2025-04-25media: ti: cal: Add streams supportTomi Valkeinen4-104/+337
Add multiplexed streams support. CAL has 8 DMA-engines and can capture 8 separate streams at the same time. The driver filters the streams based on CSI-2 virtual channel number and datatype. CAL may have (depending on the SoC) two CSI-2 RX blocks, which share the 8 DMA-engines, so the number of capturable streams does not change even if there are two CSI-2 RX blocks. Add 8 video device nodes, each representing a single DMA-engine, and set the number of source pads on CSI-2 RX blocks to 8. Each video node can be connected to any of the source pads on either of the CSI-2 RX instances using media links. CSI-2 RX block's subdevice internal routing is used to route the incoming CSI-2 streams to one of the 8 source pads. Only video data streams are supported at the moment. 2024-10-28media: platform: drop vb2_ops_wait_prepare/finishHans Verkuil1-2/+0
Since commit 88785982a19d ("media: vb2: use lock if wait_prepare/finish are NULL") it is no longer needed to set the wait_prepare/finish vb2_ops callbacks as long as the lock field in vb2_queue is set. Since the vb2_ops_wait_prepare/finish callbacks already rely on that field, we can safely drop these callbacks. This simplifies the code and this is a step towards the goal of deleting these callbacks. 2024-10-12media: Switch back to struct platform_driver::remove()Uwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
After commit 0edb555a65d1 ("platform: Make platform_driver::remove() return void") .remove() is (again) the right callback to implement for platform drivers. Convert all platform drivers below drivers/media to use .remove(), with the eventual goal to drop struct platform_driver::remove_new(). As .remove() and .remove_new() have the same prototypes, conversion is done by just changing the structure member name in the driver initializer. There is a confusing pattern in the kernel to use a variable named 'timeout' to store the result of wait_event_timeout() causing patterns like: timeout = wait_event_timeout(...) if (!timeout) return -ETIMEDOUT; with all kinds of permutations. 2023-12-04media: v4l2-subdev: Rename .init_cfg() operation to .init_state()Laurent Pinchart1-3/+7
The subdev .init_cfg() operation is affected by two issues: - It has long been extended to initialize a whole v4l2_subdev_state instead of just a v4l2_subdev_pad_config, but its name has stuck around. - Despite operating on a whole subdev state and not being directly exposed to the subdev users (either in-kernel or through the userspace API), .init_cfg() is categorized as a subdev pad operation. This participates in making the subdev API confusing for new developers. Fix it by renaming the operation to .init_state(), and make it a subdev internal operation. 2023-08-10media: v4l: async: Set v4l2_device and subdev in async notifier initSakari Ailus1-2/+2
Set the v4l2_device already in async notifier init, so struct device related to it will be available before the notifier is registered. This requires separating notifier initialisation into two functions, one that takes v4l2_device as its argument, v4l2_async_nf_init and v4l2_async_subdev_nf_init, for sub-device notifiers. Registering the notifier will use a single function, v4l2_async_nf_register. This is done in order to make struct device available earlier, during construction of the async connections, for sensible debug prints. 2023-07-28media: v4l: async: Rename v4l2_async_subdev as v4l2_async_connectionSakari Ailus1-3/+3
Rename v4l2_async_subdev as v4l2_async_connection, in order to differentiate between the sub-devices and their connections: one sub-device can have many connections but the V4L2 async framework has so far allowed just a single one. Connections in this context will later translate into either MC ancillary or data links. This patch prepares changing that relation by changing existing users of v4l2_async_subdev to switch to v4l2_async_connection. Async sub-devices themselves will not be needed anymore Additionally, __v4l2_async_nf_add_subdev() has been renamed __v4l2_async_nf_add_connection(). 2023-07-25media: ti: cal: Implement get_frame_desc for camera-rxTomi Valkeinen3-47/+47
CAL uses get_frame_desc to get the VC and DT for the incoming CSI-2 stream, but does it in a bit hacky way. Clean this up by implementing .get_frame_desc to camera-rx, and calling that from cal.c. No functional change intended. Change TI CAL driver to use subdev state. No functional changes (intended). This allows us to get rid of the 'formats' field, as the formats are kept in the state, and also the 'mutex' as we already have state locking. Clean up the CAL drivers uses of mbus formats: - Switch all YUV formats from 2X8 formats to 1X16, as those are what should be used for CSI-2 bus. - Drop 24 and 32 bit formats, as the driver doesn't support them (see cal_ctx_pix_proc_config()). - Switch RGB565_2X8_LE to RGB565_1X16 (for the same reason as for the YUV formats) and drop RGB565_2X8_BE as it cannot be supported with CSI-2. The DT of_device.h and of_platform.h date back to the separate of_platform_bus_type before it as merged into the regular platform bus. As part of that merge prepping Arm DT support 13 years ago, they "temporarily" include each other. They also include platform_device.h and of.h. As a result, there's a pretty much random mix of those include files used throughout the tree. In order to detangle these headers and replace the implicit includes with struct declarations, users need to explicitly include the correct includes. 2023-04-12media: Prefer designated initializers over memset for subdev pad opsLaurent Pinchart1-4/+4
Structures passed to subdev pad operations are all zero-initialized, but not always with the same kind of code constructs. While most drivers used designated initializers, which zero all the fields that are not specified, when declaring variables, some use memset(). Those two methods lead to the same end result, and, depending on compiler optimizations, may even be completely equivalent, but they're not consistent. Improve coding style consistency by using designated initializers instead of calling memset(). Where applicable, also move the variables to inner scopes of for loops to ensure correct initialization in all iterations. 2023-04-12media: Zero-initialize all structures passed to subdev pad operationsLaurent Pinchart1-13/+16
Several drivers call subdev pad operations, passing structures that are not fully zeroed. While the drivers initialize the fields they care about explicitly, this results in reserved fields having uninitialized values. Future kernel API changes that make use of those fields thus risk breaking proper driver operation in ways that could be hard to detect. To avoid this, make the code more robust by zero-initializing all the structures passed to subdev pad operation. Maintain a consistent coding style by preferring designated initializers (which zero-initialize all the fields that are not specified) over memset() where possible, and make variable declarations local to inner scopes where applicable. One notable exception to this rule is in the ipu3 driver, where a memset() is needed as the structure is not a local variable but a function parameter provided by the caller. Not all fields of those structures can be initialized when declaring the variables, as the values for those fields are computed later in the code. Initialize the 'which' field in all cases, and other fields when the variable declaration is so close to the v4l2_subdev_call() call that it keeps all the context easily visible when reading the code, to avoid hindering readability. 2023-04-11media: cal: Convert to platform remove callback returning voidUwe Kleine-König1-4/+2
The .remove() callback for a platform driver returns an int which makes many driver authors wrongly assume it's possible to do error handling by returning an error code. However the value returned is (mostly) ignored and this typically results in resource leaks. To improve here there is a quest to make the remove callback return void. In the first step of this quest all drivers are converted to .remove_new() which already returns void. Trivially convert this driver from always returning zero in the remove callback to the void returning variant. 2022-08-30media: ti: cal: fix wdma irq for metadataTomi Valkeinen1-4/+27
CAL HW interrupts are inherently racy. If we get both start and end interrupts, we don't know what has happened: did the DMA for a single frame start and end, or did one frame end and a new frame start? Usually for normal pixel frames we get the interrupts separately. If we do get both, we have to guess. The assumption in the code is that the active vertical area is larger than the blanking vertical area, and thus it is more likely that we get the end of the old frame and the start of a new frame. However, for embedded data, which is only a few lines high, we always get both interrupts. Here the assumption is that we get both for the same frame. 2022-08-30media: ti: cal: use CSI-2 frame number for seq numberTomi Valkeinen3-3/+62
The userspace needs a way to match received metadata buffers to pixel data buffers. The obvious way to do this is to use the CSI-2 frame number, as both the metadata and the pixel data have the same frame number as they come from the same frame. However, we don't have means to convey the frame number to userspace. We do have the 'sequence' field, which with a few tricks can be used for this purpose. To achieve this, track the frame number for each virtual channel and increase the sequence for each virtual channel by frame-number - previous-frame-number, also taking into account the eventual wrap of the CSI-2 frame number. If the CSI-2 peripheral does not support frame numbers, CAL increases the frame number register by one each frame. This way we get a monotonically increasing sequence number which is common to all streams using the same virtual channel. Use get_frame_desc() to get the frame desc from the connected source, and use the provided virtual channel and datatype instead of hardcoded ones. get_frame_desc() can contain multiple streams, but as we don't support multiple streams yet, we will just always use the first stream. If the source doesn't support get_frame_desc(), fall back to the previous method of always capturing virtual channel 0 and any datatype. The ti-vpe/ sub-directory does not only contain the VPE-specific things. It also contains the CAL driver, which is a completely different subsystem. This is also not a good place to add new drivers for other TI platforms since they will all get mixed up. Separate the VPE and CAL parts into different sub-directories and rename the ti-vpe/ sub-directory to ti/. This is now the place where new TI platform drivers can be added.
