2008-10-28sh: Kill off long-dead HD64465 cchip support.Paul Mundt1-939/+0
This code has been dead for many years. The last update it received was in 2003 in order to update it for the driver model changes, though it had already been in disarray and unused before that point. The only boards that ever used this chip have not had users in many years either, so it is finally safe to just kill it off and move on with life. Signed-off-by: Paul Mundt <lethal@linux-sh.org>
2008-10-16generic: sparse irqs: use irq_desc() together with dyn_array, instead of ↵Yinghai Lu1-3/+9
irq_desc[] add CONFIG_HAVE_SPARSE_IRQ to for use condensed array. Get rid of irq_desc[] array assumptions. Preallocate 32 irq_desc, and irq_desc() will try to get more. ( No change in functionality is expected anywhere, except the odd build failure where we missed a code site or where a crossing commit itroduces new irq_desc[] usage. ) v2: according to Eric, change get_irq_desc() to irq_desc() Signed-off-by: Yinghai Lu <yhlu.kernel@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Ingo Molnar <mingo@elte.hu>
2008-08-26pcmcia: cs_internal.h is internalDominik Brodowski1-1/+0
cs_internal.h is meant for definitions internal to the PCMCIA core modules. It must not be included by PCMCIA socket drivers or by PCMCIA device drivers. Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2008-06-24pcmcia: remove unused bulkmem.hMagnus Damm1-1/+0
The code in include/pcmcia/bulkmem.h was only kept for compatibility reasons. Therefore, move the remaining region_info_t definition to ds.h [linux@dominikbrodowski.net: do not modify the IOCTL, move definition to ds.h, and update changelog] Signed-off-by: Magnus Damm <damm@opensource.se> Signed-off-by: Dominik Brodowski <linux@dominikbrodowski.net>
2008-06-24pcmcia: remove CVS keywordsAdrian Bunk1-2/+0

2007-02-24Driver core: more fallout from class_device changes for pcmciaManuel Lauss1-1/+1
More fallout from the PCMCIA class_device changes. The first hunk is run-tested on SH-4, the others are converted in the spirit of the original conversion. Signed-off-by: Manuel Lauss <mano@roarinelk.homelinux.net> Signed-off-by: Greg Kroah-Hartman <gregkh@suse.de>
2006-10-06Various drivers' irq handlers: kill dead code, needless castsJeff Garzik1-4/+3
- Eliminate casts to/from void* - Eliminate checks for conditions that never occur. These typically fall into two classes: 1) Checking for 'dev_id == NULL', then it is never called with NULL as an argument. 2) Checking for invalid irq number, when the only caller (the system) guarantees the irq handler is called with the proper 'irq' number argument. 2006-10-05IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlersDavid Howells1-1/+1
Maintain a per-CPU global "struct pt_regs *" variable which can be used instead of passing regs around manually through all ~1800 interrupt handlers in the Linux kernel. The regs pointer is used in few places, but it potentially costs both stack space and code to pass it around. On the FRV arch, removing the regs parameter from all the genirq function results in a 20% speed up of the IRQ exit path (ie: from leaving timer_interrupt() to leaving do_IRQ()). Where appropriate, an arch may override the generic storage facility and do something different with the variable. On FRV, for instance, the address is maintained in GR28 at all times inside the kernel as part of general exception handling. Having looked over the code, it appears that the parameter may be handed down through up to twenty or so layers of functions. Consider a USB character device attached to a USB hub, attached to a USB controller that posts its interrupts through a cascaded auxiliary interrupt controller. A character device driver may want to pass regs to the sysrq handler through the input layer which adds another few layers of parameter passing. I've build this code with allyesconfig for x86_64 and i386. I've runtested the main part of the code on FRV and i386, though I can't test most of the drivers. I've also done partial conversion for powerpc and MIPS - these at least compile with minimal configurations. This will affect all archs. Mostly the changes should be relatively easy. Take do_IRQ(), store the regs pointer at the beginning, saving the old one: struct pt_regs *old_regs = set_irq_regs(regs); And put the old one back at the end: set_irq_regs(old_regs); Don't pass regs through to generic_handle_irq() or __do_IRQ(). In timer_interrupt(), this sort of change will be necessary: - update_process_times(user_mode(regs)); - profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING, regs); + update_process_times(user_mode(get_irq_regs())); + profile_tick(CPU_PROFILING); I'd like to move update_process_times()'s use of get_irq_regs() into itself, except that i386, alone of the archs, uses something other than user_mode(). Some notes on the interrupt handling in the drivers: (*) input_dev() is now gone entirely. The regs pointer is no longer stored in the input_dev struct. (*) finish_unlinks() in drivers/usb/host/ohci-q.c needs checking. It does something different depending on whether it's been supplied with a regs pointer or not. (*) Various IRQ handler function pointers have been moved to type irq_handler_t. 2006-06-29[PATCH] genirq: rename desc->handler to desc->chipIngo Molnar1-3/+3
This patch-queue improves the generic IRQ layer to be truly generic, by adding various abstractions and features to it, without impacting existing functionality. While the queue can be best described as "fix and improve everything in the generic IRQ layer that we could think of", and thus it consists of many smaller features and lots of cleanups, the one feature that stands out most is the new 'irq chip' abstraction. The irq-chip abstraction is about describing and coding and IRQ controller driver by mapping its raw hardware capabilities [and quirks, if needed] in a straightforward way, without having to think about "IRQ flow" (level/edge/etc.) type of details. This stands in contrast with the current 'irq-type' model of genirq architectures, which 'mixes' raw hardware capabilities with 'flow' details. The patchset supports both types of irq controller designs at once, and converts i386 and x86_64 to the new irq-chip design. As a bonus side-effect of the irq-chip approach, chained interrupt controllers (master/slave PIC constructs, etc.) are now supported by design as well. The end result of this patchset intends to be simpler architecture-level code and more consolidation between architectures. We reused many bits of code and many concepts from Russell King's ARM IRQ layer, the merging of which was one of the motivations for this patchset. This patch: rename desc->handler to desc->chip. Originally i did not want to do this, because it's a big patch. But having both "desc->handler", "desc->handle_irq" and "action->handler" caused a large degree of confusion and made the code appear alot less clean than it truly is. I have also attempted a dual approach as well by introducing a desc->chip alias - but that just wasnt robust enough and broke frequently. So lets get over with this quickly. The conversion was done automatically via scripts and converts all the code in the kernel. This renaming patch is the first one amongst the patches, so that the remaining patches can stay flexible and can be merged and split up without having some big monolithic patch act as a merge barrier. 2005-10-28[PATCH] DRIVER MODEL: Get rid of the obsolete tri-level suspend/resume callbacksRussell King1-18/+2
In PM v1, all devices were called at SUSPEND_DISABLE level. Then all devices were called at SUSPEND_SAVE_STATE level, and finally SUSPEND_POWER_DOWN level. However, with PM v2, to maintain compatibility for platform devices, I arranged for the PM v2 suspend/resume callbacks to call the old PM v1 suspend/resume callbacks three times with each level in order so that existing drivers continued to work. Since this is obsolete infrastructure which is no longer necessary, we can remove it. Here's an (untested) patch to do exactly that. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
