2025-05-30ArmPlatformPkg: PL011SerialPort Empty Rx buffer during init.Chris Fernald1-9/+21
When calling to initialize the PL011 Uart, Rx buffer is not cleared. In a 16550 uart device, during initialization, the 16550's Fifo control registers would be used to clear the Rx buffer, but no such register exists on PL011. Modify the PL011 SerialPortInitialize function to clear anything that was in the Rx buffer after initialization is completed. This will prevent any stale data from being interpreted as valid data. Use an untyped PCD reference for PcdSerialRegisterBase, so that the library gets built without hardcoded values, permitting modules to override the default serial port. This allows SerialDxe to use a different serial port from the one used for DEBUG output (which often gets occluded due to the console driver clearing the screen). The PL011 code in ArmPlatformPkg is organized in a weird way: there is a single PL011Uart.h header file under Include/Drivers containing both register definitions and function entry points. The PL011Uart library itself is in Drivers/ but it is actually a library. So let's clean this up: add a new PL011UartLib library class and associated header file containing only the library prototypes, and move the library itself under Library/ using a new GUID, with the register definitions moved into a local header file. 2016-06-15ArmPlatformPkg: Add support to configure PL011 UART clockEvan Lloyd2-14/+17
On some platforms the UART clock is not the same for all the serial ports. The PL011 driver must be capable of handling serial ports with different clock rates, so must not rely on a PCD for the clock rate. This patch allows the UART clock rate to be passed as a parameter to PL011UartInitializePort(), which is called from the serial port library. This patch also contains the corresponding changes in the serial port library. The PCD in Drivers/PL011Uart is replaced by an extra parameter for PL011UartInitializePort. The PCD is moved to Library/PL011SerialPortLib to supply the value to pass. A corresponding patch to ArmVirtPkg is included in the same bundle to align that with these changes.
