2026-08-19selftests/ftrace: refactor eprobes test to fix argument checksMartin Kaiser1-11/+5
[ Upstream commit 6e3abef2a27e7402a94111c9eff85d887e64a309 ] The add/remove eprobe test installs an eprobe for the openat syscall and runs ls. It checks the filenames that were opened by ls against a whitelist and a blacklist. Commit 206b25c09080 ("tracing: eprobe: read the complete FILTER_PTR_STRING pointer") fixed access to some string fields in eprobes. This triggers test failures as the blacklist does not allow relative paths for the openat parameters. What makes this test unstable is the fact that the openat calls vary a lot between different systems. Refactor the test to make it more robust. "cd <directory>" will issue a chdir syscall with the target directory as parameter. Set an eprobe on the sys_enter_chdir event and filter for the exact directory name. Allow (fault) as fallback. 2026-08-19selftests/clone3: fix wild pointer access of getline due to missing initChris Gellermann1-1/+1
commit 8f6f9fd93cd7a5dd607ad5cd910476dd68fff3ed upstream. Patch series "selftests: Add missing initalization of pointer passed to getline", v2. This patch (of 2): Clone3_set_tid uses getline(&line, ...) in a loop to read the child's process status. The code expects that getline allocates the buffer for the line on the first loop iteration. According to the Open Group Spec[1], char *line has to be null pointer for this: > ssize_t getline(char **restrict lineptr, ...); > If *lineptr is a null pointer or if the object pointed to by *lineptr > is of insufficient size, an object shall be allocated as if by malloc() > or the object shall be reallocated as if by realloc()[...]. However, char *line is only declared, leading to an undefined value that is potentially non-null. In an example run with Musl v1.2.6, the realloc call[2] of getdelim, which implements getline, triggers a segfault: ./run_kselftest.sh --test clone3:clone3_set_tid [ 1366.165898] kselftest: Running tests in clone3 ... [ 1367.799244] clone3_set_tid[811]: unhandled signal 11 code 0x1 at 0x0000000000000000 in libc.so[68184,3fbf69f000+4c000] [ 1367.802808] CPU: 0 UID: 0 PID: 811 Comm: clone3_set_tid Not tainted .. Looking at the realloc implementation, Musl mallocs for a null pointer memory. But for a non-null pointer, it assumes it's passed a valid pointer to the heap and tries to access its meta-data. This leads to the segfault we see: void *realloc(void *p, size_t n) { if (!p) return malloc(n); if (size_overflows(n)) return 0; struct meta *g = get_meta(p); ... } Fix this by properly initializing the line pointer to NULL. 2026-07-24selftests/mm: fix exclusive_cow test fork() handlingAboorva Devarajan1-3/+28
[ Upstream commit cea5702144615878600d3a39b5d8b3cc34719012 ] The test ignores the return value of fork(), so both the parent and the (newly created) child run the COW verification loops and then call hmm_buffer_free() before returning into the kselftest harness, which _exit()s each side. This duplicated teardown sequence has been observed to manifest as a SIGSEGV in the test child, e.g.: hmm-tests[360141]: segfault (11) at 0 nip 10006964 lr 1000ac3c code 1 in hmm-tests[6964,10000000+30000] Fix this by adopting the same fork()-then-wait pattern already used by the nearby anon_write_child / anon_write_child_shared tests in this file: the child performs the COW verification and then _exit(0)s so it does not run the test teardown, while the parent independently verifies COW, waits for the child, and only then frees the buffer. 2026-07-24selftests/mm: allow PUD-level entries in compound testcase of hmm testsSayali Patil1-8/+24
[ Upstream commit 224ed0e019b122d08580362abe57574a78f2b5fa ] Patch series "selftests/mm: assorted fixes for hmm-tests", v3. This series fixes a few issues in hmm-tests that show up when page-size and huge-page configuration differ from the hardcoded assumptions the tests were written for (PMD/THP sizing, default hugepage size, and related cases). It also includes a fix to exclusive_cow: the test ignored the return value of fork(), so both parent and child ran the same teardown path. This patch (of 3): The HMM compound testcase currently assumes only PMD-level mappings and fails on systems where default_hugepagesz=1G is set, because the region is then reported by the device at PUD level. Determine the mapping level (PMD or PUD) the device reports for the first page of the range and require every page to match that level exactly via ASSERT_EQ(). This accepts PUD-level mappings while preserving the expected/observed protection values printed on failure, and rejects a fragmented mapping that mixes PMD- and PUD-level entries within the same range (which a per-page OR check would have let pass). 2026-07-04Revert "ptp: add testptp mask test"Petr Machata1-18/+1
This reverts commit 8510559c0fa1e228b18fcf77cfbcf5b970793a8a, which is commit 26285e689c6cd2cf3849568c83b2ebe53f467143 upstream. The reverted commit extends the selftest to test timestamp event queue mask manipulation in testptp. It exercises masks PTP_MASK_CLEAR_ALL and PTP_MASK_EN_SINGLE, introduced in commit c5a445b1e934 ("ptp: support event queue reader channel masks"), which is not on this stable branch. The test case thus cannot be built against this tree's own UAPI headers. The reverted commit was introduced to resolve a missing dependency of commit bef3a83a9a67 ("testptp: Add option to open PHC in readonly mode"), which is 76868642e427 upstream. The only conflict between the two is the getopt string, and there is otherwise no direct dependency between the two. This patch therefore reverts the cited commit, with hand-resolving the getopt string to include 'r' (as introduced by c6dc458227a3), but not 'F' (introduced by c1c50689799d). 2026-07-04Revert "selftest/ptp: update ptp selftest to exercise the gettimex options"Petr Machata1-57/+5
This reverts commit 6b32d042aa8255e964ebed860e24adccb204fcbc, which is commit 3d07b691ee707c00afaf365440975e81bb96cd9b upstream. The cited commit allows testptp to set a configurable clock_id. That is done via a PTP_SYS_OFFSET_EXTENDED ioctl call, whose argument is struct ptp_sys_offset_extended, where the clock_id is set. However, this Linux version does not support the ptp_sys_offset_extended.clockid field, and the test case cannot be built against this tree's own UAPI headers. The reverted commit was introduced to resolve a missing dependency of commit bef3a83a9a67 ("testptp: Add option to open PHC in readonly mode"), which is 76868642e427 upstream. My suspicion is that the only conflict between the two is the getopt string, and there is otherwise no direct dependency between the two. This patch therefore reverts the cited commit, with hand-resolving the getopt string to include 'r' (as introduced by c6dc458227a3), but not 'y' (introduced by 06954f715deb). 2026-06-19selftests: mptcp: drop nanoseconds width specifierMatthieu Baerts (NGI0)1-3/+3
[ Upstream commit 01ff78e4b3d98689184c52d97f9575dfbdc3b10f ] Using the format specifier +%s%3N with GNU date is honoured, and only prints 3 digits of the nanoseconds portion of the seconds since epoch, which corresponds to the milliseconds. The uutils implementation of date currently does not honour this, and always prints all 9 digits. This is a known issue [1], but can be worked around by adapting this test to use nanoseconds instead of microseconds, and then divide it by 1e6. This fix is similar to what has been done on systemd side [2], and it is needed to run the selftests on Ubuntu 26.04, containing uutils 0.8.0. Note that the Fixes tag is there even if this patch doesn't fix an issue in the kernel selftests, but it is useful for those using uutils 0.8.0. 2026-06-19selftests: forwarding: lib: Add helpers for checksum handlingPetr Machata1-0/+56
commit 952e0ee38c7215c45192d8c899acd1830873f28b upstream. In order to generate IGMPv3 and MLDv2 packets on the fly, we will need helpers to calculate the packet checksum. The approach presented in this patch revolves around payload templates for mausezahn. These are mausezahn-like payload strings (01:23:45:...) with possibly one 2-byte sequence replaced with the word PAYLOAD. The main function is payload_template_calc_checksum(), which calculates RFC 1071 checksum of the message. There are further helpers to then convert the checksum to the payload format, and to expand it. For IPv6, MLDv2 message checksum is computed using a pseudoheader that differs from the header used in the payload itself. The fact that the two messages are different means that the checksum needs to be returned as a separate quantity, instead of being expanded in-place in the payload itself. Furthermore, the pseudoheader includes a length of the message. Much like the checksum, this needs to be expanded in mausezahn format. And likewise for number of addresses for (S,G) entries. Thus we have several places where a computed quantity needs to be presented in the payload format. Add a helper u16_to_bytes(), which will be used in all these cases. 2026-06-01selftest: memcg: skip memcg_sock test if address family not supportedWaiman Long1-1/+10
[ Upstream commit 2d028f3e4bbbfd448928a8d3d2814b0b04c214f4 ] The test_memcg_sock test in memcontrol.c sets up an IPv6 socket and send data over it to consume memory and verify that memory.stat.sock and memory.current values are close. On systems where IPv6 isn't enabled or not configured to support SOCK_STREAM, the test_memcg_sock test always fails. When the socket() call fails, there is no way we can test the memory consumption and verify the above claim. I believe it is better to just skip the test in this case instead of reporting a test failure hinting that there may be something wrong with the memcg code. This caused the date produced to create the directory for saving files of a failed run to have the month off by one. machine-test-useconfig-fail-20260314073628 The above happened in April, not March. commit 64fac99037689020ad97e472ae898e96ea3616dc upstream. Commit 85506aca2eb4 ("selftests/mqueue: Set timeout to 180 seconds") intended to increase the timeout for mq_perf_tests from the default kselftest limit of 45 seconds to 180 seconds. Unfortunately, the file storing this information was incorrectly named `setting` instead of `settings`, causing the kselftest runner not to pick up the limit and keep using the default 45 seconds limit. Fix this by renaming it to `settings` to ensure that the kselftest runner uses the increased timeout of 180 seconds for this test. 2026-04-18selftests: mptcp: more stable simult_flows testsPaolo Abeni1-4/+7
commit 8c09412e584d9bcc0e71d758ec1008d1c8d1a326 upstream. By default, the netem qdisc can keep up to 1000 packets under its belly to deal with the configured rate and delay. The simult flows test-case simulates very low speed links, to avoid problems due to slow CPUs and the TCP stack tend to transmit at a slightly higher rate than the (virtual) link constraints. All the above causes a relatively large amount of packets being enqueued in the netem qdiscs - the longer the transfer, the longer the queue - producing increasingly high TCP RTT samples and consequently increasingly larger receive buffer size due to DRS. When the receive buffer size becomes considerably larger than the needed size, the tests results can flake, i.e. because minimal inaccuracy in the pacing rate can lead to a single subflow usage towards the end of the connection for a considerable amount of data. Address the issue explicitly setting netem limits suitable for the configured link speeds and unflake all the affected tests. enabled [ Upstream commit 02cb2e6bacbb08ebf6acb61be816efd11e1f4a21 ] The test generates VXLAN traffic using mausezahn, where the encapsulated inner IPv4 packet contains a zero IP header checksum. After VXLAN decapsulation, such packets do not pass sanity checks in br_netfilter and are dropped, which causes the test to fail. Fix this by calculating and setting a valid IPv4 header checksum for the encapsulated packet generated by mausezahn, so that the packet is accepted by br_netfilter. Fixed by using the payload_template_calc_checksum() / payload_template_expand_checksum() helpers that are only available in v6.3 and newer kernels. [ Upstream commit a2646773a005b59fd1dc7ff3ba15df84889ca5d2 ] As explained in [1], iproute2 started rejecting tc-police burst sizes that result in an overflow. Fix by reducing the burst size so that the test will pass with both new and old iproute2 versions. 2026-01-19selftests/bpf: Improve reliability of test_perf_branches_no_hw()Matt Bobrowski2-2/+17
[ Upstream commit ae24fc8a16b0481ea8c5acbc66453c49ec0431c4 ] Currently, test_perf_branches_no_hw() relies on the busy loop within test_perf_branches_common() being slow enough to allow at least one perf event sample tick to occur before starting to tear down the backing perf event BPF program. With a relatively small fixed iteration count of 1,000,000, this is not guaranteed on modern fast CPUs, resulting in the test run to subsequently fail with the following: bpf_testmod.ko is already unloaded. Loading bpf_testmod.ko... On a modern CPU (i.e. one with a 3.5 GHz clock rate), executing 1 million increments of a volatile integer can take significantly less than 1 millisecond. If the spin loop and detachment of the perf event BPF program elapses before the first 1 ms sampling interval elapses, the perf event will never end up firing. Fix this by bumping the loop iteration counter a little within test_perf_branches_common(), along with ensuring adding another loop termination condition which is directly influenced by the backing perf event BPF program executing. Notably, a concious decision was made to not adjust the sample_freq value as that is just not a reliable way to go about fixing the problem. It effectively still leaves the race window open. [ Upstream commit 27746aaf1b20172f0859546c4a3e82eca459f680 ] Gracefully skip the test_perf_branches_hw subtest on platforms that do not support LBR or require specialized perf event attributes to enable branch sampling. For example, AMD's Milan (Zen 3) supports BRS rather than traditional LBR. This requires specific configurations (attr.type = PERF_TYPE_RAW, attr.config = RETIRED_TAKEN_BRANCH_INSTRUCTIONS) that differ from the generic setup used within this test. Notably, it also probably doesn't hold much value to special case perf event configurations for selected micro architectures. 2025-12-07selftests/bpf: Don't rely on preserving volatile in PT_REGS macros in loop3Andrii Nakryiko1-2/+2
commit 70bc793382a0e37ba4e35e4d1a317b280b829a44 upstream. PT_REGS*() macro on some architectures force-cast struct pt_regs to other types (user_pt_regs, etc) and might drop volatile modifiers, if any. Volatile isn't really required as pt_regs value isn't supposed to change during the BPF program run, so this is correct behavior. But progs/loop3.c relies on that volatile modifier to ensure that loop is preserved. Fix loop3.c by declaring i and sum variables as volatile instead. It preserves the loop and makes the test pass on all architectures (including s390x which is currently broken). commit aea73bae662a0e184393d6d7d0feb18d2577b9b9 upstream. Some of these 'remove' tests rarely fail because a subflow has been reset instead of cleanly removed. This can happen when one extra subflow which has never carried data is being closed (FIN) on one side, while the other is sending data for the first time. To avoid such subflows to be used right at the end, the backup flag has been added. With that, data will be only carried on the initial subflow. 2025-12-07selftests: netdevsim: set test timeout to 10 minutesJakub Kicinski1-0/+1
commit afbf75e8da8ce8a0698212953d350697bb4355a6 upstream. The longest running netdevsim test, nexthop.sh, currently takes 5 min to finish. Around 260s to be exact, and 310s on a debug kernel. 2025-12-07selftests/net: use destination options instead of hop-by-hopAnubhav Singh1-2/+2
[ Upstream commit f8e8486702abb05b8c734093aab1606af0eac068 ] The GRO self-test, gro.c, currently constructs IPv6 packets containing a Hop-by-Hop Options header (IPPROTO_HOPOPTS) to ensure the GRO path correctly handles IPv6 extension headers. However, network elements may be configured to drop packets with the Hop-by-Hop Options header (HBH). This causes the self-test to fail in environments where such network elements are present. To improve the robustness and reliability of this test in diverse network environments, switch from using IPPROTO_HOPOPTS to IPPROTO_DSTOPTS (Destination Options). The Destination Options header is less likely to be dropped by intermediate routers and still serves the core purpose of the test: validating GRO's handling of an IPv6 extension header. This change ensures the test can execute successfully without being incorrectly failed by network policies outside the kernel's control.
