There is currently one error path where the function exits directly, which leads to a leak of the runtime PM reference. Make sure that this error path also releases the runtime PM reference. This was happening due to NACK interrupt triggering ISR thread before register access interrupt was ready. 2023-04-20i2c: ocores: generate stop condition after timeout in polling modeGregor Herburger1-16/+19
[ Upstream commit f8160d3b35fc94491bb0cb974dbda310ef96c0e2 ] In polling mode, no stop condition is generated after a timeout. This causes SCL to remain low and thereby block the bus. If this happens during a transfer it can cause slaves to misinterpret the subsequent transfer and return wrong values. To solve this, pass the ETIMEDOUT error up from ocores_process_polling() instead of setting STATE_ERROR directly. The caller is adjusted to call ocores_process_timeout() on error both in polling and in IRQ mode, which will set STATE_ERROR and generate a stop condition. 2023-03-30i2c: hisi: Only use the completion interrupt to finish the transferYicong Yang1-1/+5

Currently we use either error or completion interrupt to finish, this may result the completion interrupt unhandled and corrupt the next transfer, especially at low speed mode. Since on error case, the error interrupt will come first then is the completion interrupt. So only use the completion interrupt to finish the whole transfer process. 2023-03-30i2c: mxs: ensure that DMA buffers are safe for DMAMatthias Schiffer1-5/+13
[ Upstream commit 5190417bdf72c71b65bd9892103c6186816a6e8b ] We found that after commit 9c46929e7989 ("ARM: implement THREAD_INFO_IN_TASK for uniprocessor systems"), the PCF85063 RTC driver stopped working on i.MX28 due to regmap_bulk_read() reading bogus data into a stack buffer. This is caused by the i2c-mxs driver using DMA transfers even for messages without the I2C_M_DMA_SAFE flag, and the aforementioned commit enabling vmapped stacks. As the MXS I2C controller requires DMA for reads of >4 bytes, DMA can't be disabled, so the issue is fixed by using i2c_get_dma_safe_msg_buf() to create a bounce buffer when needed. Unfortunately the TDF (transmit data flag) is enabled when Tx FIFO entries is equal or less than watermark. So it is set in every case, hence the reset default of 1. This results in the MSR_RDF _and_ MSR_TDF flags to be set thus trying to send Tx data on a read message. Mask the IRQ status to filter for wanted flags only. 2023-02-01i2c: designware: Fix unbalanced suspended flagRichard Fitzgerald1-18/+2
[ Upstream commit 75507a319876aba88932e2c7dab58b6c22d89f6b ] Ensure that i2c_mark_adapter_suspended() is always balanced by a call to i2c_mark_adapter_resumed(). dw_i2c_plat_resume() must always be called, so that i2c_mark_adapter_resumed() is called. This is not compatible with DPM_FLAG_MAY_SKIP_RESUME, so remove the flag. Since the controller is always resumed on system resume the dw_i2c_plat_complete() callback is redundant and has been removed. The unbalanced suspended flag was introduced by commit c57813b8b288 ("i2c: designware: Lock the adapter while setting the suspended flag") Before that commit, the system and runtime PM used the same functions. The DPM_FLAG_MAY_SKIP_RESUME was used to skip the system resume if the driver had been in runtime-suspend. If system resume was skipped, the suspended flag would be cleared by the next runtime resume. The check of the suspended flag was _after_ the call to pm_runtime_get_sync() in i2c_dw_xfer(). So either a system resume or a runtime resume would clear the flag before it was checked. Having introduced the unbalanced suspended flag with that commit, a further commit 80704a84a9f8 ("i2c: designware: Use the i2c_mark_adapter_suspended/resumed() helpers") changed from using a local suspended flag to using the i2c_mark_adapter_suspended/resumed() functions. These use a flag that is checked by I2C core code before issuing the transfer to the bus driver, so there was no opportunity for the bus driver to runtime resume itself before the flag check. For example in our use case where ic_clk is larger than one million, multiplication of ic_clk * 4700 will result in 32 bit overflow. Add cast of u64 to the calculation to avoid multiplication overflow, and use the corresponding define for divide. 2022-12-02i2c: imx: Only DMA messages with I2C_M_DMA_SAFE flag setAndrew Lunn1-2/+4
Recent changes to the DMA code has resulting in the IMX driver failing I2C transfers when the buffer has been vmalloc. Only perform DMA transfers if the message has the I2C_M_DMA_SAFE flag set, indicating the client is providing a buffer which is DMA safe. This is a minimal fix for stable. The I2C core provides helpers to allocate a bounce buffer. For a fuller fix the master should make use of these helpers. 2022-12-02i2c: cadence: Fix regression with bus recoveryCarsten Haitzler1-3/+8
Commit "i2c: cadence: Add standard bus recovery support" breaks for i2c devices that have no pinctrl defined. There is no requirement for this to exist in the DT. This has worked perfectly well without this before in at least 1 real usage case on hardware (Mali Komeda DPU, Cadence i2c to talk to a tda99xx phy). Adding the requirement to have pinctrl set up in the device tree (or otherwise be found) is a regression where the whole i2c device is lost entirely (in this case dropping entire devices which then leads to the drm display stack unable to find the phy for display output, thus having no drm display device and so on down the chain). This converts the above commit to an enhancement if pinctrl can be found for the i2c device, providing a timeout on read with recovery, but if not, do what used to be done rather than a fatal loss of a device. This restores the mentioned display devices to their working state again. 2022-11-14i2c: Restore initial power state if probe failsRicardo Ribalda1-4/+5
A driver that supports I2C_DRV_ACPI_WAIVE_D0_PROBE is not expected to power off a device that it has not powered on previously. For devices operating in "full_power" mode, the first call to `i2c_acpi_waive_d0_probe` will return 0, which means that the device will be turned on with `dev_pm_domain_attach`. If probe fails the second call to `i2c_acpi_waive_d0_probe` will return 1, which means that the device will not be turned off. This is, it will be left in a different power state. Lets fix it. A problem about i2c-npcm7xx create debugfs failed is triggered with the following log given: [ 173.827310] debugfs: Directory 'npcm_i2c' with parent '/' already present! The reason is that npcm_i2c_init() returns platform_driver_register() directly without checking its return value, if platform_driver_register() failed, it returns without destroy the newly created debugfs, resulting the debugfs of npcm_i2c can never be created later. npcm_i2c_init() debugfs_create_dir() # create debugfs directory platform_driver_register() driver_register() bus_add_driver() priv = kzalloc(...) # OOM happened # return without destroy debugfs directory Fix by removing debugfs when platform_driver_register() returns error. 2022-11-01i2c: tegra: Allocate DMA memory for DMA engineThierry Reding1-6/+10
When the I2C controllers are running in DMA mode, it is the DMA engine that performs the memory accesses rather than the I2C controller. Pass the DMA engine's struct device pointer to the DMA API to make sure the correct DMA operations are used. This fixes an issue where the DMA engine's SMMU stream ID needs to be misleadingly set for the I2C controllers in device tree. 2022-11-01i2c: piix4: Fix adapter not be removed in piix4_remove()Chen Zhongjin1-0/+1
In piix4_probe(), the piix4 adapter will be registered in: piix4_probe() piix4_add_adapters_sb800() / piix4_add_adapter() i2c_add_adapter() Based on the probed device type, piix4_add_adapters_sb800() or single piix4_add_adapter() will be called. For the former case, piix4_adapter_count is set as the number of adapters, while for antoher case it is not set and kept default *zero*. When piix4 is removed, piix4_remove() removes the adapters added in piix4_probe(), basing on the piix4_adapter_count value. Because the count is zero for the single adapter case, the adapter won't be removed and makes the sources allocated for adapter leaked, such as the i2c client and device. These sources can still be accessed by i2c or bus and cause problems. 2022-10-19i2c: qcom-cci: Fix ordering of pm_runtime_xx and i2c_add_adapterBryan O'Donoghue1-5/+8
When we compile-in the CCI along with the imx412 driver and run on the RB5 we see that i2c_add_adapter() causes the probe of the imx412 driver to happen. This probe tries to perform an i2c xfer() and the xfer() in i2c-qcom-cci.c fails on pm_runtime_get() because the i2c-qcom-cci.c::probe() function has not completed to pm_runtime_enable(dev). Fix this sequence by ensuring pm_runtime_xxx() calls happen prior to adding the i2c adapter. 2022-10-05i2c: designware: Fix handling of real but unexpected device interruptsJarkko Nikula2-2/+18
Commit c7b79a752871 ("mfd: intel-lpss: Add Intel Alder Lake PCH-S PCI IDs") caused a regression on certain Gigabyte motherboards for Intel Alder Lake-S where system crashes to NULL pointer dereference in i2c_dw_xfer_msg() when system resumes from S3 sleep state ("deep"). I was able to debug the issue on Gigabyte Z690 AORUS ELITE and made following notes: - Issue happens when resuming from S3 but not when resuming from "s2idle" - PCI device 00:15.0 == i2c_designware.0 is already in D0 state when system enters into pci_pm_resume_noirq() while all other i2c_designware PCI devices are in D3. Devices were runtime suspended and in D3 prior entering into suspend - Interrupt comes after pci_pm_resume_noirq() when device interrupts are re-enabled - According to register dump the interrupt really comes from the i2c_designware.0. Controller is enabled, I2C target address register points to a one detectable I2C device address 0x60 and the DW_IC_RAW_INTR_STAT register START_DET, STOP_DET, ACTIVITY and TX_EMPTY bits are set indicating completed I2C transaction. My guess is that the firmware uses this controller to communicate with an on-board I2C device during resume but does not disable the controller before giving control to an operating system. I was told the UEFI update fixes this but never the less it revealed the driver is not ready to handle TX_EMPTY (or RX_FULL) interrupt when device is supposed to be idle and state variables are not set (especially the dev->msgs pointer which may point to NULL or stale old data). Introduce a new software status flag STATUS_ACTIVE indicating when the controller is active in driver point of view. Now treat all interrupts that occur when is not set as unexpected and mask all interrupts from the controller. Device tree already has a mechanism to pass the wake_irq. It does this by looking for the wakeup-source property and setting the I2C_CLIENT_WAKE flag. This CL adds the ACPI equivalent. It uses the ACPI interrupt wake flag to determine if the interrupt can be used to wake the system. Previously the i2c drivers had to make assumptions and blindly enable the wake IRQ. This can cause spurious wake events. e.g., If there is a device with an Active Low interrupt and the device gets powered off while suspending, the interrupt line will go low since it's no longer powered and wakes the system. For this reason we should respect the board designers wishes and honor the wake bit defined on the interrupt. 2022-10-02i2c: i801: Prefer async probeMani Milani1-0/+1
This i801 driver probe can take more than ~190ms in some devices, since the "i2c_register_spd()" call was added inside "i801_probe_optional_slaves()". Prefer async probe so that other drivers can be probed and boot can continue in parallel while this driver loads, to reduce boot time. There is no reason to block other drivers from probing while this driver is loading.
