David Vrabel says: ==================== xen-netfront: multi-queue related locking fixes Two fixes to the per-queue locking bugs in xen-netfront that were introduced in 3.16-rc1 with the multi-queue support. ==================== Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2014-07-08xen-netfront: call netif_carrier_off() only once when disconnectingDavid Vrabel1-7/+4
In xennet_disconnect_backend(), netif_carrier_off() was called once per queue when it needs to only be called once. The queue locking around the netif_carrier_off() call looked very odd. I think they were supposed to synchronize any NAPI instances with the expectation that no further NAPI instances would be scheduled because of the carrier being off (see the check in xennet_rx_interrupt()). But I can't easily tell if this works correctly. Instead, add a napi_synchronize() call after disabling the interrupts. This is obviously correct as with no Rx interrupts, no further NAPI instances will be scheduled. Signed-off-by: David Vrabel <david.vrabel@citrix.com> Signed-off-by: David S. 2014-07-08xen-netfront: don't nest queue locks in xennet_connect()David Vrabel1-4/+12
The nesting of the per-queue rx_lock and tx_lock in xennet_connect() is confusing to both humans and lockdep. The locking is safe because this is the only place where the locks are nested in this way but lockdep still warns. Instead of adding the missing lockdep annotations, refactor the locking to avoid the confusing nesting. This is still safe, because the xenbus connection state changes are all serialized by the xenwatch thread. 2014-07-08arm64: implement TASK_SIZE_OFColin Cross1-0/+2
include/linux/sched.h implements TASK_SIZE_OF as TASK_SIZE if it is not set by the architecture headers. TASK_SIZE uses the current task to determine the size of the virtual address space. On a 64-bit kernel this will cause reading /proc/pid/pagemap of a 64-bit process from a 32-bit process to return EOF when it reads past 0xffffffff. Implement TASK_SIZE_OF exactly the same as TASK_SIZE with test_tsk_thread_flag instead of test_thread_flag. mode command. This patch fixes the dma state machine lockup due to the processing of IDENTIFY DEVICE PIO mode command. The X-Gene AHCI controller has an errata in which it cannot clear the BSY bit after the PIO setup FIS. The dma state machine enters CMFatalErrorUpdate state and locks up. This patch also removes the dma restart workaround from the read_id function as the read_id function is only called by libata layer for ATA_INTERNAL commands. 2014-07-08ARM: mvebu: Fix coherency bus notifiers by using separate notifiersEzequiel Garcia1-1/+5
Currently, the coherency fabric support registers two bus notifiers; one for platform, one for pci bus types, with the same notifier block. However, this is illegal and can cause serious issues: the notifier block is also a link in the notifier list and cannot be inserted twice. This commit fixes this by using different notifier blocks (with the same notifier callback) to set the platform and pci bus types notifiers. 2014-07-08ARM: mvebu: Fix the operand list in the inline asm of ↵Gregory CLEMENT1-5/+5
armada_370_xp_pmsu_idle_enter In the inline asm part of the function armada_370_xp_pmsu_idle_enter() the input operand was used. The intent here was to let the compiler choose this register so it could do the optimization it needed. However an input operand is not supposed to be modified by the inline asm code. This can lead to improper generated instructions. In some case generated instruction the compiler made the choice to reuse the same register to store the return value. But in the assembly part this register was modified, so it can lead to return an wrong value. The fix is to use a clobber. Thanks to this the compiler will know that the value of this register will be modified. This patch uses abstract file IO and acpi_log_error() APIs to enhance cm_get_file_size() so that applications that invoke this API could have portability improved. With actual references added to abstract file IO and acpi_log_error(), the applications need to link oslibcfs.o, utdebug.o, utexcep.o, utmath.o, utprint.o and utxferror.o. 2014-07-08ACPICA: Application: Enhance ACPI_USAGE_xxx/ACPI_OPTION with ↵Lv Zheng2-6/+9
acpi_os_printf() to improve portability This patch enhances ACPI_USAGE_xxx/ACPI_OPTION macros to use portable acpi_os_printf() so that usage functions for applications no longer rely on the printf() API. To use acpi_os_printf() exported by osunixxf.c as a replacement of printf(), applications need to initialize acpi_gbl_output_file to stdout and initialize acpi_gbl_db_output_flags to ACPI_DB_CONSOLE_OUTPUT. The latter is automatically done by ACPI_INIT_GLOBAL(), applications need to link utglobal.o to utilize this mechanism. For GCC, assigning stdout to acpi_gbl_output_file using ACPI_INIT_GLOBAL() is not possible as stdout is not a constant in GCC environment. As an alternative solution, stdout assignment has been put into acpi_os_initialize(). Thus acpi_os_initialize() need to be invoked very early by the applications to initialize the default output of acpi_os_printf() to keep behavior consistency. acpidump has already invoked acpi_os_initialize() in this way. 2014-07-08ACPICA: Utilities: Introduce acpi_log_error() to improve portabilityLv Zheng3-0/+50
Invocations like fprintf(stderr) and perror() are not portable, this patch introduces acpi_log_error() as a replacement, it is implemented using new portable API - acpi_ut_file_vprintf(). Note that though acpi_os_initialize() need to be invoked prior than using this new API, since no users are introduced in this patch, such invocations are not added for applications that link utprint.c in this patch. Futher patches that introduce users of acpi_log_error() should take care of this. This patch is only useful for ACPICA applications, most of which are not shipped in the Linux kernel. Note that follow-up commits will update acpidump to use this new API to improve portability. Lv Zheng. 2014-07-08ACPICA: Utilities: Add formatted printing APIsLv Zheng6-1/+682
This patch introduces formatted printing APIs to handle ACPICA specific formatted print requirements. Currently only specific OSPMs will use this customized printing support, Linux kernel doesn't use these APIs at this time. It will be enabled for Linux kernel resident ACPICA after being well tested. So currently this patch is a no-op. The specific formatted printing APIs are useful to ACPICA as: 1. Some portable applications do not link standard C library, so they cannot use standard formatted print APIs directly. 2. Platform specific printing format may differ and thus not portable, for example, u64 is %ull for Linux kernel and is %uI64 for some MSVC versions. 3. Platform specific printing format may conflict with ACPICA's usages while it is not possible for ACPICA developers to test their code for all platforms. For example, developers may generate %pRxxx while Linux kernel treats %pR as structured resource printing and decodes variable argument as a "struct resource" pointer. This patch solves above issues by introducing the new APIs. Note that users of such APIs are not introduced in this patch. Users of acpi_os_file_vprintf()/acpi_ut_file_printf() need to invoke acpi_os_initialize(), this should be taken care by the further patches where such users are introduced. Lv Zheng. 2014-07-08ACPICA: OSL: Add portable file IO to improve portabilityLv Zheng3-0/+254
This patch adds portable file IO to generic OSL to improve the portability of the applications. A portable application may use different file IO interfaces than the standard C library ones. 2014-07-08ACPICA: OSL: Clean up acpi_os_printf()/acpi_os_vprintf() stubsLv Zheng7-25/+1308
This patch is mainly for acpidump where there are redundant acpi_os_printf()/acpi_os_vprintf() stubs implemented. This patch cleans up such specific implementation by linking acpidump to osunixxf.c/oswinxf.c. To make acpi_os_printf() exported by osunixxf.c/oswinxf.c to behave as the old acpidump specific ones, applications need to: 1. Initialize acpi_gbl_db_output_flags to ACPI_DB_CONSOLE_OUTPUT. This is automatically done by ACPI_INIT_GLOBAL(), applications need to link utglobal.o to utilize this mechanism. 2. Initialize acpi_gbl_output_file to stdout. For GCC, assigning stdout to acpi_gbl_output_file using ACPI_INIT_GLOBAL() is not possible as stdout is not a constant in GCC environment. As an alternative solution, stdout assignment is put into acpi_os_initialize(). 2014-07-08ACPICA: Utilities: Cleanup DEFINE_ACPI_GLOBALS by moving ↵Lv Zheng4-147/+147
acpi_ut_init_global() from utglobal.c to utinit.c The utglobal.c is used to define and initialize global variables. It makes sense if just adding utglobal.o to applications that are using such variables. But acpi_ut_init_globals() is preventing us from doing so as this initialization function references other components' initializations code, which leads to the requirement that many files should also get linked if one wants to link utglobal.o. It is possible to just move acpi_ut_init_global() to utinit.c for applications that require this function to link. By linking utglobal.o, we can stop defining DEFINE_ACPI_GLOBALS for applications (currently only acpidump is affected). Lv Zheng. 2014-07-08alarmtimer: Fix bug where relative alarm timers were treated as absoluteJohn Stultz1-2/+18
Sharvil noticed with the posix timer_settime interface, using the CLOCK_REALTIME_ALARM or CLOCK_BOOTTIME_ALARM clockid, if the users tried to specify a relative time timer, it would incorrectly be treated as absolute regardless of the state of the flags argument. This patch corrects this, properly checking the absolute/relative flag, as well as adds further error checking that no invalid flag bits are set. 2014-07-08KVM: x86: Check for nested events if there is an injectable interruptBandan Das1-0/+12
With commit b6b8a1451fc40412c57d1 that introduced vmx_check_nested_events, checks for injectable interrupts happen at different points in time for L1 and L2 that could potentially cause a race. The regression occurs because KVM_REQ_EVENT is always set when nested_run_pending is set even if there's no pending interrupt. Consequently, there could be a small window when check_nested_events returns without exiting to L1, but an interrupt comes through soon after and it incorrectly, gets injected to L2 by inject_pending_event Fix this by adding a call to check for nested events too when a check for injectable interrupt returns true Signed-off-by: Bandan Das <bsd@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Paolo Bonzini <pbonzini@redhat.com>

2014-07-08tcp: fix false undo corner casesYuchung Cheng2-6/+8
The undo code assumes that, upon entering loss recovery, TCP 1) always retransmit something 2) the retransmission never fails locally (e.g., qdisc drop) so undo_marker is set in tcp_enter_recovery() and undo_retrans is incremented only when tcp_retransmit_skb() is successful. When the assumption is broken because TCP's cwnd is too small to retransmit or the retransmit fails locally. The next (DUP)ACK would incorrectly revert the cwnd and the congestion state in tcp_try_undo_dsack() or tcp_may_undo(). Subsequent (DUP)ACKs may enter the recovery state. The sender repeatedly enter and (incorrectly) exit recovery states if the retransmits continue to fail locally while receiving (DUP)ACKs. The fix is to initialize undo_retrans to -1 and start counting on the first retransmission. Always increment undo_retrans even if the retransmissions fail locally because they couldn't cause DSACKs to undo the cwnd reduction. 2014-07-08net/mlx4_en: Don't configure the HW vxlan parser when vxlan offloading isn't setOr Gerlitz1-1/+1
The add_vxlan_port ndo driver code was wrongly testing whether HW vxlan offloads are supported by the device instead of checking if they are currently enabled. This causes the driver to configure the HW parser to conduct matching for vxlan packets but since no steering rules were set, vxlan packets are dropped on RX. Fix that by doing the right test, as done in the del_vxlan_port ndo handler. 2014-07-08igmp: fix the problem when mc leave groupdingtianhong1-4/+6
The problem was triggered by these steps: 1) create socket, bind and then setsockopt for add mc group. mreq.imr_multiaddr.s_addr = inet_addr("255.0.0.37"); mreq.imr_interface.s_addr = inet_addr("192.168.1.2"); setsockopt(sockfd, IPPROTO_IP, IP_ADD_MEMBERSHIP, &mreq, sizeof(mreq)); 2) drop the mc group for this socket. mreq.imr_multiaddr.s_addr = inet_addr("255.0.0.37"); mreq.imr_interface.s_addr = inet_addr("0.0.0.0"); setsockopt(sockfd, IPPROTO_IP, IP_DROP_MEMBERSHIP, &mreq, sizeof(mreq)); 3) and then drop the socket, I found the mc group was still used by the dev: netstat -g Interface RefCnt Group --------------- ------ --------------------- eth2 1 255.0.0.37 Normally even though the IP_DROP_MEMBERSHIP return error, the mc group still need to be released for the netdev when drop the socket, but this process was broken when route default is NULL, the reason is that: The ip_mc_leave_group() will choose the in_dev by the imr_interface.s_addr, if input addr is NULL, the default route dev will be chosen, then the ifindex is got from the dev, then polling the inet->mc_list and return -ENODEV, but if the default route dev is NULL, the in_dev and ifIndex is both NULL, when polling the inet->mc_list, the mc group will be released from the mc_list, but the dev didn't dec the refcnt for this mc group, so when dropping the socket, the mc_list is NULL and the dev still keep this group. v1->v2: According Hideaki's suggestion, we should align with IPv6 (RFC3493) and BSDs, so I add the checking for the in_dev before polling the mc_list, make sure when we remove the mc group, dec the refcnt to the real dev which was using the mc address. The problem would never happened again. Signed-off-by: Ding Tianhong <dingtianhong@huawei.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2014-07-08ARM: imx: fix shared gate clockShawn Guo1-8/+23
Let's say clock A and B are two gate clocks that share the same register bit in hardware. Therefore they are registered as shared gate clocks with imx_clk_gate2_shared(). In a scenario that only clock A is enabled by clk_enable(A) while B is not used, the shared gate will be unexpectedly disabled in hardware. It happens because clk_enable(A) increments the share_count from 0 to 1, while clock B is unused to clock core, and therefore the core function will just disable B by calling clk->ops->disable() directly. The consequence of that call is share_count is decremented to 0 and the gate is disabled in hardware, even though clock A is still in use. The patch fixes the issue by initializing the share_count per hardware state and returns enable state per share_count from .is_enabled() hook, in case it's a shared gate. While at it, add a check in clk_gate2_disable() to ensure it's never called with a zero share_count. 2014-07-08net: Fix NETDEV_CHANGE notifier usage causing spurious arp flushLoic Prylli1-1/+8
A bug was introduced in NETDEV_CHANGE notifier sequence causing the arp table to be sometimes spuriously cleared (including manual arp entries marked permanent), upon network link carrier changes. The changed argument for the notifier was applied only to a single caller of NETDEV_CHANGE, missing among others netdev_state_change(). So upon net_carrier events induced by the network, which are triggering a call to netdev_state_change(), arp_netdev_event() would decide whether to clear or not arp cache based on random/junk stack values (a kind of read buffer overflow).
