Since moving to memalloc_nofs_save/restore, SUNRPC has stopped setting the
GFP_NOIO flag on sk_allocation which the networking system uses to decide
when it is safe to use current->task_frag. The results of this are
unexpected corruption in task_frag when SUNRPC is involved in memory
reclaim.
The corruption can be seen in crashes, but the root cause is often
difficult to ascertain as a crashing machine's stack trace will have no
evidence of being near NFS or SUNRPC code. I believe this problem to
be much more pervasive than reports to the community may indicate.
Fix this by having kernel users of sockets that may corrupt task_frag due
to reclaim set sk_use_task_frag = false. Preemptively correcting this
situation for users that still set sk_allocation allows them to convert to
memalloc_nofs_save/restore without the same unexpected corruptions that are
sure to follow, unlikely to show up in testing, and difficult to bisect.

Pull USB and Thunderbolt driver updates from Greg KH:
"Here is the large set of USB and Thunderbolt driver changes for
6.2-rc1. Overall, thanks to the removal of a driver, more lines were
removed than added, a nice change. Highlights include:
- removal of the sisusbvga driver that was not used by anyone anymore
- minor thunderbolt driver changes and tweaks
- chipidea driver updates
- usual set of typec driver features and hardware support added
- musb minor driver fixes
- fotg210 driver fixes, bringing that hardware back from the "dead"
- minor dwc3 driver updates
- addition, and then removal, of a list.h helper function for many
USB and other subsystem drivers, that ended up breaking the build.
That will come back for 6.3-rc1, it missed this merge window.
- usual xhci updates and enhancements
- usb-serial driver updates and support for new devices
- other minor USB driver updates
All of these have been in linux-next for a while with no reported
problems"

READ/WRITE proved to be actively confusing - the meanings are
"data destination, as used with read(2)" and "data source, as
used with write(2)", but people keep interpreting those as
"we read data from it" and "we write data to it", i.e. exactly
the wrong way.
Call them ITER_DEST and ITER_SOURCE - at least that is harder
to misinterpret...

Fix v_recv_cmd_submit() to use PIPE_BULK define instead of hard coded
values. This also fixes the following signed integer overflow error
reported by cppcheck. This is not an issue since pipe is unsigned int.
However, this change improves the code to use proper define.
drivers/usb/usbip/vudc_rx.c:152:26: error: Signed integer overflow for expression '3<<30'. [integerOverflow]
urb_p->urb->pipe &= ~(3 << 30);
In addition, add a build time check for PIPE_BULK != 3 as the code path
depends on PIPE_BULK = 3.

USBIP driver packs URB transfer flags in network packets that are
exchanged between Server (usbip_host) and Client (vhci_hcd).
URB_* flags are internal to kernel and could change. Where as USBIP
URB flags exchanged in network packets are USBIP user API must not
change.
Add USBIP_URB* flags to make this an explicit API and change the
client and server to map them. Details as follows:
Client tx path (USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT):
- Maps URB_* to USBIP_URB_* when it sends USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT packet.
Server rx path (USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT):
- Maps USBIP_URB_* to URB_* when it receives USBIP_CMD_SUBMIT packet.
Flags aren't included in USBIP_CMD_UNLINK and USBIP_RET_SUBMIT packets
and no special handling is needed for them in the following cases:
- Server rx path (USBIP_CMD_UNLINK)
- Client rx path & Server tx path (USBIP_RET_SUBMIT)
Update protocol documentation to reflect the change.

This code does:
spin_unlock_irq(&udc->ud.lock);
spin_unlock_irqrestore(&udc->lock, flags);
which does not make sense. In theory, the first unlock could enable
IRQs and then the second _irqrestore could disable them again. There
would be a brief momemt where IRQs were enabled improperly.
In real life, however, this function is always called with IRQs enabled
and the bug does not affect runtime.

It generally doesn't make sense to use _irq() and _irqsave() in the same
function because either some of the callers have disabled IRQs or they
haven't. In this case, the v_recv_cmd_submit() appears to always be
called with IRQs enabled so the code works fine. That means I could
convert it to either _irq() or _irqsave() but I chose to use _irqsave()
because it's more conservative and easier to review.

The function documentation of usb_set_configuration says that its
callers should hold the device lock. This lock is held for all
callsites except tweak_set_configuration_cmd. The code path can be
executed for example when attaching a remote USB device.
The solution is to surround the call by the device lock.
This bug was found using my experimental own-developed static analysis
tool, which reported the missing lock on v5.17.2. I manually verified
this bug report by doing code review as well. I runtime checked that
the required lock is not held. I compiled and runtime tested this on
x86_64 with a USB mouse. After applying this patch, my analyser no
longer reports this potential bug.

When a remote usb device is attached to the local Virtual USB
Host Controller Root Hub port, the bound device driver may send
a port reset command.
vhci_hcd accepts port resets only when the device doesn't have
port address assigned to it. When reset happens device is in
assigned/used state and vhci_hcd rejects it leaving the port in
a stuck state.
This problem was found when a blue-tooth or xbox wireless dongle
was passed through using usbip.
A few drivers reset the port during probe including mt76 driver
specific to this bug report. Fix the problem with a change to
honor reset requests when device is in used state (VDEV_ST_USED).

In vhci_device_unlink_cleanup(), the URBs for unsent unlink requests are
not given back. This sometimes causes usb_kill_urb to wait indefinitely
for that urb to be given back. syzbot has reported a hung task issue [1]
for this.
To fix this, give back the urbs corresponding to unsent unlink requests
(unlink_tx list) similar to how urbs corresponding to unanswered unlink
requests (unlink_rx list) are given back.

Fuzzing uncovered race condition between sysfs code paths in usbip
drivers. Device connect/disconnect code paths initiated through
sysfs interface are prone to races if disconnect happens during
connect and vice versa.
This problem is common to all drivers while it can be reproduced easily
in vhci_hcd. Add a sysfs_lock to usbip_device struct to protect the paths.
Use this in vhci_hcd to protect sysfs paths. For a complete fix, usip_host
and usip-vudc drivers and the event handler will have to use this lock to
protect the paths. These changes will be done in subsequent patches.

usbip_sockfd_store() is invoked when user requests attach (import)
detach (unimport) usb gadget device from usbip host. vhci_hcd sends
import request and usbip_sockfd_store() exports the device if it is
free for export.
Export and unexport are governed by local state and shared state
- Shared state (usbip device status, sockfd) - sockfd and Device
status are used to determine if stub should be brought up or shut
down. Device status is shared between host and client.
- Local state (tcp_socket, rx and tx thread task_struct ptrs)
A valid tcp_socket controls rx and tx thread operations while the
device is in exported state.
- While the device is exported, device status is marked used and socket,
sockfd, and thread pointers are valid.
Export sequence (stub-up) includes validating the socket and creating
receive (rx) and transmit (tx) threads to talk to the client to provide
access to the exported device. rx and tx threads depends on local and
shared state to be correct and in sync.
Unexport (stub-down) sequence shuts the socket down and stops the rx and
tx threads. Stub-down sequence relies on local and shared states to be
in sync.
There are races in updating the local and shared status in the current
stub-up sequence resulting in crashes. These stem from starting rx and
tx threads before local and global state is updated correctly to be in
sync.
1. Doesn't handle kthread_create() error and saves invalid ptr in local
state that drives rx and tx threads.
2. Updates tcp_socket and sockfd, starts stub_rx and stub_tx threads
before updating usbip_device status to SDEV_ST_USED. This opens up a
race condition between the threads and usbip_sockfd_store() stub up
and down handling.
Fix the above problems:
- Stop using kthread_get_run() macro to create/start threads.
- Create threads and get task struct reference.
- Add kthread_create() failure handling and bail out.
- Hold usbip_device lock to update local and shared states after
creating rx and tx threads.
- Update usbip_device status to SDEV_ST_USED.
- Update usbip_device tcp_socket, sockfd, tcp_rx, and tcp_tx
- Start threads after usbip_device (tcp_socket, sockfd, tcp_rx, tcp_tx,
and status) is complete.
Credit goes to syzbot and Tetsuo Handa for finding and root-causing the
kthread_get_run() improper error handling problem and others. This is a
hard problem to find and debug since the races aren't seen in a normal
case. Fuzzing forces the race window to be small enough for the
kthread_get_run() error path bug and starting threads before updating the
local and shared state bug in the stub-up sequence.

Add kcov_remote_start()/kcov_remote_stop() annotations to the
vhci_rx_loop() function, which is responsible for parsing USB/IP packets
coming into USB/IP client.
Since vhci_rx_loop() threads are spawned per vhci_hcd device instance, the
common kcov handle is used for kcov_remote_start()/stop() annotations
(see Documentation/dev-tools/kcov.rst for details). As the result kcov
can now be used to collect coverage from vhci_rx_loop() threads.

The usage of in_interrupt() in drivers is phased out and Linus clearly
requested that code which changes behaviour depending on context should
either be separated or the context be conveyed in an argument passed by the
caller, which usually knows the context.
usbip_recv() uses in_interrupt() to conditionally print context information
for debugging messages. The value is zero as the function is only called
from various *_rx_loop() kthread functions. Remove it.

This commit reverts commit 7a2f2974f265 ("usbip: Implement a match
function to fix usbip").
In summary, commit d5643d2249b2 ("USB: Fix device driver race")
inadvertently broke usbip functionality, which I resolved in an incorrect
manner by introducing a match function to usbip, usbip_match(), that
unconditionally returns true.
However, the usbip_match function, as is, causes usbip to take over
virtual devices used by syzkaller for USB fuzzing, which is a regression
reported by Andrey Konovalov.
Furthermore, in conjunction with the fix of another bug, handled by another
patch titled "usbcore/driver: Fix specific driver selection" in this patch
set, the usbip_match function causes unexpected USB subsystem behaviour
when the usbip_host driver is loaded. The unexpected behaviour can be
qualified as follows:
- If commit 41160802ab8e ("USB: Simplify USB ID table match") is included
in the kernel, then all USB devices are bound to the usbip_host
driver, which appears to the user as if all USB devices were
disconnected.
- If the same commit (41160802ab8e) is not in the kernel (as is the case
with v5.8.10) then all USB devices are re-probed and re-bound to their
original device drivers, which appears to the user as a disconnection
and re-connection of USB devices.
Please note that this commit will make usbip non-operational again,
until yet another patch in this patch set is merged, titled
"usbcore/driver: Accommodate usbip".

Commit 88b7381a939d ("USB: Select better matching USB drivers when
available") introduced the use of a "match" function to select a
non-generic/better driver for a particular USB device. This
unfortunately breaks the operation of usbip in general, as reported in
the kernel bugzilla with bug 208267 (linked below).
Upon inspecting the aforementioned commit, one can observe that the
original code in the usb_device_match function used to return 1
unconditionally, but the aforementioned commit makes the usb_device_match
function use identifier tables and "match" virtual functions, if either of
them are available.
Hence, this commit implements a match function for usbip that
unconditionally returns true to ensure that usbip is functional again.
This change has been verified to restore usbip functionality, with a
v5.7.y kernel on an up-to-date version of Qubes OS 4.0, which uses
usbip to redirect USB devices between VMs.
Thanks to Jonathan Dieter for the effort in bisecting this issue down
to the aforementioned commit.

b) 7 spaces + '---help---'
c) 8 spaces + '---help---'
d) 1 space + 1 tab + '---help---'
e) 1 tab + '---help---' (correct indentation)
f) 1 tab + 1 space + '---help---'
g) 1 tab + 2 spaces + '---help---'
In order to convert all of them to 1 tab + 'help', I ran the
following commend:
$ find . -name 'Kconfig*' | xargs sed -i 's/^[[:space:]]*---help---/\thelp/'

If a transaction error happens in vhci_recv_ret_submit(), event
handler closes connection and changes port status to kick hub_event.
Then hub tries to flush the endpoint URBs, but that causes infinite
loop between usb_hub_flush_endpoint() and vhci_urb_dequeue() because
"vhci_priv" in vhci_urb_dequeue() was already released by
vhci_recv_ret_submit() before a transmission error occurred. Thus,
vhci_urb_dequeue() terminates early and usb_hub_flush_endpoint()
continuously calls vhci_urb_dequeue().
The root cause of this issue is that vhci_recv_ret_submit()
terminates early without giving back URB when transaction error
occurs in vhci_recv_ret_submit(). That causes the error URB to still
be linked at endpoint list without “vhci_priv".
So, in the case of transaction error in vhci_recv_ret_submit(),
unlink URB from the endpoint, insert proper error code in
urb->status and give back URB.

When vhci uses SG and receives data whose size is smaller than SG
buffer size, it tries to receive more data even if it acutally
receives all the data from the server. If then, it erroneously adds
error event and triggers connection shutdown.
vhci-hcd should check if it received all the data even if there are
more SG entries left. So, check if it receivces all the data from
the server in for_each_sg() loop.
