11 daysselftests: mptcp: join: mark tests with data corruption as failedGang Yan1-2/+2
commit ca318e7bbb7723f57bcd9e69a2873b5884435552 upstream. check_transfer() compares the input and output files byte-by-byte using `cmp -l "$in" "$out" | while read ...`. Because the while-loop body runs in a subshell (the script sets neither lastpipe nor pipefail), the fail_test call inside it -- which sets the global ret/last_test_failed -- and the `return 1` both act on the subshell, not on check_transfer(). check_transfer() thus always falls through to `return 0`, and any data corruption affecting only the payload (leaving the subflow/PM counters untouched) is silently reported as PASS. 2026-08-19selftests/ftrace: refactor eprobes test to fix argument checksMartin Kaiser1-11/+5
[ Upstream commit 6e3abef2a27e7402a94111c9eff85d887e64a309 ] The add/remove eprobe test installs an eprobe for the openat syscall and runs ls. It checks the filenames that were opened by ls against a whitelist and a blacklist. Commit 206b25c09080 ("tracing: eprobe: read the complete FILTER_PTR_STRING pointer") fixed access to some string fields in eprobes. This triggers test failures as the blacklist does not allow relative paths for the openat parameters. What makes this test unstable is the fact that the openat calls vary a lot between different systems. Refactor the test to make it more robust. "cd <directory>" will issue a chdir syscall with the target directory as parameter. Set an eprobe on the sys_enter_chdir event and filter for the exact directory name. Allow (fault) as fallback. This patch (of 2): Clone3_set_tid uses getline(&line, ...) in a loop to read the child's process status. The code expects that getline allocates the buffer for the line on the first loop iteration. According to the Open Group Spec[1], char *line has to be null pointer for this: > ssize_t getline(char **restrict lineptr, ...); > If *lineptr is a null pointer or if the object pointed to by *lineptr > is of insufficient size, an object shall be allocated as if by malloc() > or the object shall be reallocated as if by realloc()[...]. However, char *line is only declared, leading to an undefined value that is potentially non-null. Looking at the realloc implementation, Musl mallocs for a null pointer memory. But for a non-null pointer, it assumes it's passed a valid pointer to the heap and tries to access its meta-data. This is another occurrence of using getline where the code assumes that getline allocates memory to store the line, but the pointer passed to it is uninitialized and potentially a non-null pointer. This violates the Open Group Spec[1] and caused a segfault in a similar situation in selftest/clone3/clone3_set_tid. Fix it by initializing the line pointer to NULL. The issue has been found by simply grepping through the selftest code after running into the issue in clone3_set_tid. Whether it segfaults in its current state is unknown to me. But it's good to be addressed due to defensive reasons. [ Upstream commit 441a820ccef9af80a9ac5a4c85b9c396e595967c ] The kselftests doc mentions that a config file should be present "if a test needs specific kernel config options enabled". This selftest requires some kernel config, but no config file was provided. We could say that a sub-target could use the parent's config file, but the kselftests doc doesn't mention anything about that. Plus the net/openvswitch target is the only net target without a config file. Here is a new config file, which is a trimmed version of the net one, with hopefully the minimal required kconfig on top of 'make defconfig'. The Fixes tag points to the introduction of the net/openvswitch target, just to help validating this target on stable kernels. This has not been seen on NIPA before, because the 'af_unix' tests are executed with the 'net' ones, merging their config files. USER_NS is present in tools/testing/selftests/net/config. This issue is visible when only the af_unix config is used on top of the default one. This is the recommended way to execute selftest targets. It: * takes a count (destination size) parameter * guarantees NULL-termination * returns the number of characters copied or -E2BIG Re-define strscpy macro similar to in-kernel implementation [2]: allow the count parameter to be optional. This patch copies this over and adds an #ifdef block to avoid duplicate __CONCAT declaration in conflict with system headers when we ultimately include this. [ Upstream commit f4ef35efbb49527293309f668ea73ec5de9b8e7a ] In tcp_mmap.c, both child_thread() and main() allocate an EVP_MD_CTX via EVP_MD_CTX_new() when integrity checking is enabled, but neither function releases the context. child_thread() misses the free in its common cleanup block, and main() returns without freeing the context. This results in a SHA256 context leak on every run that uses the ‑i (integrity) option. Add the missing EVP_MD_CTX_free() calls to the appropriate cleanup paths to fix the leak. [ Upstream commit eebbef7c468a5cb58c4772849ee5066441166cf0 ] Add a HID-BPF regression check for hid_bpf_get_data() requests whose size would overflow when added to the offset. The new rdesc fixup callback asks for offset 2 and size ~0ULL, then records whether the helper returns NULL. A vulnerable kernel returns a non-NULL pointer because the runtime check wraps the addition. A fixed kernel rejects the request. The callback records the helper result without dereferencing any returned pointer. The callback reports the helper result through BSS and returns 0 intentionally. hid_rdesc_fixup return values are consumed as report descriptor fixup results, so a positive test-result value would be interpreted as a replacement report descriptor size. Also add KHDR_INCLUDES to the HID selftest build so hid_bpf.c sees the current kernel UAPI HID definitions on systems whose installed headers do not provide enum hid_report_type. [ Upstream commit ae7487d112cf9f310d32f27d5956f53d9f143fea ] For the hid-bpf tests to compile, we need to have the definition of struct hid_bpf_ctx. This definition is an internal one from the kernel and it is supposed to be defined in the generated vmlinux.h. This vmlinux.h header is generated based on the currently running kernel or if the kernel was already compiled in the tree. If you just compile the selftests without compiling the kernel beforehand and you are running on a 6.2 kernel, you'll end up with a vmlinux.h without the hid_bpf_ctx definition. Use the clever trick from tools/testing/selftests/bpf/progs/bpf_iter.h to force the definition of that symbol in case we don't find it in the BTF and also add __attribute__((preserve_access_index)) to further support CO-RE functionality for these tests. [ Upstream commit cea5702144615878600d3a39b5d8b3cc34719012 ] The test ignores the return value of fork(), so both the parent and the (newly created) child run the COW verification loops and then call hmm_buffer_free() before returning into the kselftest harness, which _exit()s each side. This duplicated teardown sequence has been observed to manifest as a SIGSEGV in the test child, e.g.: hmm-tests[360141]: segfault (11) at 0 nip 10006964 lr 1000ac3c code 1 in hmm-tests[6964,10000000+30000] Fix this by adopting the same fork()-then-wait pattern already used by the nearby anon_write_child / anon_write_child_shared tests in this file: the child performs the COW verification and then _exit(0)s so it does not run the test teardown, while the parent independently verifies COW, waits for the child, and only then frees the buffer. This series fixes a few issues in hmm-tests that show up when page-size and huge-page configuration differ from the hardcoded assumptions the tests were written for (PMD/THP sizing, default hugepage size, and related cases). It also includes a fix to exclusive_cow: the test ignored the return value of fork(), so both parent and child ran the same teardown path. This patch (of 3): The HMM compound testcase currently assumes only PMD-level mappings and fails on systems where default_hugepagesz=1G is set, because the region is then reported by the device at PUD level. Determine the mapping level (PMD or PUD) the device reports for the first page of the range and require every page to match that level exactly via ASSERT_EQ(). This accepts PUD-level mappings while preserving the expected/observed protection values printed on failure, and rejects a fragmented mapping that mixes PMD- and PUD-level entries within the same range (which a per-page OR check would have let pass). Both offset and length are u32 and, in mock_get_lsa(), both are taken directly from the user-supplied payload. The addition is evaluated modulo 2^32, so a large offset combined with a small length wraps around and passes the check. Rewrite the checks to first bound offset, then compare length against the remaining LSA size. The reverted commit extends the selftest to test timestamp event queue mask manipulation in testptp. It exercises masks PTP_MASK_CLEAR_ALL and PTP_MASK_EN_SINGLE, introduced in commit c5a445b1e934 ("ptp: support event queue reader channel masks"), which is not on this stable branch. The test case thus cannot be built against this tree's own UAPI headers. The reverted commit was introduced to resolve a missing dependency of commit 8d9f22c570ba ("testptp: Add option to open PHC in readonly mode"), which is 76868642e427 upstream. The only conflict between the two is the getopt string, and there is otherwise no direct dependency between the two. This patch therefore reverts the cited commit, with hand-resolving the getopt string to include 'r' (as introduced by c6dc458227a3), but not 'F' (introduced by c1c50689799d). [ Upstream commit 842edb5507a1038e009d27e69d13b94b6f085763 ] Function mark_precise_scalar_ids() is superseded by bt_sync_linked_regs() and equal scalars tracking in jump history. mark_precise_scalar_ids() propagates precision over registers sharing same ID on parent/child state boundaries, while jump history records allow bt_sync_linked_regs() to propagate same information with instruction level granularity, which is strictly more precise. This commit removes mark_precise_scalar_ids() and updates test cases in progs/verifier_scalar_ids to reflect new verifier behavior. The tests are updated in the following manner: - mark_precise_scalar_ids() propagated precision regardless of presence of conditional jumps, while new jump history based logic only kicks in when conditional jumps are present. Hence test cases are augmented with conditional jumps to still trigger precision propagation. - As equal scalars tracking no longer relies on parent/child state boundaries some test cases are no longer interesting, such test cases are removed, namely: - precision_same_state and precision_cross_state are superseded by linked_regs_bpf_k; - precision_same_state_broken_link and equal_scalars_broken_link are superseded by linked_regs_broken_link. However, this Linux version does not support the ptp_sys_offset_extended.clockid field, and the test case cannot be built against this tree's own UAPI headers. 2026-06-19mm/memory: fix spurious warning when unmapping device-private/exclusive pagesAlistair Popple1-0/+50
[ Upstream commit be3f38d05cc5a7c3f13e51994c5dd043ab604d28 ] Device private and exclusive entries are only supported for anonymous folios. This condition is tested in __migrate_device_pages() and make_device_exclusive() using folio_test_anon(). However the unmap path tests this assumption using vma_is_anonymous(). This is wrong because whilst anonymous VMAs can only contain folios where folio_test_anon() is true the opposite relation does not hold. A folio for which folio_test_anon() is true does not imply vma_is_anonymous() is true. Such a condition can occur if for example a folio is part of a private filebacked mapping. In this case vma_is_anonymous() is false as the mapping is filebacked, but folio_test_anon() may be true, thus permitting devices to migrate the folio to device private memory. [ Upstream commit 01ff78e4b3d98689184c52d97f9575dfbdc3b10f ] Using the format specifier +%s%3N with GNU date is honoured, and only prints 3 digits of the nanoseconds portion of the seconds since epoch, which corresponds to the milliseconds. The uutils implementation of date currently does not honour this, and always prints all 9 digits. This is a known issue [1], but can be worked around by adapting this test to use nanoseconds instead of microseconds, and then divide it by 1e6. This fix is similar to what has been done on systemd side [2], and it is needed to run the selftests on Ubuntu 26.04, containing uutils 0.8.0. Note that the Fixes tag is there even if this patch doesn't fix an issue in the kernel selftests, but it is useful for those using uutils 0.8.0. Plain text can safely carry bytes >= 0x80, so allow UTF-8 literals outside '%' sequences while keeping ASCII control bytes rejected and format specifiers ASCII-only. This keeps existing parsing rules for format directives unchanged, while allowing helpers such as bpf_trace_printk() to emit UTF-8 literal text. Update test_snprintf_negative() in the same commit so selftests keep matching the new plain-text vs format-specifier split during bisection. Factor the final hook execution into run_post_ktest(), call it from the normal exit path and from the early exit paths, and guard it so the hook runs at most once. On systems where IPv6 isn't enabled or not configured to support SOCK_STREAM, the test_memcg_sock test always fails. When the socket() call fails, there is no way we can test the memory consumption and verify the above claim. I believe it is better to just skip the test in this case instead of reporting a test failure hinting that there may be something wrong with the memcg code. This is because the top level Makefile includes '-fno-strict-aliasing' flag always. The issue here is that GCC 15 emits '-Wmaybe-uninitialized' due to type punning between __be64[] and __b16* when accessing the buffer via be16_to_cpup(). The underlying object is fully initialized but GCC 15 fails to track the aliasing due to the strict aliasing violation here. Please refer [1] and [2]. This results in a false positive warning which is promoted to an error under '-Werror'. This problem is not seen when the compilation is performed with GCC 13 and 14. An issue [1] has also been created on GCC bugzilla. The selftest compiles fine with '-fno-strict-aliasing'. Since this GCC flag is used to compile vphn.c in kernel too, the same flag should be used to build vphn tests when compiling vphn.c in the selftest as well. Fix this by including '-fno-strict-aliasing' during vphn.c compilation in the selftest. This keeps the build working while limiting the scope of the suppression to building vphn tests. This is happening when non-zero constant is written directly to a slot, e.g., *(u64 *)(r10 -8) = 123. Add both full 64-bit register spill, as well as 32-bit "sub-spill". We know expect fp-16 to be spilled, initially imprecise, zero const register, which is later marked as precise even when partial stack slot load is performed, even if it's not a register fill (!).
