The use of "rcu_assign_pointer()" is NULLing out the pointer. According to RCU_INIT_POINTER()'s block comment: "1. This use of RCU_INIT_POINTER() is NULLing out the pointer" it is better to use it instead of rcu_assign_pointer() because it has a smaller overhead. 2014-06-07tcm_fc: Generate TASK_SET_FULL status for response failuresNicholas Bellinger1-3/+16
This patch changes ft_queue_status() to set SAM_STAT_TASK_SET_FULL status upon lport->tt.seq_send( failure, and return -EAGAIN to notify target-core to attempt to requeue the response. It also does the same for a fc_frame_alloc() failures, in order to signal the initiator that it should try to reduce it's current queue_depth, to lower the number of outstanding I/Os on the wire. 2014-06-07tcm_fc: Generate TASK_SET_FULL status for DataIN failuresNicholas Bellinger1-2/+15
This patch changes ft_queue_data_in() to set SAM_STAT_TASK_SET_FULL status upon a lport->tt.seq_send() failure, where it will now stop sending subsequent DataIN, and immediately attempt to send the response with exception status. Sending a response with SAM_STAT_TASK_SET_FULL status is useful in order to signal the initiator that it should try to reduce it's current queue_depth, to lower the number of outstanding I/Os on the wire. Also, add a check to skip sending DataIN if TASK_SET_FULL status has already been set due to a response lport->tt.seq_send() failure, that has asked target-core to requeue a response. 2014-05-16tcm_fc: Fix free-after-use regression in ft_free_cmdNicholas Bellinger1-4/+4
This patch fixes a free-after-use regression in ft_free_cmd(), where ft_sess_put() is called with cmd->sess after percpu_ida_free() has already released the tag. Fix this bug by saving the ft_sess pointer ahead of percpu_ida_free(), and pass it directly to ft_sess_put(). 2014-04-12target/tcm_fc: Fix use-after-free of ft_tpgAndy Grover1-0/+1
ft_del_tpg checks tpg->tport is set before unlinking the tpg from the tport when the tpg is being removed. Set this pointer in ft_tport_create, or the unlinking won't happen in ft_del_tpg and tport->tpg will reference a deleted object. This patch sets tpg->tport in ft_tport_create, because that's what ft_del_tpg checks, and is the only way to get back to the tport to clear tport->tpg. The bug was occuring when: - lport created, tport (our per-lport, per-provider context) is allocated. tport->tpg = NULL - tpg created - a PRLI is received. ft_tport_create is called, tpg is found and tport->tpg is set - tpg removed. ft_tpg is freed in ft_del_tpg. Since tpg->tport was not set, tport->tpg is not cleared and points at freed memory - Future calls to ft_tport_create return tport via first conditional, instead of searching for new tpg by calling ft_lport_find_tpg. tport->tpg is still invalid, and will access freed memory. see https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1071340 Cc: stable@vger.kernel.org # 3.0+ Signed-off-by: Andy Grover <agrover@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Nicholas Bellinger <nab@linux-iscsi.org>
2014-04-07target: Pass in transport supported PI at session initializationNicholas Bellinger1-1/+2
In order to support local WRITE_INSERT + READ_STRIP operations for non PI enabled fabrics, the fabric driver needs to be able signal what protection offload operations are supported. This is done at session initialization time so the modes can be signaled by individual se_wwn + se_portal_group endpoints, as well as optionally across different transports on the same endpoint. For iser-target, set TARGET_PROT_ALL if the underlying ib_device has already signaled PI offload support, and allow this to be exposed via a new iscsit_transport->iscsit_get_sup_prot_ops() callback. For loopback, set TARGET_PROT_ALL to signal SCSI initiator mode operation. For all other drivers, set TARGET_PROT_NORMAL to disable fabric level PI. Cc: Martin K. 2014-04-07target: Add TFO->abort_task for aborted task resources releaseNicholas Bellinger3-0/+7
Now that TASK_ABORTED status is not generated for all cases by TMR ABORT_TASK + LUN_RESET, a new TFO->abort_task() caller is necessary in order to give fabric drivers a chance to unmap hardware / software resources before the se_cmd descriptor is released via the normal TFO->release_cmd() codepath. This patch adds TFO->aborted_task() in core_tmr_abort_task() in place of the original transport_send_task_abort(), and also updates all fabric drivers to implement this caller. The fabric drivers that include changes to perform cleanup via ->aborted_task() are: - iscsi-target - iser-target - srpt - tcm_qla2xxx The fabric drivers that currently set ->aborted_task() to NOPs are: - loopback - tcm_fc - usb-gadget - sbp-target - vhost-scsi For the latter five, there appears to be no additional cleanup required before invoking TFO->release_cmd() to release the se_cmd descriptor. v2 changes: - Move ->aborted_task() call into transport_cmd_finish_abort (Alex) Cc: Alex Leung <amleung21@yahoo.com> Cc: Mark Rustad <mark.d.rustad@intel.com> Cc: Roland Dreier <roland@kernel.org> Cc: Vu Pham <vu@mellanox.com> Cc: Chris Boot <bootc@bootc.net> Cc: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <bigeasy@linutronix.de> Cc: Michael S. 2013-10-02tcm_fc: Convert to per-cpu command map pre-allocation of ft_cmdNicholas Bellinger3-5/+17
This patch converts tcm_fc to use transport_init_session_tags() pre-allocation logic for struct ft_cmd descriptors using per-cpu session tag pooling in order to effectively avoid memory allocation + release for each received I/O. It adds percpu_ida_alloc() in ft_recv_cmd() to obtain an tag and locate ft_cmd from se_sess->sess_cmd_map[], and percpu_ida_free() in ft_free_cmd() to release the tag based upon se_cmd->map_tag id. It also uses a TCM_FC_DEFAULT_TAGS value of 512, that puts the per se_sess->sess_cmd_map allocation at ~360K on 64-bit. v2 changes: - Handle possible tag < 0 failure with GFP_ATOMIC Cc: Mark Rustad <mark.d.rustad@intel.com> Cc: Robert Love <robert.w.love@intel.com> Cc: Kent Overstreet <kmo@daterainc.com> Signed-off-by: Nicholas Bellinger <nab@daterainc.com>

2013-02-28hlist: drop the node parameter from iteratorsSasha Levin1-8/+4
I'm not sure why, but the hlist for each entry iterators were conceived list_for_each_entry(pos, head, member) The hlist ones were greedy and wanted an extra parameter: hlist_for_each_entry(tpos, pos, head, member) Why did they need an extra pos parameter? I'm not quite sure. Not only they don't really need it, it also prevents the iterator from looking exactly like the list iterator, which is unfortunate. Besides the semantic patch, there was some manual work required: - Fix up the actual hlist iterators in linux/list.h - Fix up the declaration of other iterators based on the hlist ones. - A very small amount of places were using the 'node' parameter, this was modified to use 'obj->member' instead. - Coccinelle didn't handle the hlist_for_each_entry_safe iterator properly, so those had to be fixed up manually. 2012-12-13target/tcm_fc: fix the lockdep warning due to inconsistent lock stateYi Zou1-1/+1
The lockdep warning below is in theory correct but it will be in really weird rare situation that ends up that deadlock since the tcm fc session is hashed based the rport id. Nonetheless, the complaining below is about rcu callback that does the transport_deregister_session() is happening in softirq, where transport_register_session() that happens earlier is not. This triggers the lockdep warning below. So, just fix this to make lockdep happy by disabling the soft irq before calling transport_register_session() in ft_prli. BTW, this was found in FCoE VN2VN over two VMs, couple of create and destroy would get this triggered. v1: was enforcing register to be in softirq context which was not righ. See, http://www.spinics.net/lists/target-devel/msg03614.html v2: following comments from Roland&Nick (thanks), it seems we don't have to do transport_deregister_session() in rcu callback, so move it into ft_sess_free() but still do kfree() of the corresponding ft_sess struct in rcu callback to make sure the ft_sess is not freed till the rcu callback. ... 2012-09-18target: Simplify fabric sense data length handlingRoland Dreier1-6/+0
Every fabric driver has to supply a se_tfo->set_fabric_sense_len() method, just so iSCSI can return an offset of 2. However, every fabric driver is already allocating a sense buffer and passing it into the target core, either via transport_init_se_cmd() or target_submit_cmd(). So instead of having iSCSI pass the start of its sense buffer into the core and then later tell the core to skip the first 2 bytes, it seems easier for iSCSI just to do the offset of 2 when it passes the sense buffer into the core. Then we can drop the se_tfo->set_fabric_sense_len() everywhere, and just add a couple of lines of code to iSCSI to set the sense data length to the beginning of the buffer right before it sends it over the network. (nab: Remove .set_fabric_sense_len usage from tcm_qla2xxx_npiv_ops + change transport_get_sense_buffer to follow v3.6-rc6 code w/o ->set_fabric_sense_len usage) Signed-off-by: Roland Dreier <roland@purestorage.com> Signed-off-by: Nicholas Bellinger <nab@linux-iscsi.org>

2012-07-18target: Allow for target_submit_cmd() returning errorsRoland Dreier1-3/+5
We want it to be possible for target_submit_cmd() to return errors up to its fabric module callers. For now just update the prototype to return an int, and update all callers to handle non-zero return values as an error. This is immediately useful for tcm_qla2xxx to fix a long-standing active I/O session shutdown race, but tcm_fc, usb-gadget, and sbp-target the fabric maintainers need to check + ACK that handling a target_submit_cmd() failure due to session shutdown does not introduce regressions (nab: Respin against for-next after initial NACK + update docbook comment + fix double se_cmd init in exception path for usb-gadget) Cc: Chad Dupuis <chad.dupuis@qlogic.com> Cc: Arun Easi <arun.easi@qlogic.com> Cc: Chris Boot <bootc@bootc.net> Cc: Stefan Richter <stefanr@s5r6.in-berlin.de> Cc: Mark Rustad <mark.d.rustad@intel.com> Cc: Sebastian Andrzej Siewior <bigeasy@linutronix.de> Cc: Felipe Balbi <balbi@ti.com> Cc: Andy Grover <agrover@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Roland Dreier <roland@purestorage.com> Signed-off-by: Nicholas Bellinger <nab@linux-iscsi.org>

2012-07-15tcm_fc: Fix crash seen with aborts and large readsMark Rustad1-0/+2
This patch fixes a crash seen when large reads have their exchange aborted by either timing out or being reset. Because the exchange abort results in the seq pointer being set to NULL, because the sequence is no longer valid, it must not be dereferenced. This patch changes the function ft_get_task_tag to return ~0 if it is unable to get the tag for this reason. Because the get_task_tag interface provides no means of returning an error, this seems like the best way to fix this issue at the moment. 2012-04-07tcm_fc: Add abort flag for gracefully handling exchange timeoutMark Rustad3-2/+11
Add abort flag and use it to terminate processing when an exchange is timed out or is reset. The abort flag is used in place of the transport_generic_free_cmd function call in the reset and timeout cases, because calling that function in that context would free memory that was in use. The aborted flag allows the lifetime to be managed in a more normal way, while truncating the processing.
