2019-06-27batman-adv: no need to check return value of debugfs_create functionsGreg Kroah-Hartman1-79/+20
When calling debugfs functions, there is no need to ever check the return value. The function can work or not, but the code logic should never do something different based on this. Because we don't care if debugfs works or not, this trickles back a bit so we can clean things up by making some functions return void instead of an error value that is never going to fail. 2018-11-12batman-adv: Add includes for deprecation warningSven Eckelmann1-0/+2
The commit 00caf6a2b318 ("batman-adv: Mark debugfs functionality as deprecated") introduced various messages to inform the user about the deprecation of the debugfs based functionality. The messages also include the context/task in which this problem was observed. The datastructures and functions to access this information require special headers. These should be included directly instead of depending on a more complex and fragile include chain. 2018-09-14batman-adv: Mark debugfs functionality as deprecatedSven Eckelmann1-0/+37
CONFIG_BATMAN_ADV_DEBUGFS is disabled by default because debugfs is not supported for batman-adv interfaces in any non-default netns. Any remaining users of this interface should still be informed about the deprecation and the generic netlink alternative. 2018-06-23batman-adv: Fix debugfs path for renamed softifSven Eckelmann1-0/+20
batman-adv is creating special debugfs directories in the init net_namespace for each created soft-interface (batadv net_device). But it is possible to rename a net_device to a completely different name then the original one. It can therefore happen that a user registers a new batadv net_device with the name "bat0". batman-adv is then also adding a new directory under $debugfs/batman-adv/ with the name "wlan0". The user then decides to rename this device to "bat1" and registers a different batadv device with the name "bat0". batman-adv will then try to create a directory with the name "bat0" under $debugfs/batman-adv/ again. But there already exists one with this name under this path and thus this fails. batman-adv will detect a problem and rollback the registering of this device. batman-adv must therefore take care of renaming the debugfs directories for soft-interfaces whenever it detects such a net_device rename. 2018-06-23batman-adv: Fix debugfs path for renamed hardifSven Eckelmann1-0/+20
batman-adv is creating special debugfs directories in the init net_namespace for each valid hard-interface (net_device). But it is possible to rename a net_device to a completely different name then the original one. It can therefore happen that a user registers a new net_device which gets the name "wlan0" assigned by default. batman-adv is also adding a new directory under $debugfs/batman-adv/ with the name "wlan0". The user then decides to rename this device to "wl_pri" and registers a different device. The kernel may now decide to use the name "wlan0" again for this new device. batman-adv will detect it as a valid net_device and tries to create a directory with the name "wlan0" under $debugfs/batman-adv/. But there already exists one with this name under this path and thus this fails. batman-adv will detect a problem and rollback the registering of this device. batman-adv must therefore take care of renaming the debugfs directories for hard-interfaces whenever it detects such a net_device rename. 2017-12-15batman-adv: Add kernel-doc to externally visible functionsSven Eckelmann1-0/+16
According to the kernel-doc documentation, externally visible functions should be documented. This refers to all all non-static function which can (and will) be used by functions in other sources files. 2017-12-15batman-adv: Use parentheses in function kernel-docSven Eckelmann1-6/+6
The documentation describing kernel-doc comments for functions ("How to format kernel-doc comments") uses parentheses at the end of the function name. Using this format allows to use a consistent style when adding documentation to a function and when referencing this function in a different kernel-doc section. 2017-12-15batman-adv: Add SPDX license identifier above copyright headerSven Eckelmann1-0/+1
The "Linux kernel licensing rules" require that each file has a SPDX license identifier as first line (and sometimes as second line). The FSFE REUSE practices [1] would also require the same tags but have no restrictions on the placement in the source file. Using the "Linux kernel licensing rules" is therefore also fulfilling the FSFE REUSE practices requirements at the same time. 2016-10-19batman-adv: Use octal permissions instead of macrosSven Eckelmann1-14/+12
Linus prefers to have octal permission numbers instead of combinations of macro names ("random line noise"). Also old existing "bad symbolic permission bit macro use" should be converted to octal numbers. (http://lkml.kernel.org/r/CA+55aFw5v23T-zvDZp-MmD_EYxF8WbafwwB59934FV7g21uMGQ@mail.gmail.com) Also remove the S_IFREG bit from the octal representation because it is filtered out by debugfs_create. 2016-08-09batman-adv: Suppress debugfs entries for netns'sAndrew Lunn1-0/+18
Debugfs is not netns aware. It thus has problems when the same interface name exists in multiple network name spaces. Work around this by not creating entries for interfaces in name spaces other than the default name space. This means meshes in network namespaces cannot be managed via debugfs, but there will soon be a netlink interface which is netns aware. 2016-06-30batman-adv: move bat_algo functions into a separate fileSven Eckelmann1-0/+1
The bat_algo functionality in main.c is mostly unrelated to the rest of the content. It still takes up a large portion of this source file (~15%, 103 lines). Moving it to a separate file makes it better visible as a main component of the batman-adv implementation and hides it less in the other helper functions in main.c. 2016-05-10batman-adv: Use bool as return type for boolean functionsSven Eckelmann1-1/+1
It is easier to understand that the returned value of a specific function doesn't have to be 0 when the functions was successful when the actual return type is bool. This is especially true when all surrounding functions with return type int use negative values to return the error code. 2015-06-07batman-adv: Add required includes to all filesSven Eckelmann1-8/+29
The header files could not be build indepdent from each other. This is happened because headers didn't include the files for things they've used. This was problematic because the success of a build depended on the knowledge about the right order of local includes. Also source files were not including everything they've used explicitly. Instead they required that transitive includes are always stable. This is problematic because some transitive includes are not obvious, depend on config settings and may not be stable in the future. The order for include blocks are: * primary headers (main.h and the *.h file of a *.c file) * global linux headers * required local headers * extra forward declarations for pointers in function/struct declarations The only exceptions are linux/bitops.h and linux/if_ether.h in packet.h. This header file is shared with userspace applications like batctl and must therefore build together with userspace applications. The header linux/bitops.h is not part of the uapi headers and linux/if_ether.h conflicts with the musl implementation of netinet/if_ether.h. The maintainers rejected the use of __KERNEL__ preprocessor checks and thus these two headers are only in main.h. All files using packet.h first have to include main.h to work correctly. 2015-05-29batman-adv: debugfs, avoid compiling for !DEBUG_FSMarkus Pargmann1-8/+0
Normally the debugfs framework will return error pointer with -ENODEV for function calls when DEBUG_FS is not set. batman does not notice this error code and continues trying to create debugfs files and executes more code. We can avoid this code execution by disabling compiling debugfs.c when DEBUG_FS is not set. 2013-03-14batman-adv: network coding - detect coding nodes and remove these after timeoutMartin Hundebøll1-0/+18
To use network coding efficiently, a relay must know when neighbor nodes are likely to have enough information to be able to decode a network coded packet. This is detected by using OGMs from batman-adv to discover when one neighbor is in range of another neighbor. The relay check the TLL to detect when an OGM is forwarded from one neighbor by another neighbor, and thereby knows that the two neighbors are in range and thus overhear packets sent by each other. This information is saved in the orig_node struct to be used when searching for coding opportunities. Two lists are added to the orig_node struct: One for neighbors that can hear the orig_node (outgoing nc_nodes) and one for neighbors that the orig_node can hear (incoming nc_nodes). Information about nc_nodes is kept for 10 seconds and is available through debugfs in batman_adv/nc_nodes to use when debugging network coding.
