2013-03-04rds: limit the size allocated by rds_message_alloc()Cong Wang1-0/+3
Dave Jones reported the following bug: "When fed mangled socket data, rds will trust what userspace gives it, and tries to allocate enormous amounts of memory larger than what kmalloc can satisfy." 2011-11-01net: Add export.h for EXPORT_SYMBOL/THIS_MODULE to non-modulesPaul Gortmaker1-0/+1
These files are non modular, but need to export symbols using the macros now living in export.h -- call out the include so that things won't break when we remove the implicit presence of module.h from everywhere. Signed-off-by: Paul Gortmaker <paul.gortmaker@windriver.com>
2010-11-08rds: Fix rds message leak in rds_message_map_pagesPavel Emelyanov1-1/+3
The sgs allocation error path leaks the allocated message. Signed-off-by: Pavel Emelyanov <xemul@openvz.org> Acked-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-10-31RDS: Let rds_message_alloc_sgs() return NULLAndy Grover1-0/+5
Even with the previous fix, we still are reading the iovecs once to determine SGs needed, and then again later on. Preallocating space for sg lists as part of rds_message seemed like a good idea but it might be better to not do this. While working to redo that code, this patch attempts to protect against userspace rewriting the rds_iovec array between the first and second accesses. The consequences of this would be either a too-small or too-large sg list array. Too large is not an issue. This patch changes all callers of message_alloc_sgs to handle running out of preallocated sgs, and fail gracefully. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-10-21rds: make local functions/variables staticstephen hemminger1-22/+2
The RDS protocol has lots of functions that should be declared static. rds_message_get/add_version_extension is removed since it defined but never used. Signed-off-by: Stephen Hemminger <shemminger@vyatta.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2010-09-09rds: don't let RDS shutdown a connection while senders are presentChris Mason1-1/+4
This is the first in a long line of patches that tries to fix races between RDS connection shutdown and RDS traffic. Here we are maintaining a count of active senders to make sure the connection doesn't go away while they are using it. Signed-off-by: Chris Mason <chris.mason@oracle.com>
2010-09-09rds: per-rm flush_wait waitqChris Mason1-4/+3
This removes a global waitqueue used to wait for rds messages and replaces it with a waitqueue inside the rds_message struct. The global waitqueue turns into a global lock and significantly bottlenecks operations on large machines. Signed-off-by: Chris Mason <chris.mason@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Do wait_event_interruptible instead of wait_eventAndy Grover1-2/+2
Can't see a reason not to allow signals to interrupt the wait. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: rds_message_unmapped() doesn't need to check if queue activeAndy Grover1-2/+1
If the queue has nobody on it, then wake_up does nothing. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Use NOWAIT in message_map_pages()Andy Grover1-1/+1
Can no longer block, so use NOWAIT. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Add a warning if trying to allocate 0 sgsAndy Grover1-0/+1
rds_message_alloc_sgs() only works when nents is nonzero. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Do not set op_active in r_m_copy_from_user().Andy Grover1-2/+0
Do not allocate sgs for data for 0-length datagrams Set data.op_active in rds_sendmsg() instead of rds_message_copy_from_user(). Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Rename data op members prefix from m_ to op_Andy Grover1-11/+11
For consistency. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Remove struct rds_rdma_opAndy Grover1-4/+4
A big changeset, but it's all pretty dumb. struct rds_rdma_op was already embedded in struct rm_rdma_op. Remove rds_rdma_op and put its members in rm_rdma_op. Rename members with "op_" prefix instead of "r_", for consistency. Of course this breaks a lot, so fixup the code accordingly. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: purge atomic resources too in rds_message_purge()Andy Grover1-0/+5
Add atomic_free_op function, analogous to rdma_free_op, and call it in rds_message_purge(). Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Implement silent atomicsAndy Grover1-0/+2
Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Move loop-only function to loop.cAndy Grover1-6/+0
Also, try to better-document the locking around the rm and its m_inc in loop.c. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: inc_purge() transport function unused - remove itAndy Grover1-6/+0

2010-09-09RDS: make sure all sgs alloced are initializedAndy Grover1-1/+1
rds_message_alloc_sgs() now returns correctly-initialized sg lists, so calleds need not do this themselves. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: make m_rdma_op a member of rds_messageAndy Grover1-3/+6
This eliminates a separate memory alloc, although it is now necessary to add an "r_active" flag, since it is no longer to use the m_rdma_op pointer as an indicator of if an rdma op is present. rdma SGs allocated from rm sg pool. rds_rm_size also gets bigger. It's a little inefficient to run through CMSGs twice, but it makes later steps a lot smoother. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: fold rdma.h into rds.hAndy Grover1-1/+0
RDMA is now an intrinsic part of RDS, so it's easier to just have a single header. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: Explicitly allocate rm in sendmsg()Andy Grover1-21/+30
r_m_copy_from_user used to allocate the rm as well as kernel buffers for the data, and then copy the data in. Now, sendmsg() allocates the rm, although the data buffer alloc still happens in r_m_copy_from_user. SGs are still allocated with rm, but now r_m_alloc_sgs() is used to reserve them. This allows multiple SG lists to be allocated from the one rm -- this is important once we also want to alloc our rdma sgl from this pool. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: break out rdma and data ops into nested structs in rds_messageAndy Grover1-15/+15
Clearly separate rdma-related variables in rm from data-related ones. This is in anticipation of adding atomic support. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-09-09RDS: cleanup: remove "== NULL"s and "!= NULL"s in ptr comparisonsAndy Grover1-2/+2
Favor "if (foo)" style over "if (foo != NULL)". Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com>
2010-03-30include cleanup: Update gfp.h and slab.h includes to prepare for breaking ↵Tejun Heo1-0/+1
implicit slab.h inclusion from percpu.h percpu.h is included by sched.h and module.h and thus ends up being included when building most .c files. percpu.h includes slab.h which in turn includes gfp.h making everything defined by the two files universally available and complicating inclusion dependencies. percpu.h -> slab.h dependency is about to be removed. Prepare for this change by updating users of gfp and slab facilities include those headers directly instead of assuming availability. As this conversion needs to touch large number of source files, the following script is used as the basis of conversion. http://userweb.kernel.org/~tj/misc/slabh-sweep.py The script does the followings. * Scan files for gfp and slab usages and update includes such that only the necessary includes are there. ie. if only gfp is used, gfp.h, if slab is used, slab.h. * When the script inserts a new include, it looks at the include blocks and try to put the new include such that its order conforms to its surrounding. It's put in the include block which contains core kernel includes, in the same order that the rest are ordered - alphabetical, Christmas tree, rev-Xmas-tree or at the end if there doesn't seem to be any matching order. * If the script can't find a place to put a new include (mostly because the file doesn't have fitting include block), it prints out an error message indicating which .h file needs to be added to the file. The conversion was done in the following steps. 1. The initial automatic conversion of all .c files updated slightly over 4000 files, deleting around 700 includes and adding ~480 gfp.h and ~3000 slab.h inclusions. The script emitted errors for ~400 files. 2. Each error was manually checked. Some didn't need the inclusion, some needed manual addition while adding it to implementation .h or embedding .c file was more appropriate for others. This step added inclusions to around 150 files. 3. The script was run again and the output was compared to the edits from #2 to make sure no file was left behind. 4. Several build tests were done and a couple of problems were fixed. e.g. lib/decompress_*.c used malloc/free() wrappers around slab APIs requiring slab.h to be added manually. 5. The script was run on all .h files but without automatically editing them as sprinkling gfp.h and slab.h inclusions around .h files could easily lead to inclusion dependency hell. Most gfp.h inclusion directives were ignored as stuff from gfp.h was usually wildly available and often used in preprocessor macros. Each slab.h inclusion directive was examined and added manually as necessary. 6. percpu.h was updated not to include slab.h. 7. Build test were done on the following configurations and failures were fixed. CONFIG_GCOV_KERNEL was turned off for all tests (as my distributed build env didn't work with gcov compiles) and a few more options had to be turned off depending on archs to make things build (like ipr on powerpc/64 which failed due to missing writeq). * x86 and x86_64 UP and SMP allmodconfig and a custom test config. * powerpc and powerpc64 SMP allmodconfig * sparc and sparc64 SMP allmodconfig * ia64 SMP allmodconfig * s390 SMP allmodconfig * alpha SMP allmodconfig * um on x86_64 SMP allmodconfig 8. percpu.h modifications were reverted so that it could be applied as a separate patch and serve as bisection point. Given the fact that I had only a couple of failures from tests on step 6, I'm fairly confident about the coverage of this conversion patch. If there is a breakage, it's likely to be something in one of the arch headers which should be easily discoverable easily on most builds of the specific arch. 2009-08-24RDS: Export symbols from core RDSAndy Grover1-0/+6
Now that rdma and tcp transports will be modularized, we need to export a number of functions so they can call them. Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <andy.grover@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
