2012-05-16[PARISC] fix panic on prefetch(NULL) on PA7300LCJames Bottomley1-1/+6
Due to an errata, the PA7300LC generates a TLB miss interruption even on the prefetch instruction. This means that prefetch(NULL), which is supposed to be a nop on linux actually generates a NULL deref fault. Fix this by testing the address of prefetch against NULL before doing the prefetch. 2012-05-16[PARISC] fix crash in flush_icache_page_asm on PA1.1John David Anglin1-18/+20
As pointed out by serveral people, PA1.1 only has a type 26 instruction meaning that the space register must be explicitly encoded. Not giving an explicit space means that the compiler uses the type 24 version which is PA2.0 only resulting in an illegal instruction crash. This was defined in asm/pdc.h which needs to include asm/page.h for __PAGE_OFFSET. This leads to an include loop so that page.h eventually will include pdc.h again. 2012-05-06TTY: pdc_cons, fix regression in closeJiri Slaby1-1/+1
The test in pdc_console_tty_close '!tty->count' was always wrong because tty->count is decremented after tty->ops->close is called and thus can never be zero. Hence the 'then' branch was never executed and the timer never deleted. This did not matter until commit 5dd5bc40f3b6 ("TTY: pdc_cons, use tty_port"). There we needed to set TTY in tty_port to NULL, but this never happened due to the bug above. So change the test to really trigger at the last close by changing the condition to 'tty->count == 1'. Well, the driver should not touch tty->count at all. It should use tty_port->count and count open count there itself. Same code, except: The alignment of init_thread_union is handled via the linker script, so no point to have it with the data structure. The extra asm(".data") looks like a leftover from an asm to C conversion and is pointless. Use the generic version. Commit b4816afa3986 ("Move the asm-generic/system.h xchg() implementation to asm-generic/cmpxchg.h") introduced the concept of asm/cmpxchg.h but the parisc arch never got one. I've built all the working defconfigs from all the arches that I can and made sure that they don't break. The reason for these patches is that I recently encountered a circular dependency problem that came about when I produced some patches to optimise get_order() by rewriting it to use ilog2(). This uses bitops - and on the SH arch asm/bitops.h drags in asm-generic/get_order.h by a circuituous route involving asm/system.h. The main difficulty seems to be asm/system.h. It holds a number of low level bits with no/few dependencies that are commonly used (eg. memory barriers) and a number of bits with more dependencies that aren't used in many places (eg. switch_to()). These patches break asm/system.h up into the following core pieces: (1) asm/barrier.h Move memory barriers here. This already done for MIPS and Alpha. (2) asm/switch_to.h Move switch_to() and related stuff here. (3) asm/exec.h Move arch_align_stack() here. Other process execution related bits could perhaps go here from asm/processor.h. (4) asm/cmpxchg.h Move xchg() and cmpxchg() here as they're full word atomic ops and frequently used by atomic_xchg() and atomic_cmpxchg(). (5) asm/bug.h Move die() and related bits. (6) asm/auxvec.h Move AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH here. Other arch headers are created as needed on a per-arch basis." Fixed up some conflicts from other header file cleanups and moving code around that has happened in the meantime, so David's testing is somewhat weakened by that. As a band-aid, kernel.h was including <asm/bug.h> to pseudo link them. This has caused confusion[1] and general yuck/WTF[2] reactions. With the above in mind, the goals of this changeset are: 1) find and fix any include/*.h files that were relying on the implicit presence of BUG code. 2) find and fix any C files that were consuming kernel.h and hence relying on implicitly getting some/all BUG code. 3) Move the BUG related code living in kernel.h to <linux/bug.h> 4) remove the asm/bug.h from kernel.h to finally break the chain. During development, the order was more like 3-4, build-test, 1-2. But to ensure that git history for bisect doesn't get needless build failures introduced, the commits have been reorderd to fix the problem areas in advance. Since we no longer need the VM_ALWAYSDUMP flag, let's use the freed bit for 'VM_NODUMP' flag. The idea is is to add a new madvise() flag: MADV_DONTDUMP, which can be set by applications to specifically request memory regions which should not dump core. The specific application I have in mind is qemu: we can add a flag there that wouldn't dump all of guest memory when qemu dumps core. This flag might also be useful for security sensitive apps that want to absolutely make sure that parts of memory are not dumped. To clear the flag use: MADV_DODUMP. This one specifies where to start MSG_PEEK-ing queue data from. When set to negative value means that MSG_PEEK works as ususally -- peeks from the head of the queue always. When some bytes are peeked from queue and the peeking offset is non negative it is moved forward so that the next peek will return next portion of data. When non-peeking recvmsg occurs and the peeking offset is non negative is is moved backward so that the next peek will still peek the proper data (i.e. the one that would have been picked if there were no non peeking recv in between). The offset is set using per-proto opteration to let the protocol handle the locking issues and to check whether the peeking offset feature is supported by the protocol the socket belongs to.
