2017-07-14IPMI.txt: standardize document formatMauro Carvalho Chehab1-32/+44
Each text file under Documentation follows a different format. Some doesn't even have titles! Change its representation to follow the adopted standard, using ReST markups for it to be parseable by Sphinx: - fix document type; - add missing markups for subitems; - mark literal blocks; - add whitespaces and blank lines where needed; - use bulleted list markups where neded. 2015-11-16ipmi watchdog : add panic_wdt_timeout parameterJean-Yves Faye1-2/+5
In order to allow panic actions to be processed, the ipmi watchdog driver sets a new timeout value on panic. The 255s timeout was designed to allow kdump and others actions on panic, as in http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/0711.3/0258.html This is counter-intuitive for a end-user who sets watchdog timeout value to something like 30s and who expects BMC to reset the system within 30s of a panic. This commit allows user to configure the timeout on panic. Signed-off-by: Jean-Yves Faye <jean-yves.faye@c-s.fr> Signed-off-by: Corey Minyard <cminyard@mvista.com>
2015-05-05ipmi:ssif: Ignore spaces when comparing I2C adapter namesCorey Minyard1-1/+4
Some of the adapters have spaces in their names, but that's really hard to pass in as a module or kernel parameters. So ignore the spaces. Signed-off-by: Corey Minyard <cminyard@mvista.com>

2012-10-17IPMI: Remove SMBus driver info from the docsCorey Minyard1-62/+3
Some documentation for the SMBus driver is in the IPMI docs, but that code is not in the kernel tree at this point. So remove the docs to avoid confusion. Signed-off-by: Corey Minyard <cminyard@mvista.com> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2010-03-13ipmi: add parameter to limit CPU usage in kipmidMartin Wilck1-0/+12
In some cases kipmid can use a lot of CPU. This adds a way to tune the CPU used by kipmid to help in those cases. By setting kipmid_max_busy_us to a value between 100 and 500, it is possible to bring down kipmid CPU load to practically 0 without loosing too much ipmi throughput performance. Not setting the value, or setting the value to zero, operation is unaffected. 2007-10-19IPMI: new NMI handlingCorey Minyard1-3/+5
Convert over to the new NMI handling for getting IPMI watchdog timeouts via an NMI. This add config options to know if there is the ability to receive NMIs and if it has an NMI post processing call. Then it modifies the IPMI watchdog to take advantage of this so that it can know if an NMI comes in. It also adds testing that the IPMI NMI watchdog works. 2006-12-07[PATCH] IPMI: system interface hotplugCorey Minyard1-0/+25
Add the ability to hot add and remove interfaces in the ipmi_si driver. Any users who have the device open will get errors if they try to send a message. Signed-off-by: Corey Minyard <minyard@acm.org> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@osdl.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>
2006-12-07[PATCH] IPMI: Allow hot system interface removeCorey Minyard1-1/+8
This modifies the IPMI driver so that a lower-level interface can be dynamically removed while in use so it can support hot-removal of hardware. It also adds the ability to specify and dynamically change the IPMI interface the watchdog timer and the poweroff code use. 2006-10-03[PATCH] IPMI: allow user to override the kernel IPMI daemon enableCorey Minyard1-1/+9
After the previous patch to disable the kernel IPMI daemon if interrupts were available, the issue of broken hardware was raised, and a reasonable request to add an override was mode. So here it is. Allow the user to force the kernel ipmi daemon on or off. This way, hardware with broken interrupts or users that are not concerned with performance can turn it on or off to their liking. 2006-10-01[PATCH] IPMI: per-channel command registrationCorey Minyard1-3/+6
This patch adds the ability to register for a command per-channel in the IPMI driver. If your BMC supports multiple channels, incoming messages can be useful to have the ability to register to receive commands on a specific channel instead the current behaviour of all channels. 2005-09-08[PATCH] ipmi poweroff: fix chassis controlCorey Minyard1-6/+7
The IPMI power control function proc_write_chassctrl was badly written, it directly used userspace pointers, it assumed that strings were NULL terminated, and it used the evil sscanf function. This converts over to using the sysctl interface for this data and changes the semantics to be a little more logical. 2005-06-24[PATCH] ipmi: add power cycle capabilityCorey Minyard1-0/+20
This patch to adds "power cycle" functionality to the IPMI power off module ipmi_poweroff. It also contains changes to support procfs control of the feature. The power cycle action is considered an optional chassis control in the IPMI specification. However, it is definitely useful when the hardware supports it. A power cycle is usually required in order to reset a firmware in a bad state. This action is critical to allow remote management of servers. The implementation adds power cycle as optional to the ipmi_poweroff module. It can be modified dynamically through the proc entry mentioned above. During a power down and enabled, the power cycle command is sent to the BMC firmware. If it fails either due to non-support or some error, it will retry to send the command as power off. 2005-04-17Linux-2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds1-0/+534
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
