2022-04-08parisc: Fix handling off probe non-access faultsJohn David Anglin1-0/+1
[ Upstream commit e00b0a2ab8ec019c344e53bfc76e31c18bb587b7 ] Currently, the parisc kernel does not fully support non-access TLB fault handling for probe instructions. In the fast path, we set the target register to zero if it is not a shadowed register. The slow path is not implemented, so we call do_page_fault. The architecture indicates that non-access faults should not cause a page fault from disk. This change adds to code to provide non-access fault support for probe instructions. It also modifies the handling of faults on userspace so that if the address lies in a valid VMA and the access type matches that for the VMA, the probe target register is set to one. Otherwise, the target register is set to zero. This was done to make probe instructions more useful for userspace. Probe instructions are not very useful if they set the target register to zero whenever a page is not present in memory. Nominally, the purpose of the probe instruction is determine whether read or write access to a given address is allowed. This fixes a problem in function pointer comparison noticed in the glibc testsuite (stdio-common/tst-vfprintf-user-type). The same problem is likely in glibc (_dl_lookup_address). V2 adds flush and lpa instruction support to handle_nadtlb_fault. 2022-02-23parisc: Show error if wrong 32/64-bit compiler is being usedHelge Deller1-0/+8
commit b160628e9ebcdc85d0db9d7f423c26b3c7c179d0 upstream. It happens quite often that people use the wrong compiler to build the kernel: make ARCH=parisc -> builds the 32-bit kernel make ARCH=parisc64 -> builds the 64-bit kernel This patch adds a sanity check which errors out with an instruction how use the correct ARCH= option. 2022-01-27parisc: Fix lpa and lpa_user definesJohn David Anglin1-20/+24
commit db19c6f1a2a353cc8dec35b4789733a3cf6e2838 upstream. While working on the rewrite to the light-weight syscall and futex code, I experimented with using a hash index based on the user physical address of atomic variable. This exposed two problems with the lpa and lpa_user defines. Because of the copy instruction, the pa argument needs to be an early clobber argument. This prevents gcc from allocating the va and pa arguments to the same register. Secondly, the lpa instruction can cause a page fault so we need to catch exceptions. 2021-12-29parisc: Fix mask used to select futex spinlockJohn David Anglin1-2/+2
commit d3a5a68cff47f6eead84504c3c28376b85053242 upstream. The address bits used to select the futex spinlock need to match those used in the LWS code in syscall.S. The mask 0x3f8 only selects 7 bits. It should select 8 bits. This change fixes the glibc nptl/tst-cond24 and nptl/tst-cond25 tests. 2021-11-18parisc: Flush kernel data mapping in set_pte_at() when installing pte for ↵John David Anglin1-2/+8
user page commit 38860b2c8bb1b92f61396eb06a63adff916fc31d upstream. For years, there have been random segmentation faults in userspace on SMP PA-RISC machines. It occurred to me that this might be a problem in set_pte_at(). MIPS and some other architectures do cache flushes when installing PTEs with the present bit set. Here I have adapted the code in update_mmu_cache() to flush the kernel mapping when the kernel flush is deferred, or when the kernel mapping may alias with the user mapping. This simplifies calls to update_mmu_cache(). I also changed the barrier in set_pte() from a compiler barrier to a full memory barrier. I know this change is not sufficient to fix the problem. It might not be needed. I have had a few days of operation with 5.14.16 to 5.15.1 and haven't seen any random segmentation faults on rp3440 or c8000 so far. 2021-09-09parisc: Implement __get/put_kernel_nofault()Helge Deller3-67/+61
Remove CONFIG_SET_FS from parisc, so we need to add __get_kernel_nofault() and __put_kernel_nofault(), define HAVE_GET_KERNEL_NOFAULT and remove set_fs(), get_fs(), load_sr2(), thread_info->addr_limit, KERNEL_DS and USER_DS. The nice side-effect of this patch is that we now can directly access userspace via sr3 without the need to use a temporary sr2 which is either copied from sr3 or set to zero (for kernel space). 2021-09-03mm: remove flush_kernel_dcache_pageChristoph Hellwig1-6/+2
flush_kernel_dcache_page is a rather confusing interface that implements a subset of flush_dcache_page by not being able to properly handle page cache mapped pages. The only callers left are in the exec code as all other previous callers were incorrect as they could have dealt with page cache pages. Replace the calls to flush_kernel_dcache_page with calls to flush_dcache_page, which for all architectures does either exactly the same thing, can contains one or more of the following: 1) an optimization to defer the cache flush for page cache pages not mapped into userspace 2) additional flushing for mapped page cache pages if cache aliases are possible Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20210712060928.4161649-7-hch@lst.de Signed-off-by: Christoph Hellwig <hch@lst.de> Acked-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org> Reviewed-by: Ira Weiny <ira.weiny@intel.com> Cc: Alex Shi <alexs@kernel.org> Cc: Geoff Levand <geoff@infradead.org> Cc: Greentime Hu <green.hu@gmail.com> Cc: Guo Ren <guoren@kernel.org> Cc: Helge Deller <deller@gmx.de> Cc: "James E.J. Parts of linux/compat.h are under an #ifdef, but we end up using more of those over time, moving things around bit by bit. To get it over with once and for all, make all of this file uncondititonal now so it can be accessed everywhere. There are only a few types left that are in asm/compat.h but not yet in the asm-generic version, so add those in the process. 2021-07-01mm/thp: define default pmd_pgtable()Anshuman Khandual1-1/+0
Currently most platforms define pmd_pgtable() as pmd_page() duplicating the same code all over. Instead just define a default value i.e pmd_page() for pmd_pgtable() and let platforms override when required via <asm/pgtable.h>. 2021-07-01mm: define default value for FIRST_USER_ADDRESSAnshuman Khandual1-2/+0
Currently most platforms define FIRST_USER_ADDRESS as 0UL duplication the same code all over. 2021-05-26locking/atomic: parisc: move to ARCH_ATOMICMark Rutland2-23/+23
We'd like all architectures to convert to ARCH_ATOMIC, as once all architectures are converted it will be possible to make significant cleanups to the atomics headers, and this will make it much easier to generically enable atomic functionality (e.g. debug logic in the instrumented wrappers). As a step towards that, this patch migrates parisc to ARCH_ATOMIC. The arch code provides arch_{atomic,atomic64,xchg,cmpxchg}*(), and common code wraps these with optional instrumentation to provide the regular functions. 2021-05-26locking/atomic: cmpxchg: make `generic` a prefixMark Rutland1-2/+2
The asm-generic implementations of cmpxchg_local() and cmpxchg64_local() use a `_generic` suffix to distinguish themselves from arch code or wrappers used elsewhere. Subsequent patches will add ARCH_ATOMIC support to these implementations, and will distinguish more functions with a `generic` portion. To align with how ARCH_ATOMIC uses an `arch_` prefix, it would be helpful to use a `generic_` prefix rather than a `_generic` suffix. In preparation for this, this patch renames the existing functions to make `generic` a prefix rather than a suffix. There should be no functional change as a result of this patch. 2021-05-10asm-generic: use asm-generic/unaligned.h for most architecturesArnd Bergmann1-5/+1
There are several architectures that just duplicate the contents of asm-generic/unaligned.h, so change those over to use the file directly, to make future modifications easier. The exceptions are: - arm32 sets HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS, but wants the unaligned-struct version - ppc64le disables HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS but includes the access-ok version - most m68k also uses the access-ok version without setting HAVE_EFFICIENT_UNALIGNED_ACCESS. - sh4a has a custom inline asm version - openrisc is the only one using the memmove version that generally leads to worse code. 2021-05-07treewide: remove editor modelines and cruftMasahiro Yamada1-1/+0
The section "19) Editor modelines and other cruft" in Documentation/process/coding-style.rst clearly says, "Do not include any of these in source files." I recently receive a patch to explicitly add a new one. Let's do treewide cleanups, otherwise some people follow the existing code and attempt to upstream their favoriate editor setups. It is even nicer if scripts/checkpatch.pl can check it. If we like to impose coding style in an editor-independent manner, I think editorconfig (patch [1]) is a saner solution. 2021-02-12parisc: Optimize per-pagetable spinlocksHelge Deller4-130/+44
On parisc a spinlock is stored in the next page behind the pgd which protects against parallel accesses to the pgd. That's why one additional page (PGD_ALLOC_ORDER) is allocated for the pgd. Matthew Wilcox suggested that we instead should use a pointer in the struct page table for this spinlock and noted, that the comments for the PGD_ORDER and PMD_ORDER defines were wrong. Both suggestions are addressed with this patch. Instead of having an own spinlock to protect the pgd, we now switch to use the existing page_table_lock. Additionally, beside loading the pgd into cr25 in switch_mm_irqs_off(), the physical address of this lock is loaded into cr28 (tr4), so that we can avoid implementing a complicated lookup in assembly for this lock in the TLB fault handlers. The existing Hybrid L2/L3 page table scheme (where the pmd is adjacent to the pgd) has been dropped with this patch. Remove the locking in set_pte() and the huge-page pte functions too. They trigger a spinlock recursion on 32bit machines and seem unnecessary. Here we convert the rest of the archs to support TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL. With that done, we can get rid of JOBCTL_TASK_WORK from task_work and signal.c, and also remove a deadlock work-around in io_uring around knowing that signal based task_work waking is invoked with the sighand wait queue head lock. The motivation for this work is to decouple signal notify based task_work, of which io_uring is a heavy user of, from sighand. The sighand lock becomes a huge contention point, particularly for threaded workloads where it's shared between threads. Even outside of threaded applications it's slower than it needs to be. Roman Gershman <romger@amazon.com> reported that his networked workload dropped from 1.6M QPS at 80% CPU to 1.0M QPS at 100% CPU after io_uring was changed to use TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL. The time was all spent hammering on the sighand lock, showing 57% of the CPU time there [1]. There are further cleanups possible on top of this. One example is TIF_PATCH_PENDING, where a patch already exists to use TIF_NOTIFY_SIGNAL instead. git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip Pull kmap updates from Thomas Gleixner: "The new preemtible kmap_local() implementation: - Consolidate all kmap_atomic() internals into a generic implementation which builds the base for the kmap_local() API and make the kmap_atomic() interface wrappers which handle the disabling/enabling of preemption and pagefaults. - Switch the storage from per-CPU to per task and provide scheduler support for clearing mapping when scheduling out and restoring them when scheduling back in. - Merge the migrate_disable/enable() code, which is also part of the scheduler pull request. This was required to make the kmap_local() interface available which does not disable preemption when a mapping is established. It has to disable migration instead to guarantee that the virtual address of the mapped slot is the same across preemption. - Provide better debug facilities: guard pages and enforced utilization of the mapping mechanics on 64bit systems when the architecture allows it. - Provide the new kmap_local() API which can now be used to cleanup the kmap_atomic() usage sites all over the place. Most of the usage sites do not require the implicit disabling of preemption and pagefaults so the penalty on 64bit and 32bit non-highmem systems is removed and quite some of the code can be simplified. A wholesale conversion is not possible because some usage depends on the implicit side effects and some need to be cleaned up because they work around these side effects. The migrate disable side effect is only effective on highmem systems and when enforced debugging is enabled. On 64bit and 32bit non-highmem systems the overhead is completely avoided" * tag 'core-mm-2020-12-14' of git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/tip/tip: (33 commits) ARM: highmem: Fix cache_is_vivt() reference x86/crashdump/32: Simplify copy_oldmem_page() io-mapping: Provide iomap_local variant mm/highmem: Provide kmap_local* sched: highmem: Store local kmaps in task struct x86: Support kmap_local() forced debugging mm/highmem: Provide CONFIG_DEBUG_KMAP_LOCAL_FORCE_MAP mm/highmem: Provide and use CONFIG_DEBUG_KMAP_LOCAL microblaze/mm/highmem: Add dropped #ifdef back xtensa/mm/highmem: Make generic kmap_atomic() work correctly mm/highmem: Take kmap_high_get() properly into account highmem: High implementation details and document API Documentation/io-mapping: Remove outdated blurb io-mapping: Cleanup atomic iomap mm/highmem: Remove the old kmap_atomic cruft highmem: Get rid of kmap_types.h xtensa/mm/highmem: Switch to generic kmap atomic sparc/mm/highmem: Switch to generic kmap atomic powerpc/mm/highmem: Switch to generic kmap atomic nds32/mm/highmem: Switch to generic kmap atomic ...

Solve this by removing the the parisc specific definition of __ARCH_UAPI_SA_FLAGS that was just added. 2020-11-23signal: clear non-uapi flag bits when passing/returning sa_flagsPeter Collingbourne1-0/+2
Previously we were not clearing non-uapi flag bits in sigaction.sa_flags when storing the userspace-provided sa_flags or when returning them via oldact. Start doing so. This allows userspace to detect missing support for flag bits and allows the kernel to use non-uapi bits internally, as we are already doing in arch/x86 for two flag bits. Now that this change is in place, we no longer need the code in arch/x86 that was hiding these bits from userspace, so remove it. This is technically a userspace-visible behavior change for sigaction, as the unknown bits returned via oldact.sa_flags are no longer set. However, we are free to define the behavior for unknown bits exactly because their behavior is currently undefined, so for now we can define the meaning of each of them to be "clear the bit in oldact.sa_flags unless the bit becomes known in the future". Furthermore, this behavior is consistent with OpenBSD [1], illumos [2] and XNU [3] (FreeBSD [4] and NetBSD [5] fail the syscall if unknown bits are set). So there is some precedent for this behavior in other kernels, and in particular in XNU, which is probably the most popular kernel among those that I looked at, which means that this change is less likely to be a compatibility issue.
