2020-11-27powerpc/dma: Fallback to dma_ops when persistent memory presentAlexey Kardashevskiy1-2/+69
So far we have been using huge DMA windows to map all the RAM available. The RAM is normally mapped to the VM address space contiguously, and there is always a reasonable upper limit for possible future hot plugged RAM which makes it easy to map all RAM via IOMMU. Now there is persistent memory ("ibm,pmemory" in the FDT) which (unlike normal RAM) can map anywhere in the VM space beyond the maximum RAM size and since it can be used for DMA, it requires extending the huge window up to MAX_PHYSMEM_BITS which requires hypervisor support for: 1. huge TCE tables; 2. multilevel TCE tables; 3. huge IOMMU pages. Certain hypervisors cannot do either so the only option left is restricting the huge DMA window to include only RAM and fallback to the default DMA window for persistent memory. This defines arch_dma_map_direct/etc to allow generic DMA code perform additional checks on whether direct DMA is still possible. This checks if the system has persistent memory. If it does not, the DMA bypass mode is selected, i.e. * dev->bus_dma_limit = 0 * dev->dma_ops_bypass = true <- this avoid calling dma_ops for mapping. If there is such memory, this creates identity mapping only for RAM and sets the dev->bus_dma_limit to let the generic code decide whether to call into the direct DMA or the indirect DMA ops. This should not change the existing behaviour when no persistent memory as dev->dma_ops_bypass is expected to be set. This API is the equivalent of alloc_pages, except that the returned memory is guaranteed to be DMA addressable by the passed in device. The implementation will also be used to provide a more sensible replacement for DMA_ATTR_NON_CONSISTENT flag. Additionally dma_alloc_noncoherent is switched over to use dma_alloc_pages as its backend. 2020-09-08powerpc/dma: Fix dma_map_ops::get_required_maskAlexey Kardashevskiy1-1/+2
There are 2 problems with it: 1. "<" vs expected "<<" 2. the shift number is an IOMMU page number mask, not an address mask as the IOMMU page shift is missing. This did not hit us before f1565c24b596 ("powerpc: use the generic dma_ops_bypass mode") because we had additional code to handle bypass mask so this chunk (almost?) never executed.However there were reports that aacraid does not work with "iommu=nobypass". After f1565c24b596, aacraid (and probably others which call dma_get_required_mask() before setting the mask) was unable to enable 64bit DMA and fall back to using IOMMU which was known not to work, one of the problems is double free of an IOMMU page. This fixes DMA for aacraid, both with and without "iommu=nobypass" in the kernel command line. Verified with "stress-ng -d 4". 2020-07-19powerpc: use the generic dma_ops_bypass modeChristoph Hellwig1-81/+9
Use the DMA API bypass mechanism for direct window mappings. This uses common code and speed up the direct mapping case by avoiding indirect calls just when not using dma ops at all. It also fixes a problem where the sync_* methods were using the bypass check for DMA allocations, but those are part of the streaming ops. Note that this patch loses the DMA_ATTR_WEAK_ORDERING override, which has never been well defined, as is only used by a few drivers, which IIRC never showed up in the typical Cell blade setups that are affected by the ordering workaround. 2019-09-04dma-mapping: explicitly wire up ->mmap and ->get_sgtableChristoph Hellwig1-0/+2
While the default ->mmap and ->get_sgtable implementations work for the majority of our dma_map_ops impementations they are inherently safe for others that don't use the page allocator or CMA and/or use their own way of remapping not covered by the common code. So remove the defaults if these methods are not wired up, but instead wire up the default implementations for all safe instances. 2019-08-19powerpc/iommu: Allow bypass-only for DMAAlexey Kardashevskiy1-6/+5
POWER8 and newer support a bypass mode which maps all host memory to PCI buses so an IOMMU table is not always required. However if we fail to create such a table, the DMA setup fails and the kernel does not boot. This skips the 32bit DMA setup check if the bypass is selected. The commit 8617a5c5bc00 ("powerpc/dma: handle iommu bypass in dma_iommu_ops") merged direct DMA ops into the IOMMU DMA ops allowing SWIOTLB as well but only for mapping; the unmapping and bouncing parts were left unmodified. This adds missing direct unmapping calls to .unmap_page() and .unmap_sg(). This adds missing sync callbacks and directs them to the direct DMA hooks. vio_dma_mapping_ops currently does a lot of indirect calls through dma_iommu_ops, which not only make the code harder to follow but are also expensive in the post-spectre world. Unwind the indirect calls by calling the ppc_iommu_* or iommu_* APIs directly applicable, or just use the dma_iommu_* methods directly where we can. 2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no licenseGreg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. 2016-08-04dma-mapping: use unsigned long for dma_attrsKrzysztof Kozlowski1-6/+6
The dma-mapping core and the implementations do not change the DMA attributes passed by pointer. Thus the pointer can point to const data. However the attributes do not have to be a bitfield. Instead unsigned long will do fine: 1. This is just simpler. Both in terms of reading the code and setting attributes. Instead of initializing local attributes on the stack and passing pointer to it to dma_set_attr(), just set the bits. 2. It brings safeness and checking for const correctness because the attributes are passed by value. Commit 9adc5374 ('common: dma-mapping: introduce mmap method') added a generic method for implementing mmap user call to dma_map_ops structure. This patch converts ARM and PowerPC architectures (the only providers of dma_mmap_coherent/dma_mmap_writecombine calls) to use this generic dma_map_ops based call and adds a generic cross architecture definition for dma_mmap_attrs, dma_mmap_coherent, dma_mmap_writecombine functions. The generic mmap virt_to_page-based fallback implementation is provided for architectures which don't provide their own implementation for mmap method. Now that the generic code has dma_map_ops set, instead of having a messy ifdef & if block in the base dma_get_required_mask hook push the computation into the dma ops. If the ops fails to set the get_required_mask hook default to the width of dma_addr_t. This also corrects ibmbus ibmebus_dma_supported to require a 64 bit mask. I doubt anything is checking or setting the dma mask on that bus. 2011-09-01powerpc: Override dma_get_required_mask by platform hook and opsMilton Miller1-0/+13
The hook dma_get_required_mask is supposed to return the mask required by the platform to operate efficently. The generic version of dma_get_required_mask in driver/base/platform.c returns a mask based only on max_pfn. However, this is likely too big for iommu systems and could be too small for platforms that require a dma offset or have a secondary window at a high offset. Override the default, provide a hook in ppc_md used by pseries lpar and cell, and provide the default answer based on memblock_end_of_DRAM(), with hooks for get_dma_offset, and provide an implementation for iommu that looks at the defined table size. Coverting from the end address to the required bit mask is based on the generic implementation. The need for this was discovered when the qla2xxx driver switched to 64 bit dma then reverted to 32 bit when dma_get_required_mask said 32 bits was sufficient. The IOMMU code has been passing the dma-mask instead of the coherent_dma_mask to the iommu allocator. Coherent allocations should be made using the coherent_dma_mask. Also update the vio code to ensure the coherent_dma_mask is set. Without this change drivers, such as ibmvscsi, fail to load with the corrected dma_iommu_alloc_coherent(). 2008-10-31powerpc: Update remaining dma_mapping_ops to use map/unmap_pageMark Nelson1-18/+16
After the merge of the 32 and 64bit DMA code, dma_direct_ops lost their map/unmap_single() functions but gained map/unmap_page(). This caused a problem for Cell because Cell's dma_iommu_fixed_ops called the dma_direct_ops if the fixed linear mapping was to be used or the iommu ops if the dynamic window was to be used. So in order to fix this problem we need to update the 64bit DMA code to use map/unmap_page. First, we update the generic IOMMU code so that iommu_map_single() becomes iommu_map_page() and iommu_unmap_single() becomes iommu_unmap_page(). Then we propagate these changes up through all the callers of these two functions and in the process update all the dma_mapping_ops so that they have map/unmap_page rahter than map/unmap_single. We can do this because on 64bit there is no HIGHMEM memory so map/unmap_page ends up performing exactly the same function as map/unmap_single, just taking different arguments. This has no affect on drivers because the dma_map_single_attrs() just ends up calling the map_page() function of the appropriate dma_mapping_ops and similarly the dma_unmap_single_attrs() calls unmap_page(). This fixes an oops on Cell blades, which oops on boot without this because they call dma_direct_ops.map_single, which is NULL.
