2008-07-03ARM: OMAP2: Clock: New OMAP2/3 DPLL rate rounding algorithmPaul Walmsley6-19/+258
This patch adds a new rate rounding algorithm for DPLL clocks on the OMAP2/3 architecture. For a desired DPLL target rate, there may be several multiplier/divider (M, N) values which will generate a sufficiently close rate. Lower N values result in greater power economy. However, lower N values can cause the difference between the rounded rate and the target rate ("rate error") to be larger than it would be with a higher N. This can cause downstream devices to run more slowly than they otherwise would. This DPLL rate rounding algorithm: - attempts to find the lowest possible N (DPLL divider) to reach the target_rate (since, according to Richard Woodruff <r-woodruff@ti.com>, lower N values save more power than higher N values). - allows developers to set an upper bound on the error between the rounded rate and the desired target rate ("rate tolerance"), so an appropriate balance between rate fidelity and power savings can be set. This maximum rate error tolerance is set via omap2_set_dpll_rate_tolerance(). - never returns a rounded rate higher than the target rate. The rate rounding algorithm caches the last rounded M, N, and rate computation to avoid rounding the rate twice for each clk_set_rate() call. (This patch does not yet implement set_rate for DPLLs; that follows in a future patch.) The algorithm trades execution speed for rate accuracy. It will find the (M, N) set that results in the least rate error, within a specified rate tolerance. It does this by evaluating each divider setting - on OMAP3, this involves 128 steps. Another approach to DPLL rate rounding would be to bail out as soon as a valid rate is found within the rate tolerance, which would trade rate accuracy for execution speed. Alternate implementations welcome. This code is not yet used by the OMAP24XX DPLL clock, since it is currently defined as a composite clock, fusing the DPLL M,N and the M2 output divider. This patch also renames the existing OMAP24xx DPLL programming functions to highlight that they program both the DPLL and the DPLL's output multiplier. This patch adds support for DPLL autoidle control to the OMAP3 clock framework. These functions will be used by the noncore DPLL enable and disable code - this is because, according to the CDP code, the DPLL autoidle status must be saved and restored across DPLL lock/bypass/off transitions. N.B.: the CORE DPLL (DPLL3) has three autoidle mode options, rather than just two. This code currently does not support the third option, low-power bypass autoidle. Add a new OMAP chip identification interface, omap_chip_id. omap_chip_id is a structure which contains one bit for each OMAP2/3 CPU type, and on 3430, ES level. For example, the CHIP_IS_OMAP2420 bit is set in omap_chip at boot on an OMAP2420. On OMAP3430ES2, both CHIP_IS_OMAP3430 and CHIP_IS_OMAP3430ES2 bits are set. omap_chip is set in mach-omap2/id.c by _set_omap_chip(). Other code should use the omap_chip_is() function to test against omap_chip. Also, clean up id.c by splitting some code out of omap_check_revision() into its own function, _set_system_rev(); and converting some debug printk()s into pr_debug(). Second revision. This patch adds the use of write posting for the timer. Previously, every write could lock the requestor for almost 3x32KHz cycles. This patch only synchronizes before writes and reads instead of after them and it does it on per register basis. Doing it this way there is some chance to hide some of the sync latency. It also removes some needless reads when non-posted mode is there. With out this fix the read/writes take almost 2% CPU load @500MHz just waiting on tick timer registers. 2008-07-03DRM/i915: only use tiled blits on 965+Jesse Barnes1-2/+2
When scheduled swaps occur, we need to blit between front & back buffers. If the buffers are tiled, we need to set the appropriate XY_SRC_COPY tile bit, but only on 965 chips, since it will cause corruption on pre-965 (e.g. 945). During the development of the physical PCI slot patch series, Gary Hade kept on reporting strange oopses due to interactions between pci_slot and acpiphp. http://lkml.org/lkml/2007/11/28/319 find_root_bridges() unconditionally installs handle_hotplug_event_bridge() as an ACPI_SYSTEM_NOTIFY handler for all root bridges. However, during module cleanup, remove_bridge() will only remove the notify handler iff the root bridge had a hot-pluggable slot directly underneath. That is: root bridge -> hotplug slot But, if the topology looks like either of the following: root bridge -> non-hotplug slot root bridge -> p2p bridge -> hotplug slot Then we currently do not remove the notify handler from that root bridge. This can cause a kernel oops if we modprobe acpiphp later and it gets loaded somewhere else in memory. If the root bridge then receives a hotplug event, it will then attempt to call a stale, non-existent notify handler and we blow up. Much thanks goes to Gary Hade for his persistent debugging efforts. For Broadcom 5706, 5708, 5709 rev. A nics, any read beyond the VPD end tag will hang the device. This problem was initially observed when a vpd entry was created in sysfs ('/sys/bus/pci/devices/<id>/vpd'). A read to this sysfs entry will dump 32k of data. Reading a full 32k will cause an access beyond the VPD end tag causing the device to hang. Once the device is hung, the bnx2 driver will not be able to reset the device. We believe that it is legal to read beyond the end tag and therefore the solution is to limit the read/write length. Add cond_resched() to prevent monopolising CPU when processing large bios. dm-crypt processes encryption of bios in sector units. If the bio request is big it can spend a long time in the encryption call.
