intent log items currently rely on this distinction. The log item is either transferred to the CIL on commit or released on transaction cancel. There is currently no possibility for a clean intent log item in a transaction, but if that state is ever introduced a cancel of such a transaction will immediately result in memory leaks of the associated log item(s). This is an interface deficiency and landmine. To clean this up, replace the iop_unlock method with an iop_release method that is specific to transaction cancel. The existing iop_committing method occurs at the same time as iop_unlock in the commit path and there is no need for two separate callbacks here. Overload the iop_committing method with the current commit time iop_unlock implementations to eliminate the need for the latter and further simplify the interface. 2018-06-07xfs: convert to SPDX license tagsDave Chinner1-13/+1
Remove the verbose license text from XFS files and replace them with SPDX tags. This does not change the license of any of the code, merely refers to the common, up-to-date license files in LICENSES/ This change was mostly scripted. fs/xfs/Makefile and fs/xfs/libxfs/xfs_fs.h were modified by hand, the rest were detected and modified by the following command: for f in `git grep -l "GNU General" fs/xfs/` ; do echo $f cat $f | awk -f hdr.awk > $f.new mv -f $f.new $f done And the hdr.awk script that did the modification (including detecting the difference between GPL-2.0 and GPL-2.0+ licenses) is as follows: $ cat hdr.awk BEGIN { hdr = 1.0 tag = "GPL-2.0" str = "" } /^ \* This program is free software/ { hdr = 2.0; next } /any later version./ { tag = "GPL-2.0+" next } /^ \*\// { if (hdr > 0.0) { print "// SPDX-License-Identifier: " tag print str print $0 str="" hdr = 0.0 next } print $0 next } /^ \* / { if (hdr > 1.0) next if (hdr > 0.0) { if (str != "") str = str "\n" str = str $0 next } print $0 next } /^ \*/ { if (hdr > 0.0) next print $0 next } // { if (hdr > 0.0) { if (str != "") str = str "\n" str = str $0 next } print $0 } END { } $ Signed-off-by: Dave Chinner <dchinner@redhat.com> Reviewed-by: Darrick J. 2018-05-10xfs: get rid of the log item descriptorDave Chinner1-1/+1
It's just a connector between a transaction and a log item. There's a 1:1 relationship between a log item descriptor and a log item, and a 1:1 relationship between a log item descriptor and a transaction. Both relationships are created and terminated at the same time, so why do we even have the descriptor? Replace it with a specific list_head in the log item and a new log item dirtied flag to replace the XFS_LID_DIRTY flag. 2018-05-10xfs: log item flags are racyDave Chinner1-1/+1
The log item flags contain a field that is protected by the AIL lock - the XFS_LI_IN_AIL flag. We use non-atomic RMW operations to set and clear these flags, but most of the updates and checks are not done with the AIL lock held and so are susceptible to update races. Fix this by changing the log item flags to use atomic bitops rather than be reliant on the AIL lock for update serialisation. 2013-12-13xfs: format log items write directly into the linear CIL bufferChristoph Hellwig1-2/+3
Instead of setting up pointers to memory locations in iop_format which then get copied into the CIL linear buffer after return move the copy into the individual inode items. This avoids the need to always have a memory block in the exact same layout that gets written into the log around, and allow the log items to be much more flexible in their in-memory layouts. The only caveat is that we need to properly align the data for each iovec so that don't have structures misaligned in subsequent iovecs. Note that all log item format routines now need to be careful to modify the copy of the item that was placed into the CIL after calls to xlog_copy_iovec instead of the in-memory copy. Add a helper to abstract out filling the log iovecs in the log item format handlers. This will allow us to change the way we do the log item formatting more easily. The copy in the name is a bit confusing for now as it just assigns a pointer and lets the CIL code perform the copy, but that will change soon. 2013-10-24xfs: decouple log and transaction headersDave Chinner1-2/+3
xfs_trans.h has a dependency on xfs_log.h for a couple of structures. Most code that does transactions doesn't need to know anything about the log, but this dependency means that they have to include xfs_log.h. Decouple the xfs_trans.h and xfs_log.h header files and clean up the includes to be in dependency order. In doing this, remove the direct include of xfs_trans_reserve.h from xfs_trans.h so that we remove the dependency between xfs_trans.h and xfs_mount.h. Hence the xfs_trans.h include can be moved to the indicate the actual dependencies other header files have on it. Note that these are kernel only header files, so this does not translate to any userspace changes at all. 2013-10-23xfs: create a shared header file for format-related informationDave Chinner1-1/+1
All of the buffer operations structures are needed to be exported for xfs_db, so move them all to a common location rather than spreading them all over the place. They are verifying the on-disk format, so while xfs_format.h might be a good place, it is not part of the on disk format. Hence we need to create a new header file that we centralise these related definitions. Start by moving the bffer operations structures, and then also move all the other definitions that have crept into xfs_log_format.h and xfs_format.h as there was no other shared header file to put them in. Many of the definitions within xfs_dir2_priv.h are needed in userspace outside libxfs. 2013-06-27xfs: Inode create log itemsDave Chinner1-0/+195
Introduce the inode create log item type for logical inode create logging. Instead of logging the changes in buffers, pass the range to be initialised through the log by a new transaction type. This reduces the amount of log space required to record initialisation during allocation from about 128 bytes per inode to a small fixed amount per inode extent to be initialised. This requires a new log item type to track it through the log and the AIL. This is a relatively simple item - most callbacks are noops as this item has the same life cycle as the transaction.
