2019-08-22ubifs: Limit the number of pages in shrink_liabilityLiu Song1-1/+1
If the number of dirty pages to be written back is large, then writeback_inodes_sb will block waiting for a long time, causing hung task detection alarm. Therefore, we should limit the maximum number of pages written back this time, which let the budget be completed faster. The remaining dirty pages tend to rely on the writeback mechanism to complete the synchronization. 2015-03-25UBIFS: extend debug/message capabilitiesSheng Yong1-1/+1
In the case where we have more than one volumes on different UBI devices, it may be not that easy to tell which volume prints the messages. Add ubi number and volume id in ubifs_msg/warn/error to help debug. These two values are passed by struct ubifs_info. For those where ubifs_info is not initialized yet, ubifs_* is replaced by pr_*. For those where ubifs_info is not avaliable, ubifs_info is passed to the calling function as a const parameter. The output looks like, [ 95.444879] UBIFS (ubi0:1): background thread "ubifs_bgt0_1" started, PID 696 [ 95.484688] UBIFS (ubi0:1): UBIFS: mounted UBI device 0, volume 1, name "test1" [ 95.484694] UBIFS (ubi0:1): LEB size: 126976 bytes (124 KiB), min./max. 2011-10-30writeback: Add a 'reason' to wb_writeback_workCurt Wohlgemuth1-1/+1
This creates a new 'reason' field in a wb_writeback_work structure, which unambiguously identifies who initiates writeback activity. A 'wb_reason' enumeration has been added to writeback.h, to enumerate the possible reasons. The 'writeback_work_class' and tracepoint event class and 'writeback_queue_io' tracepoints are updated to include the symbolic 'reason' in all trace events. And the 'writeback_inodes_sbXXX' family of routines has had a wb_stats parameter added to them, so callers can specify why writeback is being started. 2011-05-13UBIFS: introduce a separate structure for budgeting infoArtem Bityutskiy1-52/+52
This patch separates out all the budgeting-related information from 'struct ubifs_info' to 'struct ubifs_budg_info'. This way the code looks a bit cleaner. However, the main driver for this is that we want to save budgeting information and print it later, so a separate data structure for this is helpful. This patch is a preparation for the further debugging output improvements. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>

Make sure that not only sync_filesystem but all callers of writeback_inodes_sb have the superblock protected against remount. As-is this disables all functionality for these callers, but the next patch relies on this locking to fix writeback_inodes_sb for sync_filesystem. 2009-09-16writeback: separate starting of sync vs opportunistic writebackJens Axboe1-17/+3
bdi_start_writeback() is currently split into two paths, one for WB_SYNC_NONE and one for WB_SYNC_ALL. Add bdi_sync_writeback() for WB_SYNC_ALL writeback and let bdi_start_writeback() handle only WB_SYNC_NONE. Push down the writeback_control allocation and only accept the parameters that make sense for each function. This cleans up the API considerably. Signed-off-by: Jens Axboe <jens.axboe@oracle.com>

2009-09-11writeback: get rid of generic_sync_sb_inodes() exportJens Axboe1-14/+2
This adds two new exported functions: - writeback_inodes_sb(), which only attempts to writeback dirty inodes on this super_block, for WB_SYNC_NONE writeout. - sync_inodes_sb(), which writes out all dirty inodes on this super_block and also waits for the IO to complete. 2009-05-29UBIFS: remove dead codeArtem Bityutskiy1-1/+0
UBIFS assumes that @c->min_io_size is 8 in case of NOR flash. This is because UBIFS alignes all nodes to 8-byte boundary, and maintaining @c->min_io_size introduced unnecessary complications. This patch removes senseless constructs like: if (c->min_io_size == 1) NOR-specific code Also, few commentaries amendments. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>
2009-05-06UBIFS: reset no_space flag after inode deletionAdrian Hunter1-1/+2
When UBIFS runs out of space it spends a lot of time trying to find more space before returning ENOSPC. As there is no point repeating that unless something has changed, UBIFS has an optimization to record that the file system is 100% full and not try to find space. That flag was not being reset when a pending deletion was finally done. Signed-off-by: Adrian Hunter <adrian.hunter@nokia.com> Reviewed-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>

2008-08-31UBIFS: improve statfs reportingArtem Bityutskiy1-0/+45
Make free space calculation less pessimistic and more realistic, which in turn improves 'statfs()' reports. Now it lies by 10%-20%, instead of 20%-30% (10% more honest). Results of "freespace" test (120MiB volume, 16KiB LEB size, 512 bytes page size). 2008-08-31UBIFS: remove incorrect index space checkArtem Bityutskiy1-14/+1
When we report free space to user-space, we should not report 0 if the amount of empty LEBs is too low, because they would be produced by GC when needed. Thus, just call 'ubifs_calc_available()' straight away which would take 'min_idx_lebs' into account anyway. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>
2008-08-31UBIFS: push empty flash hack downArtem Bityutskiy1-13/+11
We have a hack which forces the amount of flash space to be equivalent to 'c->blocks_cnt' in case of empty FS. This is to make users happy and see '%0' used in 'df' when they mount an empty FS. This hack is not needed in 'ubifs_calc_available()', but it is only needed the caller, in 'ubifs_budg_get_free_space()'. So push it down there. 2008-08-31UBIFS: do not update min_idx_lebs in stafsArtem Bityutskiy1-1/+0
This is bad because the rest of the code should not depend on it, and this may hide bugss, instead of revealing them. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>

2008-08-13UBIFS: reserve more space for indexArtem Bityutskiy1-4/+4
At the moment UBIFS reserves twice old index size space for the index. But this is not enough in some cases, because if the indexing node are very fragmented and there are many small gaps, while the dirty index has big znodes - in-the-gaps method would fail. Thus, reserve trise as more, in which case we are guaranteed that we can commit in any case. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>
2008-08-13UBIFS: align inode data to eightArtem Bityutskiy1-1/+9
UBIFS aligns node lengths to 8, so budgeting has to do the same. Well, direntry, inode, and page budgets are already aligned, but not inode data budget (e.g., data in special devices or symlinks). Do this for inode data as well. Also, add corresponding debugging checks. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>
2008-08-13UBIFS: improve budgeting checksArtem Bityutskiy1-0/+12
Budgeting is a crucial UBIFS subsystem - add more assertions to improve requests checking. This is not compiled in when UBIFS debugging is disabled. Signed-off-by: Artem Bityutskiy <Artem.Bityutskiy@nokia.com>
2008-08-13UBIFS: fix budgeting calculationsArtem Bityutskiy1-2/+3
The 'ubifs_release_dirty_inode_budget()' was buggy and incorrectly freed the budget, which led to not freeing all dirty data budget. This patch fixes that. Also, this patch fixes ubifs_mkdir() which passed 1 in dirty_ino_d, which makes no sense. Well, it is harmless though. Also, add few more useful assertions. And improve few debugging messages.
