2009-06-13net: use symbolic values for ndo_start_xmit() return codesPatrick McHardy2-3/+3
Convert magic values 1 and -1 to NETDEV_TX_BUSY and NETDEV_TX_LOCKED respectively. 0 (NETDEV_TX_OK) is not changed to keep the noise down, except in very few cases where its in direct proximity to one of the other values. 2009-06-13net: fix network drivers ndo_start_xmit() return values (part 2)Patrick McHardy6-24/+9
Fix up IRDA drivers that return an errno value to qdisc_restart(), causing qdisc_restart() to print a warning an requeue/retransmit the skb. - donauboe: intention appears to be to have the skb retransmitted without error message - irda-usb: intention is to drop silently according to comment - kingsub-sir: skb is freed: use after free - ks959-sir: skb is freed: use after free - ksdazzle-sir: skb is freed: use after free - mcs7880: skb is freed: use after free All but donauboe compile tested. 2009-03-31proc 2/2: remove struct proc_dir_entry::ownerAlexey Dobriyan1-7/+0
Setting ->owner as done currently (pde->owner = THIS_MODULE) is racy as correctly noted at bug #12454. Someone can lookup entry with NULL ->owner, thus not pinning enything, and release it later resulting in module refcount underflow. We can keep ->owner and supply it at registration time like ->proc_fops and ->data. But this leaves ->owner as easy-manipulative field (just one C assignment) and somebody will forget to unpin previous/pin current module when switching ->owner. ->proc_fops is declared as "const" which should give some thoughts. ->read_proc/->write_proc were just fixed to not require ->owner for protection. rmmod'ed directories will be empty and return "." and ".." -- no harm. And directories with tricky enough readdir and lookup shouldn't be modular. We definitely don't want such modular code. Removing ->owner will also make PDE smaller. So, let's nuke it. Kudos to Jeff Layton for reminding about this, let's say, oversight. http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12454 Signed-off-by: Alexey Dobriyan <adobriyan@gmail.com>

2009-03-09[ARM] pxa: separate definitions from pxa-regs.h and remove it finallyEric Miao1-2/+1
The remaining registers are separated into: - <mach/regs-ost.h> - <mach/regs-rtc.h> - <mach/regs-intc.h> and then we can remove pxa-regs.h completely. Instead of #include this file, let's: 1. include the specific <mach/regs-*.h> with care (if that's absolutely necessary) 2. define the registers in the driver, make cleanly defined API to expose the register access to external with sufficient reason Signed-off-by: Eric Miao <eric.miao@marvell.com>

2008-11-29[ARM] Hide ISA DMA API when ISA_DMA_API is unsetRussell King1-1/+1
When ISA_DMA_API is unset, we're not implementing the ISA DMA API, so there's no point in publishing the prototypes via asm/dma.h, nor including the machine dependent parts of that API. This allows us to remove a lot of mach/dma.h files which don't contain any useful code. Unfortunately though, some platforms put their own private non-ISA definitions into mach/dma.h, so we leave these behind and fix the appropriate #include statments. 2008-11-13netdevice: safe convert to netdev_priv() #part-2Wang Chen9-79/+79
We have some reasons to kill netdev->priv: 1. netdev->priv is equal to netdev_priv(). 2. netdev_priv() wraps the calculation of netdev->priv's offset, obviously netdev_priv() is more flexible than netdev->priv. But we cann't kill netdev->priv, because so many drivers reference to it directly. This patch is a safe convert for netdev->priv to netdev_priv(netdev). Since all of the netdev->priv is only for read. But it is too big to be sent in one mail. I split it to 4 parts and make every part smaller than 100,000 bytes, which is max size allowed by vger. 2008-11-04drivers/net: Kill now superfluous ->last_rx stores.David S. Miller13-17/+0
The generic packet receive code takes care of setting netdev->last_rx when necessary, for the sake of the bonding ARP monitor. Drivers need not do it any more.
