2026-07-30CryptoPkg: Match OpenSSL's default security levelJean-Tiare Le Bigot1-5/+0
`TlsNew()` explicitly sets the default security level to 3. The current default in OpenSSL is security level 2 which is inherited by Linux distributions like Ubuntu 26.04. This is also the security level that was announced in https://edk2.groups.io/g/devel/topic/115039926. Signed-off-by: Jean-Tiare Le Bigot <jt@yadutaf.fr>
2026-06-24CryptoPkg: TlsLib: Fix uninitialized variable warningsTuan Phan1-31/+31
In TlsSetCipherList(), the OpensslCipher variable is initialized inside an inner loop but accessed outside of that loop, which can lead to uninitialized variable warnings. Fix this issue by moving all accesses to OpensslCipher into the inner loop where it is initialized. Signed-off-by: Tuan Phan <tuan.phan@oss.qualcomm.com>
2026-06-15CryptoPkg: Log TLS handshake certificate verification error reasonJean-Tiare Le Bigot1-0/+16
When the TLS error is `SSL_R_CERTIFICATE_VERIFY_FAILED`, the verification failure reason is reported by `SSL_get_verify_result`. Adding this reason to the debug logs is valuable to pin-point certificate rejection that are specific to EDK II. Signed-off-by: Jean-Tiare Le Bigot <jt@yadutaf.fr>
2026-02-24CryptoPkg: Replace include guards with #pragma onceMichael Kubacki1-4/+1
Replace traditional `#ifndef`/`#define`/`#endif` include guards with `#pragma` once. `#pragma once` is a widely supported preprocessor directive that prevents header files from being included multiple times. It is supported by all toolchains used to build edk2: GCC, Clang/LLVM, and MSVC. Does not include updates to OpenSSL generated header files checked into the repo. Those in `CryptoPkg\Library\OpensslLib\OpensslGen\`. Compared to macro-based include guards, `#pragma once`: - Eliminates the risk of macro name collisions or copy/paste errors where two headers inadvertently use the same guard macro. - Eliminate inconsistency in the way include guard macros are named (e.g., some files use `__FILE_H__`, others use `FILE_H_`, etc.). - Reduces boilerplate (three lines replaced by one). - Avoids polluting the macro namespace with guard symbols. - Can improve build times as the preprocessor can skip re-opening the file entirely, rather than re-reading it to find the matching `#endif` ("multiple-include optimization"). - Note that some compilers may already optimize traditional include guards, by recognzining the idiomatic pattern. This change is made acknowledging that overall portability of the code will technically be reduced, as `#pragma once` is not part of the C/C++ standards. However, this is considered acceptable given: 1. edk2 already defines a subset of supported compilers in BaseTools/Conf/tools_def.template, all of which have supported `#pragma once` for over two decades. 2. There have been concerns raised to the project about inconsistent include guard naming and potential macro collisions. Approximate compiler support dates: - MSVC: Supported since Visual C++ 4.2 (1996) - GCC: Supported since 3.4 (2004) (http://gnu.ist.utl.pt/software/gcc/gcc-3.4/changes.html) - Clang (LLVM based): Since initial release in 2007 Signed-off-by: Michael Kubacki <michael.kubacki@microsoft.com>

2024-06-26CryptoPkg: Add SNI extension to TLS ClientHelloSebastian Witt1-0/+18
Webservers hosting multiple websites require the TLS SNI (Server Name Indication) in the ClientHello to know which certificate to return. The current TLS code does not include the server name in the ClientHello handshake, which leads to failed HTTPS boots when the server does not return the correct certificate. This sets the host name for SNI in TlsSetVerifyHost which receives the host name also for verification against the certificates. Signed-off-by: Sebastian Witt <sebastian.witt@siemens.com>
2023-10-08CryptoPkg/TlsLib: fix tls cipher configurationGerd Hoffmann1-128/+36
Trying to configure the TLS ciphers can lead to TLS handshake failures because TlsCipherMappingTable is not in line with the ciphers actually supported by OpensslLib. Fix that by removing TlsCipherMappingTable altogether. Use SSL_get_ciphers() instead to get the stack of ciphers supported by openssl. Name and ID of the ciphers can be queried using the SSL_CIPHER_get_name() and SSL_CIPHER_get_protocol_id() functions, which allows us to map IDs to names without a hard-code table. 2019-11-02CryptoPkg/TlsLib: TlsSetVerifyHost: parse IP address literals as such ↵Laszlo Ersek1-4/+24
(CVE-2019-14553) Using the inet_pton() function that we imported in the previous patches, recognize if "HostName" is an IP address literal, and then parse it into binary representation. Passing the latter to OpenSSL for server certificate validation is important, per RFC-2818 <https://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2818#section-3.1>: > In some cases, the URI is specified as an IP address rather than a > hostname. In this case, the iPAddress subjectAltName must be present in > the certificate and must exactly match the IP in the URI. Note: we cannot use X509_VERIFY_PARAM_set1_ip_asc() because in the OpenSSL version that is currently consumed by edk2, said function depends on sscanf() for parsing IPv4 literals. In "CryptoPkg/Library/BaseCryptLib/SysCall/CrtWrapper.c", we only provide an empty -- always failing -- stub for sscanf(), however. 2018-04-13CryptoPkg/TlsLib: rewrite TlsSetCipherList()Laszlo Ersek3-23/+151
Rewrite the TlsSetCipherList() function in order to fix the following issues: - Any cipher identifier in CipherId that is not recognized by TlsGetCipherMapping() will cause the function to return EFI_UNSUPPORTED. This is a problem because CipherId is an ordered preference list, and a caller should not get EFI_UNSUPPORTED just because it has an elaborate CipherId preference list. Instead, we can filter out cipher identifiers that we don't recognize, as long as we keep the relative order intact. - CipherString is allocated on the stack, with 500 bytes. While processing a large CipherId preference list, this room may not be enough. Although no buffer overflow is possible, CipherString exhaustion can lead to a failed TLS connection, because any cipher names that don't fit on CipherString cannot be negotiated. Compute CipherStringSize first, and allocate CipherString dynamically. - Finally, the "@STRENGTH" pseudo cipher name is appended to CipherString. (Assuming there is enough room left in CipherString.) This causes OpenSSL to sort the cipher list "in order of encryption algorithm key length". This is a bad idea. The caller specifically passes an ordered preference list in CipherId. Therefore TlsSetCipherList() must not ask OpenSSL to reorder the list, for any reason. Drop "@STRENGTH". While at it, fix and unify the documentation of the CipherId parameter.
