2020-05-06RDMA: Allow ib_client's to fail when add() is calledJason Gunthorpe1-8/+13
When a client is added it isn't allowed to fail, but all the client's have various failure paths within their add routines. This creates the very fringe condition where the client was added, failed during add and didn't set the client_data. The core code will then still call other client_data centric ops like remove(), rename(), get_nl_info(), and get_net_dev_by_params() with NULL client_data - which is confusing and unexpected. If the add() callback fails, then do not call any more client ops for the device, even remove. Remove all the now redundant checks for NULL client_data in ops callbacks. Update all the add() callbacks to return error codes appropriately. EOPNOTSUPP is used for cases where the ULP does not support the ib_device - eg because it only works with IB. 2019-10-03net/rds: Use DMA memory pool allocation for rds_headerKa-Cheong Poon1-1/+9
Currently, RDS calls ib_dma_alloc_coherent() to allocate a large piece of contiguous DMA coherent memory to store struct rds_header for sending/receiving packets. The memory allocated is then partitioned into struct rds_header. This is not necessary and can be costly at times when memory is fragmented. Instead, RDS should use the DMA memory pool interface to handle this. The DMA addresses of the pre- allocated headers are stored in an array. At send/receive ring initialization and refill time, this arrary is de-referenced to get the DMA addresses. This array is not accessed at send/receive packet processing. 2019-10-02net/rds: Fix error handling in rds_ib_add_one()Dotan Barak1-3/+3
rds_ibdev:ipaddr_list and rds_ibdev:conn_list are initialized after allocation some resources such as protection domain. If allocation of such resources fail, then these uninitialized variables are accessed in rds_ib_dev_free() in failure path. This can potentially crash the system. The code has been updated to initialize these variables very early in the function. The root cause is: When "rmmod rds_rdma" is run, rds_ib_remove_one will call rds_ib_dev_shutdown to drop the rds connections. rds_ib_dev_shutdown will call rds_conn_drop to drop rds connections as below. This does not move rds connections to ib_nodev_conns. So destroy is set to true to move rds connections to ib_nodev_conns. In rds_ib_unregister_client, flush_workqueue is called to make rds_wq finsh shutdown rds connections. The function rds_ib_destroy_nodev_conns is called to shutdown rds connections finally. Then rds_ib_recv_exit is called to destroy slab. void rds_ib_recv_exit(void) { kmem_cache_destroy(rds_ib_incoming_slab); kmem_cache_destroy(rds_ib_frag_slab); } The above slab memory leak will not occur again. >From tests, 256 rds connections [root@ca-dev14 ~]# time rmmod rds_rdma real 0m16.522s user 0m0.000s sys 0m8.152s 512 rds connections [root@ca-dev14 ~]# time rmmod rds_rdma real 0m32.054s user 0m0.000s sys 0m15.568s To rmmod rds_rdma with 256 rds connections, about 16 seconds are needed. 2019-06-06net: rds: add per rds connection cache statisticsZhu Yanjun1-0/+2
The variable cache_allocs is to indicate how many frags (KiB) are in one rds connection frag cache. The command "rds-info -Iv" will output the rds connection cache statistics as below: " RDS IB Connections: LocalAddr RemoteAddr Tos SL LocalDev RemoteDev 1.1.1.14 1.1.1.14 58 255 fe80::2:c903:a:7a31 fe80::2:c903:a:7a31 send_wr=256, recv_wr=1024, send_sge=8, rdma_mr_max=4096, rdma_mr_size=257, cache_allocs=12 " This means that there are about 12KiB frag in this rds connection frag cache. Since rds.h in rds-tools is not related with the kernel rds.h, the change in kernel rds.h does not affect rds-tools. rds-info in rds-tools 2.0.5 and 2.0.6 is tested with this commit. It works well. 2018-08-28net/rds: Use rdma_read_gids to get connection SGID/DGID in IPv6Zhu Yanjun1-7/+2
In IPv4, the newly introduced rdma_read_gids is used to read the SGID/DGID for the connection which returns GID correctly for RoCE transport as well. In IPv6, rdma_read_gids is also used. The following are why rdma_read_gids is introduced. rdma_addr_get_dgid() for RoCE for client side connections returns MAC address, instead of DGID. rdma_addr_get_sgid() for RoCE doesn't return correct SGID for IPv6 and when more than one IP address is assigned to the netdevice. So the transport agnostic rdma_read_gids() API is provided by rdma_cm module. 2018-07-24rds: Extend RDS API for IPv6 supportKa-Cheong Poon1-0/+52
There are many data structures (RDS socket options) used by RDS apps which use a 32 bit integer to store IP address. To support IPv6, struct in6_addr needs to be used. To ensure backward compatibility, a new data structure is introduced for each of those data structures which use a 32 bit integer to represent an IP address. And new socket options are introduced to use those new structures. This means that existing apps should work without a problem with the new RDS module. For apps which want to use IPv6, those new data structures and socket options can be used. IPv4 mapped address is used to represent IPv4 address in the new data structures. v4: Revert changes to SO_RDS_TRANSPORT Signed-off-by: Ka-Cheong Poon <ka-cheong.poon@oracle.com> Acked-by: Santosh Shilimkar <santosh.shilimkar@oracle.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2018-07-24rds: Enable RDS IPv6 supportKa-Cheong Poon1-8/+47
This patch enables RDS to use IPv6 addresses. For RDS/TCP, the listener is now an IPv6 endpoint which accepts both IPv4 and IPv6 connection requests. RDS/RDMA/IB uses a private data (struct rds_ib_connect_private) exchange between endpoints at RDS connection establishment time to support RDMA. This private data exchange uses a 32 bit integer to represent an IP address. This needs to be changed in order to support IPv6. A new private data struct rds6_ib_connect_private is introduced to handle this. To ensure backward compatibility, an IPv6 capable RDS stack uses another RDMA listener port (RDS_CM_PORT) to accept IPv6 connection. And it continues to use the original RDS_PORT for IPv4 RDS connections. When it needs to communicate with an IPv6 peer, it uses the RDS_CM_PORT to send the connection set up request. v5: Fixed syntax problem (David Miller). v4: Changed port history comments in rds.h (Sowmini Varadhan). v3: Added support to set up IPv4 connection using mapped address (David Miller). 2018-06-18IB/core: add max_send_sge and max_recv_sge attributesSteve Wise1-1/+1
This patch replaces the ib_device_attr.max_sge with max_send_sge and max_recv_sge. It allows ulps to take advantage of devices that have very different send and recv sge depths. For example cxgb4 has a max_recv_sge of 4, yet a max_send_sge of 16. Splitting out these attributes allows much more efficient use of the SQ for cxgb4 with ulps that use the RDMA_RW API. Consider a large RDMA WRITE that has 16 scattergather entries. With max_sge of 4, the ulp would send 4 WRITE WRs, but with max_sge of 16, it can be done with 1 WRITE WR. 2018-06-13treewide: kzalloc() -> kcalloc()Kees Cook1-1/+2
The kzalloc() function has a 2-factor argument form, kcalloc(). This patch replaces cases of: kzalloc(a * b, gfp) with: kcalloc(a * b, gfp) as well as handling cases of: kzalloc(a * b * c, gfp) with: kzalloc(array3_size(a, b, c), gfp) as it's slightly less ugly than: kzalloc_array(array_size(a, b), c, gfp) This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like: kzalloc(4 * 1024, gfp) though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion. rds connection/workq management An rds_connection can get added during netns deletion between lines 528 and 529 of 506 static void rds_tcp_kill_sock(struct net *net) : /* code to pull out all the rds_connections that should be destroyed */ : 528 spin_unlock_irq(&rds_tcp_conn_lock); 529 list_for_each_entry_safe(tc, _tc, &tmp_list, t_tcp_node) 530 rds_conn_destroy(tc->t_cpath->cp_conn); Such an rds_connection would miss out the rds_conn_destroy() loop (that cancels all pending work) and (if it was scheduled after netns deletion) could trigger the use-after-free. A similar race-window exists for the module unload path in rds_tcp_exit -> rds_tcp_destroy_conns Concurrency with netns deletion (rds_tcp_kill_sock()) must be handled by checking check_net() before enqueuing new work or adding new connections. Concurrency with module-unload is handled by maintaining a module specific flag that is set at the start of the module exit function, and must be checked before enqueuing new work or adding new connections. This commit refactors existing RDS_DESTROY_PENDING checks added by commit 3db6e0d172c9 ("rds: use RCU to synchronize work-enqueue with connection teardown") and consolidates all the concurrency checks listed above into the function rds_destroy_pending(). 2016-06-15RDS: split out connection specific state from rds_connection to rds_conn_pathSowmini Varadhan1-0/+1
In preparation for multipath RDS, split the rds_connection structure into a base structure, and a per-path struct rds_conn_path. The base structure tracks information and locks common to all paths. The workqs for send/recv/shutdown etc are tracked per rds_conn_path. Thus the workq callbacks now work with rds_conn_path. This commit allows for one rds_conn_path per rds_connection, and will be extended into multiple conn_paths in subsequent commits. 2015-10-28IB/cma: Add support for network namespacesGuy Shapiro1-1/+1
Add support for network namespaces in the ib_cma module. This is accomplished by: 1. Adding network namespace parameter for rdma_create_id. This parameter is used to populate the network namespace field in rdma_id_private. rdma_create_id keeps a reference on the network namespace. 2. Using the network namespace from the rdma_id instead of init_net inside of ib_cma, when listening on an ID and when looking for an ID for an incoming request. 3. Decrementing the reference count for the appropriate network namespace when calling rdma_destroy_id. In order to preserve the current behavior init_net is passed when calling from other modules. I've put them through a decent amount of testing prior to sending the pull request due to that. There are still a few fixups that I know are coming, but I wanted to go ahead and get the big, sizable chunk into your hands sooner rather than waiting for those last few fixups. Of note is the fact that this creates what is intended to be a temporary area in the drivers/staging tree specifically for some cleanups and additions that are coming for the RDMA stack. We deprecated two drivers (ipath and amso1100) and are waiting to hear back if we can deprecate another one (ehca). We also put Intel's new hfi1 driver into this area because it needs to be refactored and a transfer library created out of the factored out code, and then it and the qib driver and the soft-roce driver should all be modified to use that library. 2015-08-30IB/core: lock client data with lists_rwsemHaggai Eran1-3/+2
An ib_client callback that is called with the lists_rwsem locked only for read is protected from changes to the IB client lists, but not from ib_unregister_device() freeing its client data. This is because ib_unregister_device() will remove the device from the device list with lists_rwsem locked for write, but perform the rest of the cleanup, including the call to remove() without that lock. Mark client data that is undergoing de-registration with a new going_down flag in the client data context. Lock the client data list with lists_rwsem for write in addition to using the spinlock, so that functions calling the callback would be able to lock only lists_rwsem for read and let callbacks sleep. Since ib_unregister_client() now marks the client data context, no need for remove() to search the context again, so pass the client data directly to remove() callbacks.
