2020-04-14media: docs: add an uAPI chapter for driver-specific stuffMauro Carvalho Chehab8-928/+0
There are some uAPI stuff that are driver-specific. Add them to the main media uAPI body. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org>
2020-04-14media: docs: move driver-specific info to driver-apiMauro Carvalho Chehab19-5539/+0
Those documents don't really describe the driver API. Instead, they contain development-specific information. Yet, as the main index file describes the content of it as: "how specific kernel subsystems work from the point of view of a kernel developer" It seems to be the better fit. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org>
2020-04-14media: docs: move user-facing docs to the admin guideMauro Carvalho Chehab57-12306/+2
Most of the driver-specific documentation is meant to help users of the media subsystem. Move them to the admin-guide. It should be noticed, however, that several of those files are outdated and will require further work in order to make them useful again. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org>
2020-04-14media: docs: move fourcc file to the uAPI documentMauro Carvalho Chehab2-33/+0
This file gives a hint about how fourcc should be named. It is on a very weird place, as such kind of thing belongs to the uAPI guide. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org>
2020-04-14media: docs: kAPI docs: move them to driver-apiMauro Carvalho Chehab35-4370/+2
All those documents describe the media driver API. So, move them to the right place within the Kernel documentation. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org>
2020-04-14media: docs: move uAPI book to userspace-api/mediaMauro Carvalho Chehab456-81522/+1
Since 2017, there is an space reserved for userspace API, created by changeset 1d596dee3862 ("docs: Create a user-space API guide"). As the media subsystem was one of the first subsystems to use Sphinx, until this patch, we were keeping things on a separate place. Let's just use the new location, as having all uAPI altogether will likely make things easier for developers. Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org>

2020-03-21docs: prevent warnings due to autosectionlabelMauro Carvalho Chehab1-4/+4
Changeset 58ad30cf91f0 ("docs: fix reference to core-api/namespaces.rst") enabled a new feature at Sphinx: it will now generate index for each document title, plus to each chapter inside it. There's a drawback, though: one document cannot have two sections with the same name anymore. A followup patch will change the logic of autosectionlabel to avoid most creating references for every single section title, but still we need to be able to reference the chapters inside a document. There are a few places where there are two chapters with the same name. This patch renames one of the chapters, in order to avoid symbol conflict within the same document. PS.: as I don't speach Chinese, I had some help from a friend (Wen Liu) at the Chinese translation for "publishing patches" for this document: Documentation/translations/zh_CN/process/5.Posting.rst Fixes: 58ad30cf91f0 ("docs: fix reference to core-api/namespaces.rst") Signed-off-by: Mauro Carvalho Chehab <mchehab+huawei@kernel.org> Link: https://lore.kernel.org/r/2bffb91e4a63d41bf5fae1c23e1e8b3bba0b8806.1584716446.git.mchehab+huawei@kernel.org Signed-off-by: Jonathan Corbet <corbet@lwn.net>

2020-03-02media: Split v4l2_pipeline_pm_use into v4l2_pipeline_pm_{get, put}Ezequiel Garcia1-1/+1
Currently, v4l2_pipeline_pm_use() prototype is: int v4l2_pipeline_pm_use(struct media_entity *entity, int use) Where the 'use' argument shall only be set to '1' for enable/power-on, or to '0' for disable/power-off. The integer return is specified as only meaningful when 'use' is set to '1'. Let's enforce this semantic by splitting the function in two: v4l2_pipeline_pm_get and v4l2_pipeline_pm_put. This is done for several reasons. It makes the API easier to use (or harder to misuse). It removes the constraint on the values the 'use' argument shall take. Also, it removes the need to constraint the return value, by making v4l2_pipeline_pm_put void return. And last, it's more consistent with other kernel APIs, such as the runtime pm APIs, which makes the code more symmetric. 2020-03-02media: uapi: h264: Add DPB entry field reference flagsJonas Karlman1-0/+16
Using the field information attached to v4l2 buffers is not enough to determine the type of field referenced by a DPB entry: the decoded frame might contain the full picture (both top and bottom fields) but the reference only point to one of them. Let's add new V4L2_H264_DPB_ENTRY_FLAG_ flags to express that. 2020-02-24media: Documentation/media/uapi: more readable unionsHans Verkuil19-260/+153
Avoid adding an extra columns when describing unions in the documentation. That makes it much harder to read. See e.g. VIDIOC_QUERY_EXT_CTRLS. Instead start off a union with 'union {' and end it with an extra row containing '}'. This leaves a lot more space for the description of the fields. This formatting technique was used in a few places already, but this patches fixes all remaining occurrences of 'union' in the media uAPI. 2020-02-24media: rename VFL_TYPE_GRABBER to _VIDEOHans Verkuil1-2/+2
We currently have the following devnode types: enum vfl_devnode_type { VFL_TYPE_GRABBER = 0, VFL_TYPE_VBI, VFL_TYPE_RADIO, VFL_TYPE_SUBDEV, VFL_TYPE_SDR, VFL_TYPE_TOUCH, VFL_TYPE_MAX /* Shall be the last one */ }; They all make sense, except for the first: GRABBER really refers to /dev/videoX devices, which can be capture, output or m2m, so 'grabber' doesn't even refer to their function anymore. Let's call a spade a spade and rename this to VFL_TYPE_VIDEO. It has been decided to use the ENUM_FMT index value as a hint for driver preference. This is defined purposedly in a very liberal way, letting drivers define what "preference" means. It is the vfrontporch of field 1 that is one half-line longer, not the backporch. The order of the vertical signals in an interlaced system is: Field 1: vsync vbackporch active video of field 1 vfrontporch + 0.5 Field 2: il_vsync il_vbackporch - 0.5 active video of field 2 il_vfrontporch Interlaced systems that use HALF_LINE set the il_ fields as follows: il_vfrontporch = vfrontporch il_vsync = vsync il_vbackporch = vbackporch + 1 So the total vertical blanking for field 1 is: vsync + vbackporch + vfrontporch + 0.5 and for field 2: vsync + vbackporch + 1 + vfrontporch - 0.5 == vsync + vbackporch + vfrontporch + 0.5 So each field has the same number of half-lines.
