2009-09-20kbuild: use INSTALLKERNEL to select customized installkernel scriptSam Ravnborg1-2/+2
Replace the use of CROSS_COMPILE to select a customized installkernel script with the possibility to set INSTALLKERNEL to select a custom installkernel script when running make: make INSTALLKERNEL=arm-installkernel install With this patch we are now more consistent across different architectures - they did not all support use of CROSS_COMPILE. The use of CROSS_COMPILE was a hack as this really belongs to gcc/binutils and the installkernel script does not change just because we change toolchain. The use of CROSS_COMPILE caused troubles with an upcoming patch that saves CROSS_COMPILE when a kernel is built - it would no longer be installable. [Thanks to Peter Z. for this hint] This patch undos what Ian did in commit: 0f8e2d62fa04441cd12c08ce521e84e5bd3f8a46 ("use ${CROSS_COMPILE}installkernel in arch/*/boot/install.sh") The patch has been lightly tested on x86 only - but all changes looks obvious. 2009-03-31parisc: add ftrace (function and graph tracer) functionalityHelge Deller1-1/+3
This patch adds the ftrace debugging functionality to the parisc kernel. It will currently only work with 64bit kernels, because the gcc options -pg and -ffunction-sections can't be enabled at the same time and -ffunction-sections is still needed to be able to link 32bit kernels. 2008-03-16[PARISC] move defconfig to arch/parisc/configs/Adrian Bunk1-0/+3
This patch moves the default parisc defconfig to arch/parisc/configs/generic_defconfig where it belongs and selects it as the default defconfig through KBUILD_DEFCONFIG. Signed-off-by: Adrian Bunk <adrian.bunk@movial.fi> Signed-off-by: Kyle McMartin <kyle@mcmartin.ca>
2007-12-06Revert "[PARISC] import necessary bits of libgcc.a"Kyle McMartin1-1/+1
This reverts commit efb80e7e097d0888e59fbbe4ded2ac5a256f556d, it turned out to cause sporadic problems with the timer interrupt on 32-bit kernels. Needs more investigation. Signed-off-by: Kyle McMartin <kyle@mcmartin.ca>

2007-10-18[PARISC] import necessary bits of libgcc.aKyle McMartin1-1/+1
Currently we're hacking libs-y to include libgcc.a, but this has unforeseen consequences since the userspace libgcc is linked with fpregs enabled. We need the kernel to stop using fpregs in an uncontrolled manner to implement lazy fpu state saves. Signed-off-by: Kyle McMartin <kyle@mcmartin.ca>
2007-10-15kbuild: enable 'make CFLAGS=...' to add additional options to CCSam Ravnborg1-1/+1
The variable CFLAGS is a wellknown variable and the usage by kbuild may result in unexpected behaviour. On top of that several people over time has asked for a way to pass in additional flags to gcc. This patch replace use of CFLAGS with KBUILD_CFLAGS all over the tree and enabling one to use: make CFLAGS=... to specify additional gcc commandline options. One usecase is when trying to find gcc bugs but other use cases has been requested too. Patch was tested on following architectures: alpha, arm, i386, x86_64, mips, sparc, sparc64, ia64, m68k Test was simple to do a defconfig build, apply the patch and check that nothing got rebuild. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
