2024-08-26i2c: testunit: add SMBusAlert triggerWolfram Sang1-0/+48
To test SMBusAlert handlers, let the testunit be able to trigger SMBusAlert interrupts. This new command needs a GPIO connected to the SMBAlert# line. Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa+renesas@sang-engineering.com>
2024-08-26i2c: testunit: describe fwnode based instantiationWolfram Sang1-0/+12
The testunit can also be instantiated via firmware nodes. Give a devicetree node as an example. Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa+renesas@sang-engineering.com>
2024-08-14i2c: testunit: return current command on read messagesWolfram Sang1-6/+8
Because the testunit can start tests in the future via the DELAY register, it may happen that a command is still pending. Support detecting that by returning the number of a command in progress (if there is one). Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa+renesas@sang-engineering.com>
2024-08-14i2c: testunit: add command to support versioning and test rep_startWolfram Sang1-0/+38
For some devices, it is essential that controllers handle repeated start correctly and do not replace it with a stop/start combination. This addition helps to test that because it will only return a version string if repeated start is done properly. Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa+renesas@sang-engineering.com>
2024-08-14i2c: testunit: use decimal values in docs when appropriateWolfram Sang1-5/+5
Sometimes decimal values are just shorter (like for cmds), sometimes they are even easier to understand (like for the delay value). Make use of them. Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa+renesas@sang-engineering.com>
2024-07-13Merge tag 'i2c-host-6.11' of ↵Wolfram Sang1-0/+1
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/andi.shyti/linux into i2c/for-mergewindow This release includes significant updates, with the primary change being the renaming from "master/slave" to "controller/target" to adhere to I2C v7 and SMBus 3.2 standards. New Support: - Added support for Intel Arrow Lake-H. - Added I2C support in the Arioha SoC by linking the Mediatek I2C controller. Cleanups: - Added the MODULE_DESCRIPTION() macro, resolving a modpost warning in the ALi 1563 Southbridge driver. - Constified the regmap_config declaration in the i2c-designware driver. - Improved the coding style in the Renesas R-Car driver by removing unnecessary semicolons after brackets. General improvements: - In the OMAP device, replaced NOIRQ_SYSTEM_SLEEP_PM_OPS with RUNTIME_PM_OPS to enable waking up the controller during suspend() before suspend_noirq() kicks in. - Improved logging in the Xilinx driver. - Added a warning (WARN()) in the Renesas R-Car driver for spurious interrupts. DTS Changes: - Removed address-cell and size-cell from the Atmel at91sam, nVidia Tegra 20, and Samsung S3c2410 devices. - Fixed Texas Instruments OMAP4 I2C controller to comply with the i2c-controller.yaml schema. - Improved indentation in DTS examples for several I2C devices. - Converted the NXP LPC1788 binding to the dt-schema. - Added documentation for the compatible string thead,th1520-i2c. - Added the "power-domains" property for the Meson I2C driver.
2024-07-10i2c: add debug message for detected HostNotify alertsWolfram Sang1-0/+5
Setting up HostNotify can be tricky. Support debugging by stating when a HostNotify alert was received independent of the irq being mapped. Especially useful with the in-kernel i2c testunit. 2023-07-14media: i2c: add I2C Address Translator (ATR) supportLuca Ceresoli2-0/+97
An ATR is a device that looks similar to an i2c-mux: it has an I2C slave "upstream" port and N master "downstream" ports, and forwards transactions from upstream to the appropriate downstream port. But it is different in that the forwarded transaction has a different slave address. The address used on the upstream bus is called the "alias" and is (potentially) different from the physical slave address of the downstream chip. Add a helper file (just like i2c-mux.c for a mux or switch) to allow implementing ATR features in a device driver. The helper takes care of adapter creation/destruction and translates addresses at each transaction. The sequence of sections is a bit confusing here: * we list the mux locking scheme for existing drivers before introducing what mux locking schemes are * we list the caveats for each locking scheme (which are tricky) before the example of the simple use case Restructure it entirely with the following logic: * Intro ("I2C muxes and complex topologies") * Locking - mux-locked - example - caveats - parent-locked - example - caveats * Complex examples * Mux type of existing device drivers While there, also apply some other improvements: * convert the caveat list from a table (with only one column carrying content) to a bullet list. * add a small introductory text to bridge the gap from listing the use cases to telling about the hardware components to handle them and then the device drivers that implement those. * make empty lines usage more uniform Signed-off-by: Luca Ceresoli <luca.ceresoli@bootlin.com> Acked-by: Peter Rosin <peda@axentia.se> Signed-off-by: Wolfram Sang <wsa@kernel.org>

2022-08-16i2c: Make remove callback return voidUwe Kleine-König1-1/+1
The value returned by an i2c driver's remove function is mostly ignored. (Only an error message is printed if the value is non-zero that the error is ignored.) So change the prototype of the remove function to return no value. This way driver authors are not tempted to assume that passing an error to the upper layer is a good idea. All drivers are adapted accordingly. There is no intended change of behaviour, all callbacks were prepared to return 0 before.
