2024-06-14sr: convert to the atomic queue limits APIChristoph Hellwig1-17/+25
Assign all queue limits through a local queue_limits variable and queue_limits_commit_update so that we can't race updating them from multiple places, and free the queue when updating them so that in-progress I/O submissions don't see half-updated limits. 2024-01-30scsi: sr: Have midlayer retry get_sectorsize() errorsMike Christie1-18/+20
This has get_sectorsize() have the SCSI midlayer retry errors instead of driving them itself. There is one behavior change where we no longer retry when scsi_execute_cmd() returns < 0, but we should be ok. We don't need to retry for failures like the queue being removed, and for the case where there are no tags/reqs the block layer waits/retries for us. For possible memory allocation failures from blk_rq_map_kern() we use GFP_NOIO, so retrying will probably not help. If scsi_execute_cmd returns < 0, it doesn't initialize the sshdr, so we shouldn't access the sshdr. If it returns 0, then the cmd executed successfully, so there is no need to check the sshdr. This has us access the sshdr when we get a return value > 0. The only overlap between the block open flags mapped into the fmode_t and other uses of fmode_t are FMODE_READ and FMODE_WRITE. Set the queue dying flag and call blk_mq_exit_queue from del_gendisk for all disks that do not have separately allocated queues, and thus remove the need to call blk_cleanup_queue for them. Rename blk_cleanup_disk to blk_mq_destroy_queue to make it clear that this function is intended only for separately allocated blk-mq queues. This saves an extra queue freeze for devices without a separately allocated queue. This changes the behaviour of these ioctls as the cdrom_ioctl handling of these is more restrictive than the scsi_ioctl version. Commit 01d0c698536f ("sr: implement ->free_disk to simplify refcounting") refactored sr_block_open(), initialized one variable with a duplicate assignment (probably an unintended copy & paste duplication) and turned one error case into an early return, which makes the initialization of the return variable needless. So, simplify the local variable initialization in sr_block_open() to make the code a bit more clear. No functional change. No change in resulting object code. 2022-03-02scsi: core: Remove the cmd field from struct scsi_requestChristoph Hellwig1-11/+13
Now that each scsi_request is backed by a scsi_cmnd, there is no need to indirect the CDB storage. Change all submitters of SCSI passthrough requests to store the CDB information directly in the scsi_cmnd, and while doing so allocate the full 32 bytes that cover all Linux supported SCSI hosts instead of requiring dynamic allocation for > 16 byte CDBs. On 64-bit systems this does not change the size of the scsi_cmnd at all, while on 32-bit systems it slightly increases it for now, but that increase will be made up by the removal of the remaining scsi_request fields. All modern drivers can support extra partitions using the extended dev_t. In fact except for the ioctl method drivers never even see partitions in normal operation. So remove the GENHD_FL_EXT_DEVT and allow extra partitions for all block devices that do support partitions, and require those that do not support partitions to explicit disallow them using GENHD_FL_NO_PART. GENHD_FL_CD marks a gendisk as a vaguely CD-ROM like device. Besides being used internally inside of sunvdc.c an xen-blkfront it is used by xen-blkback as a hint to claim a device exported to a guest is a CD-ROM like device. Just check for disk->cdi instead which is the right indicator for "real" CD-ROM or DVD drivers. This will miss the paravirtualized guest drivers, but those make little sense to report anyway. Add a new helper that calls blk_get_request and initializes the scsi_request to avoid the indirect call through ->.initialize_rq_fn. Note that this makes the pktcdvd driver depend on the SCSI core, but given that only SCSI devices support SCSI passthrough requests that is not a functional change.
