2026-02-24MdeModulePkg: Replace include guards with #pragma onceMichael Kubacki3-12/+3
Replace traditional `#ifndef`/`#define`/`#endif` include guards with `#pragma` once. `#pragma once` is a widely supported preprocessor directive that prevents header files from being included multiple times. It is supported by all toolchains used to build edk2: GCC, Clang/LLVM, and MSVC. Compared to macro-based include guards, `#pragma once`: - Eliminates the risk of macro name collisions or copy/paste errors where two headers inadvertently use the same guard macro. - Eliminate inconsistency in the way include guard macros are named (e.g., some files use `__FILE_H__`, others use `FILE_H_`, etc.). - Reduces boilerplate (three lines replaced by one). - Avoids polluting the macro namespace with guard symbols. - Can improve build times as the preprocessor can skip re-opening the file entirely, rather than re-reading it to find the matching `#endif` ("multiple-include optimization"). - Note that some compilers may already optimize traditional include guards, by recognzining the idiomatic pattern. This change is made acknowledging that overall portability of the code will technically be reduced, as `#pragma once` is not part of the C/C++ standards. However, this is considered acceptable given: 1. edk2 already defines a subset of supported compilers in BaseTools/Conf/tools_def.template, all of which have supported `#pragma once` for over two decades. 2. There have been concerns raised to the project about inconsistent include guard naming and potential macro collisions. Approximate compiler support dates: - MSVC: Supported since Visual C++ 4.2 (1996) - GCC: Supported since 3.4 (2004) (http://gnu.ist.utl.pt/software/gcc/gcc-3.4/changes.html) - Clang (LLVM based): Since initial release in 2007 Signed-off-by: Michael Kubacki <michael.kubacki@microsoft.com>
2026-02-02MdeModulePkg: BdsDxe: Introduce infinite boot retriesSherry Fan2-9/+17
This PR introduces a new feature to enable infinite boot retries based on a newly created PCD. When true, the system will continuously loop over all boot options. PCD default is FALSE to match existing functionality. This change is tested on QEMU based virtual platforms and physical platforms. This change is useful for certain server cases. Infinite retries allows a server to continuously attempt boot in case of network failure and recovery, and for such attempts to be accurately recorded in the TCG logs. 2025-12-19MdeModulePkg: Fix regressions from 11687, 11689.aaronpop1-12/+19
11687 introduced a null check and break on the orderedlist carriage return input handler. The carriage return is a special case that should result in exiting the menu, but the null check that prevented null pointer access changed the logic to continue in the input wait loop. Removed the break while still preventing null variable access and allow function to exit. 11689 introduced checks on the call to EfiBootManagerGetLoadOptions, but this encounterd a problem with the way that a default platform recovery option was created. The default platform recovery option was attempting to go through existing recovery options to get the next available recovery option number. The introduced null check short circuited these additional calls and resulted in the platform recovery option not being created. Modified the logic to no longer attempt to access recovery options when non exist, and still create the default platform recovery option. Signed-off-by: Aaron Pop <aaronpop@microsoft.com>

2019-10-30MdeModulePkg/BdsDxe: Fix PlatformRecovery issueSunny Wang1-2/+2
For now, PlatformRecovery doesn't work if OsIndications variable doesn't exist, which is wrong. According to the UEFI specification section 3.4.1 and 3.4.2, if processing of BootOrder does not result in success, the OsRecovery and PlatformRecovery options should still be processed regardless of the existence of the OsIndications variable. Therefore, update the code to check PcdPlatformRecoverySupport instead of the value of OsIndications variable (PlatformRecovery) to fix this issue. Ref: https://bugzilla.tianocore.org/show_bug.cgi?id=2266 Commit 2de1f611be06ded3a59726a4052a9039be7d459b introduced a regression whereas platforms that did set PcdPlatformBootTimeOut to 0 are now getting an unexpected call to PlatformBootManagerWaitCallback(). This patch also ensures that, if PcdPlatformBootTimeOut is 0xFFFF we don't call PlatformBootManagerWaitCallback() with a zero argument as doing so would produce an unwarranted jump to full progress completion which is likely to throw off users. REF: https://bugzilla.tianocore.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1678 Use the PcdPlatformRecoverySupport to control the function of platform recovery in BDS. First, set the variable's ("OsIndicationsSupported") EFI_OS_INDICATIONS_START_PLATFORM_RECOVERY bit base on the pcd. It would affect the variable "OsIndications". While the platform does not support the platform recovery, it is inappropriate to set a PlatformRecovery#### variable. So skip setting the variable. But it should remain the behavior of booting from a default file path (such as \EFI\BOOT\BOOTX64.EFI) to be compatible with the previous version UEFI spec. Add memory check before build platform default boot option. If fail to allocate memory for the defualt boot file path, put the system into dead loop to indicate it is unable to boot. 2016-07-05MdeModulePkg: Skip registering BootManagerMenu if absentSunny Wang1-15/+31
This is a enhancement to support the case when platform firmware doesn't support Boot Manager Menu. For now, if BootManagerMenu FFS can not be retrieved from FV, BDS core code will still register a boot option for it. Then, this non-functional boot option will still be booted by user's request (like HotKey or Exit from shell) to cause additional boot time and error status code reported. Therefore, it would be good to skip BootManagerMenu boot option registration and then return error status and Invalid BootOption data for this case so that the BootManagerBoot() or other consumers can directly return without doing anything. 2016-06-23MdeModulePkg/Bds: Do not boot to UI again when BootNext points to UIRuiyu Ni1-2/+3
Per UEFI spec the successful returning of boot option triggers boot to UI. But when the BootNext just points to UI, it causes confusing. So the patch avoids booting to UI again when the BootNext points to UI. Add gPerformanceProtocolGuid in BdsDxe.inf explicitly. Currently, BdsDxe could build pass as it inherits gPerformanceProtocolGuid from UefiBootManagerLib.inf. Also update the usage of gPerformanceProtocolGuid in UefiBootManagerLib.inf.
