2007-10-16kbuild: enable 'make CPPFLAGS=...' to add additional options to CPPSam Ravnborg1-1/+1
The variable CPPFLAGS is a wellknown variable and the usage by kbuild may result in unexpected behaviour. This patch replace use of CPPFLAGS with KBUILD_CPPFLAGS all over the tree and enabling one to use: make CPPFLAGS=... to specify additional CPP commandline options. 2007-10-11[NET]: Make the device list and device lookups per namespace.Eric W. Biederman1-1/+1
This patch makes most of the generic device layer network namespace safe. This patch makes dev_base_head a network namespace variable, and then it picks up a few associated variables. The functions: dev_getbyhwaddr dev_getfirsthwbytype dev_get_by_flags dev_get_by_name __dev_get_by_name dev_get_by_index __dev_get_by_index dev_ioctl dev_ethtool dev_load wireless_process_ioctl were modified to take a network namespace argument, and deal with it. vlan_ioctl_set and brioctl_set were modified so their hooks will receive a network namespace argument. So basically anthing in the core of the network stack that was affected to by the change of dev_base was modified to handle multiple network namespaces. The rest of the network stack was simply modified to explicitly use &init_net the initial network namespace. This can be fixed when those components of the network stack are modified to handle multiple network namespaces. For now the ifindex generator is left global. Fundametally ifindex numbers are per namespace, or else we will have corner case problems with migration when we get that far. At the same time there are assumptions in the network stack that the ifindex of a network device won't change. Making the ifindex number global seems a good compromise until the network stack can cope with ifindex changes when you change namespaces, and the like. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2007-07-12PCI: Change all drivers to use pci_device->revisionAuke Kok5-40/+12
Instead of all drivers reading pci config space to get the revision ID, they can now use the pci_device->revision member. This exposes some issues where drivers where reading a word or a dword for the revision number, and adding useless error-handling around the read. Some drivers even just read it for no purpose of all. In devices where the revision ID is being copied over and used in what appears to be the equivalent of hotpath, I have left the copy code and the cached copy as not to influence the driver's performance. Compile tested with make all{yes, mod}config on x86_64 and i386. 2007-07-06potential compiler error, irqfunc caller sites updateYoann Padioleau1-1/+1
In 7d12e780e003f93433d49ce78cfedf4b4c52adc5 David Howells performed this evolution: "IRQ: Maintain regs pointer globally rather than passing to IRQ handlers" He correctly updated many of the function definitions that were using this extra regs pointer parameter but forgot to update some caller sites of those functions. The reason the modifications was not properly done on all drivers is that some drivers were rarely compiled because they are for AMIGA, or that some code sites were inside #ifdefs where the option is not set or inside #if 0. Here is the semantic patch that found the occurences and fixed the problem. @ rule1 @ identifier fn; identifier irq, dev_id; typedef irqreturn_t; @@ static irqreturn_t fn(int irq, void *dev_id) { ... } @@ identifier rule1.fn; expression E1, E2, E3; @@ fn(E1, E2 - ,E3 ) Signed-off-by: Yoann Padioleau <padator@wanadoo.fr> Cc: "David S. 2007-06-28Fix Kconfig dependency problems wrt boolean menuconfigsTrent Piepho1-1/+1
If one has a dependency chain (tristate)FOO depends on (bool)BAR depends on (tristate)BAZ, build problems will result. If BAZ=m, then BAR can be set y, which allows FOO=y. It's possible to have FOO=y && BAZ=m, which wouldn't be allowed if FOO depended directly on BAZ. In effect, the bool promotes the tristate from m to y. This ends up causing a problem with several menuconfigs that look like: menuconfig BAR bool depends on BAZ [tristate] if BAR config FOO tristate endif The solution used here is to add the dependencies of BAR to the if statement, so that items in the if block will gain a direct non-bool-promoted dependency on BAZ. This is how it would work if a menu was used instead of an if block. Signed-off-by: Trent Piepho <xyzzy@speakeasy.org> Acked-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab@infradead.org> Cc: "David S. 2007-06-04[ATM]: Fix warning.Jeff Garzik1-4/+11
The compiler warning drivers/atm/firestream.c: In function ‘top_off_fp’: drivers/atm/firestream.c:1505: warning: cast to pointer from integer of different size does indicate a bug, albeit a minor one. Fixed, by using a 32-bit temporary prior to the call to bus_to_virt(). The larger bug is still present: the entire driver assumes that machine pointers are 32-bit, as it stores pointers in 32-bit hardware registers. This is obvious to anyone who knows the driver well, but for the casual readers it is helpfully noted with FIXME. Signed-off-by: Jeff Garzik <jeff@garzik.org> Signed-off-by: David S. 2007-05-03PCI: Cleanup the includes of <linux/pci.h>Jean Delvare1-1/+0
I noticed that many source files include <linux/pci.h> while they do not appear to need it. Here is an attempt to clean it all up. In order to find all possibly affected files, I searched for all files including <linux/pci.h> but without any other occurence of "pci" or "PCI". I removed the include statement from all of these, then I compiled an allmodconfig kernel on both i386 and x86_64 and fixed the false positives manually. My tests covered 66% of the affected files, so there could be false positives remaining.
