2018-08-09ssb: Remove SSB_WARN_ON, SSB_BUG_ON and SSB_DEBUGMichael Büsch1-2/+0
Use the standard WARN_ON instead. If a small kernel is desired, WARN_ON can be disabled globally. Also remove SSB_DEBUG. Besides WARN_ON it only adds a tiny debug check. Include this check unconditionally. Signed-off-by: Michael Buesch <m@bues.ch> Signed-off-by: Kalle Valo <kvalo@codeaurora.org>
2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman6-0/+6
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2015-12-16ssb: pick SoC invariants code from MIPS BCM47xx archRafał Miłecki1-7/+3
There is code in ssb fetching "invariants" that is basically a set of board specific data. Every host requires its own implementation of reading function. In ssb we have support for PCI, PCMCIA & SDIO. For some (historical?) reason code reading "invariants" for SoC was placed in arch code and provided by a callback. This is not needed nowadays, so lets move that into ssb. This way we keep all "invariants" functions in a single module making code cleaner. 2012-03-24Merge tag 'bug-for-3.4' of ↵Linus Torvalds1-0/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/paulg/linux Pull <linux/bug.h> cleanup from Paul Gortmaker: "The changes shown here are to unify linux's BUG support under the one <linux/bug.h> file. Due to historical reasons, we have some BUG code in bug.h and some in kernel.h -- i.e. the support for BUILD_BUG in linux/kernel.h predates the addition of linux/bug.h, but old code in kernel.h wasn't moved to bug.h at that time. As a band-aid, kernel.h was including <asm/bug.h> to pseudo link them. This has caused confusion[1] and general yuck/WTF[2] reactions. Here is an example that violates the principle of least surprise: CC lib/string.o lib/string.c: In function 'strlcat': lib/string.c:225:2: error: implicit declaration of function 'BUILD_BUG_ON' make[2]: *** [lib/string.o] Error 1 $ $ grep linux/bug.h lib/string.c #include <linux/bug.h> $ We've included <linux/bug.h> for the BUG infrastructure and yet we still get a compile fail! [We've not kernel.h for BUILD_BUG_ON.] Ugh - very confusing for someone who is new to kernel development. With the above in mind, the goals of this changeset are: 1) find and fix any include/*.h files that were relying on the implicit presence of BUG code. 2) find and fix any C files that were consuming kernel.h and hence relying on implicitly getting some/all BUG code. 3) Move the BUG related code living in kernel.h to <linux/bug.h> 4) remove the asm/bug.h from kernel.h to finally break the chain. During development, the order was more like 3-4, build-test, 1-2. But to ensure that git history for bisect doesn't get needless build failures introduced, the commits have been reorderd to fix the problem areas in advance. 2012-03-06ssb: add some missing sprom attributesHauke Mehrtens1-1/+75
This patch extends the sprom struct to contain all sprom attributes found in sprom version 1 to 9. This was done accordingly to the open source part of the Broadcom SDK. Signed-off-by: Hauke Mehrtens <hauke@hauke-m.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2012-03-06ssb: add alpha2Hauke Mehrtens1-0/+1
This member contains the country code encoded with two chars Signed-off-by: Hauke Mehrtens <hauke@hauke-m.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2012-03-06ssb: fix per path sprom varsHauke Mehrtens1-1/+1
On sprom version 4 and 5 there are 4 values for pa_2g, pa_5gl, pa_5g and pa_5gh, for sprom version 8 and 9 there are only 3. Make the per path sprom store also work for older sprom versions. Signed-off-by: Hauke Mehrtens <hauke@hauke-m.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2012-03-06ssb: remove 5GHz antenna gain from spromHauke Mehrtens1-6/+1
There is no 2.4 GHz or 5GHz antenna gain stored in sprom. The sprom just stores the gain values for antenna 1 and 2 or 1 to 4 for more recent sprom versions. On old devices antenna 2 was used for 5 GHz wifi. Signed-off-by: Hauke Mehrtens <hauke@hauke-m.de> Signed-off-by: John W. Linville <linville@tuxdriver.com>
2012-03-06ssb: sprom fix some sizes / signednessHauke Mehrtens1-8/+8
Some parts of the sprom struct are bigger than needed. The leddc and maxpwr values are just 8 bit long and not 16. rxpo2g and rxpo5g are signed I got these information for the open source part of the Broadcom SDK covering sprom version 1 to 9. rxpo2g contained a negative number on my bcm5354 based device, this cased an error and Broadcom SDK says this is signed. 2012-03-05BUG: headers with BUG/BUG_ON etc. need linux/bug.hPaul Gortmaker1-0/+1
If a header file is making use of BUG, BUG_ON, BUILD_BUG_ON, or any other BUG variant in a static inline (i.e. not in a #define) then that header really should be including <linux/bug.h> and not just expecting it to be implicitly present. We can make this change risk-free, since if the files using these headers didn't have exposure to linux/bug.h already, they would have been causing compile failures/warnings. 2012-01-24ssb: SPROM: extract each core power infoRafał Miłecki2-0/+42
We already extract some basic info but it's incomplete, reads info about the first core only. Used data structure doesn't allow easy adding of more cores. This patch adds new struct and array for storing power info. The plan is to: switch all extractors (including the ones using NVRAM) to new struct, switch drivers, then deprecate and finally drop old SSB fields. 2011-11-01include: convert various register fcns to macros to avoid include chainingPaul Gortmaker1-4/+3
The original implementations reference THIS_MODULE in an inline. We could include <linux/export.h>, but it is better to avoid chaining. Fortunately someone else already thought of this, and made a similar inline into a #define in <linux/device.h> for device_schedule_callback(), [see commit 523ded71de0] so follow that precedent here. Also bubble up any __must_check that were used on the prev. wrapper inline functions up one to the real __register functions, to preserve any prev. sanity checks that were used in those instances.
