Function debugfs_remove() recursively removes a directory, include all
files created by debugfs_create_file(). Therefore, there is no need to
explicitly record each file with member ->bnad_dentry_files[] and
explicitly delete them at the end. Remove field bnad_dentry_files[] and
its related processing codes for simplification.

To have enough space to write all possible sprintf() args. Currently
'name' size is 16, but the first '%s' specifier may already need at
least 16 characters, since 'bnad->netdev->name' is used there.
For '%d' specifiers, assume that they require:
* 1 char for 'tx_id + tx_info->tcb[i]->id' sum, BNAD_MAX_TXQ_PER_TX is 8
* 2 chars for 'rx_id + rx_info->rx_ctrl[i].ccb->id', BNAD_MAX_RXP_PER_RX
is 16
And replace sprintf with snprintf.

Currently, we allocate a nbytes-sized kernel buffer and copy nbytes from
userspace to that buffer. Later, we use sscanf on this buffer but we don't
ensure that the string is terminated inside the buffer, this can lead to
OOB read when using sscanf. Fix this issue by using memdup_user_nul
instead of memdup_user.

clang-16 warns about a function pointer cast:
drivers/net/ethernet/brocade/bna/bnad.c:1995:4: error: cast from 'void (*)(struct delayed_work *)' to 'work_func_t' (aka 'void (*)(struct work_struct *)') converts to incompatible function type [-Werror,-Wcast-function-type-strict]

drivers/net/ethernet/brocade/bna/bnad.c:2252:4: error: cast from 'void (*)(void *)' to 'work_func_t' (aka 'void (*)(struct work_struct *)') converts to incompatible function type [-Werror,-Wcast-function-type-strict]
2252 | (work_func_t)(bnad_rx_cleanup));
The problem here is mixing up work_struct and delayed_work, which relies
the former being the first member of the latter.
Change the code to use consistent types here to address the warning and
make it more robust against workqueue interface changes.
Side note: the use of a delayed workqueue for cleaning up TX descriptors
is probably a bad idea since this introduces a noticeable delay. The
driver currently does not appear to use BQL, but if one wanted to add
that, this would have to be changed as well.

This patch converts some basic cases of ethtool_sprintf() to
ethtool_puts().
The conversions are used in cases where ethtool_sprintf() was being used
with just two arguments:
| ethtool_sprintf(&data, buffer[i].name);
or when it's used with format string: "%s"
| ethtool_sprintf(&data, "%s", buffer[i].name);
which both now become:
| ethtool_puts(&data, buffer[i].name);

`strncpy` is deprecated for use on NUL-terminated destination strings
[1] and as such we should prefer more robust and less ambiguous string
interfaces.
bfa_ioc_get_adapter_manufacturer() simply copies a string literal into
`manufacturer`.
Another implementation of bfa_ioc_get_adapter_manufacturer() from
drivers/scsi/bfa/bfa_ioc.c uses memset + strscpy:
| void
| bfa_ioc_get_adapter_manufacturer(struct bfa_ioc_s *ioc, char *manufacturer)
| {
| memset((void *)manufacturer, 0, BFA_ADAPTER_MFG_NAME_LEN);
| strscpy(manufacturer, BFA_MFG_NAME, BFA_ADAPTER_MFG_NAME_LEN);
| }
Let's use `strscpy_pad` to eliminate some redundant work while still
NUL-terminating and NUL-padding the destination buffer.

The Itanium architecture is obsolete, and an informal survey [0] reveals
that any residual use of Itanium hardware in production is mostly HP-UX
or OpenVMS based. The use of Linux on Itanium appears to be limited to
enthusiasts that occasionally boot a fresh Linux kernel to see whether
things are still working as intended, and perhaps to churn out some
distro packages that are rarely used in practice.
None of the original companies behind Itanium still produce or support
any hardware or software for the architecture, and it is listed as
'Orphaned' in the MAINTAINERS file, as apparently, none of the engineers
that contributed on behalf of those companies (nor anyone else, for that
matter) have been willing to support or maintain the architecture
upstream or even be responsible for applying the odd fix. The Intel
firmware team removed all IA-64 support from the Tianocore/EDK2
reference implementation of EFI in 2018. (Itanium is the original
architecture for which EFI was developed, and the way Linux supports it
deviates significantly from other architectures.) Some distros, such as
Debian and Gentoo, still maintain [unofficial] ia64 ports, but many have
dropped support years ago.
While the argument is being made [1] that there is a 'for the common
good' angle to being able to build and run existing projects such as the
Grid Community Toolkit [2] on Itanium for interoperability testing, the
fact remains that none of those projects are known to be deployed on
Linux/ia64, and very few people actually have access to such a system in
the first place. Even if there were ways imaginable in which Linux/ia64
could be put to good use today, what matters is whether anyone is
actually doing that, and this does not appear to be the case.
There are no emulators widely available, and so boot testing Itanium is
generally infeasible for ordinary contributors. GCC still supports IA-64
but its compile farm [3] no longer has any IA-64 machines. GLIBC would
like to get rid of IA-64 [4] too because it would permit some overdue
code cleanups. In summary, the benefits to the ecosystem of having IA-64
be part of it are mostly theoretical, whereas the maintenance overhead
of keeping it supported is real.
So let's rip off the band aid, and remove the IA-64 arch code entirely.
This follows the timeline proposed by the Debian/ia64 maintainer [5],
which removes support in a controlled manner, leaving IA-64 in a known
good state in the most recent LTS release. Other projects will follow
once the kernel support is removed.

When built with Control Flow Integrity, function prototypes between
caller and function declaration must match. These mismatches are visible
at compile time with the new -Wcast-function-type-strict in Clang[1].
Fix a total of 227 warnings like these:
drivers/net/ethernet/brocade/bna/bna_enet.c:519:3: warning: cast from 'void (*)(struct bna_ethport *, enum bna_ethport_event)' to 'bfa_fsm_t' (aka 'void (*)(void *, int)') converts to incompatible function type [-Wcast-function-type-strict]
bfa_fsm_set_state(ethport, bna_ethport_sm_down);
^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The bna state machine code heavily overloads its state machine functions,
so these have been separated into their own sets of structs, enums,
typedefs, and helper functions. There are almost zero binary code changes,
all seem to be related to header file line numbers changing, or the
addition of the new stats helper.
Important to mention is that while I was manually implementing this changes
I was staring at this[2] patch from Kees Cook. Thanks, Kees. :)

So, if it fails, the 32 bits case will also fail for the same reason.
So, if dma_set_mask_and_coherent() succeeds, 'using_dac' is known to be
'true'. This variable can be removed.

The register reads should be OK, because the current
implementation of readl and friends will always execute even
without an lvalue.
When it makes sense, just remove the lvalue assignment and the
local. Other times, just remove the offending code, and
occasionally, just mark the variable as maybe unused since it
could be used in an ifdef or debug scenario.
Only compile tested with W=1.

Since commit 84af7a6194e4 ("checkpatch: kconfig: prefer 'help' over
'---help---'"), the number of '---help---' has been gradually
decreasing, but there are still more than 2400 instances.
This commit finishes the conversion. While I touched the lines,
I also fixed the indentation.
There are a variety of indentation styles found.
a) 4 spaces + '---help---'
b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation)
f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'
In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:
$ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

The current codebase makes use of the zero-length array language
extension to the C90 standard, but the preferred mechanism to declare
variable-length types such as these ones is a flexible array member[1][2],
introduced in C99:
struct foo {
int stuff;
struct boo array[];
};
By making use of the mechanism above, we will get a compiler warning
in case the flexible array does not occur last in the structure, which
will help us prevent some kind of undefined behavior bugs from being
inadvertently introduced[3] to the codebase from now on.
Also, notice that, dynamic memory allocations won't be affected by
this change:
"Flexible array members have incomplete type, and so the sizeof operator
may not be applied. As a quirk of the original implementation of
zero-length arrays, sizeof evaluates to zero."[1]
This issue was found with the help of Coccinelle.
