2023-08-16selftests/bpf: Fix sk_assign on s390xIlya Leoshkevich3-6/+33
[ Upstream commit 7ce878ca81bca7811e669db4c394b86780e0dbe4 ] sk_assign is failing on an s390x machine running Debian "bookworm" for 2 reasons: legacy server_map definition and uninitialized addrlen in recvfrom() call. Fix by adding a new-style server_map definition and dropping addrlen (recvfrom() allows NULL values for src_addr and addrlen). Since the test should support tc built without libbpf, build the prog twice: with the old-style definition and with the new-style definition, then select the right one at runtime. This could be done at compile time too, but this would not be cross-compilation friendly. The call's return value is also the return value for the program. Since do_bind() returns 0/1, so it is legitimate for compiler to optimize 'return do_bind(ctx) ? 1 : 0' to 'return do_bind(ctx)'. However, such optimization breaks verifier as the return value of 'do_bind()' is marked as any scalar which violates the requirement of prog return value 0/1. There are two ways to fix this problem, (1) changing 'return 1' in do_bind() to e.g. 'return 10' so the compiler has to do 'do_bind(ctx) ? 1 :0', or (2) suggested by Andrii, marking do_bind() with __weak attribute so the compiler cannot make any assumption on do_bind() return value. This patch adopted adding __weak approach which is simpler and more resistant to potential compiler optimizations. 2023-08-16selftests/bpf: make test_align selftest more robustAndrii Nakryiko1-13/+23
[ Upstream commit 4f999b767769b76378c3616c624afd6f4bb0d99f ] test_align selftest relies on BPF verifier log emitting register states for specific instructions in expected format. Unfortunately, BPF verifier precision backtracking log interferes with such expectations. And instruction on which precision propagation happens sometimes don't output full expected register states. This does indeed look like something to be improved in BPF verifier, but is beyond the scope of this patch set. So to make test_align a bit more robust, inject few dummy R4 = R5 instructions which capture desired state of R5 and won't have precision tracking logs on them. This fixes tests until we can improve BPF verifier output in the presence of precision tracking. Add a test to check that the verifier is able to recognize spilling of PTR_TO_MEM registers, by reserving a ringbuf buffer, forcing the spill of a pointer holding the buffer address to the stack, filling it back in from the stack and writing to the memory area pointed by it. We skip generic hooks for TCP_ZEROCOPY_RECEIVE and have a custom call in do_tcp_getsockopt using the on-stack data. This removes 3% overhead for locking/unlocking the socket. Without this patch: 3.38% 0.07% tcp_mmap [kernel.kallsyms] [k] __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_getsockopt | --3.30%--__cgroup_bpf_run_filter_getsockopt | --0.81%--__kmalloc With the patch applied: 0.52% 0.12% tcp_mmap [kernel.kallsyms] [k] __cgroup_bpf_run_filter_getsockopt_kern Note, exporting uapi/tcp.h requires removing netinet/tcp.h from test_progs.h because those headers have confliciting definitions. [ Upstream commit ecdf985d7615356b78241fdb159c091830ed0380 ] For aligned stack writes using BPF_ST instruction track stored values in a same way BPF_STX is handled, e.g. make sure that the following commands produce similar verifier knowledge: fp[-8] = 42; r1 = 42; fp[-8] = r1; This covers two cases: - non-null values written to stack are stored as spill of fake registers; - null values written to stack are stored as STACK_ZERO marks. Previously both cases above used STACK_MISC marks instead. Some verifier test cases relied on the old logic to obtain STACK_MISC marks for some stack values. These test cases are updated in the same commit to avoid failures during bisect. The assertion would fail and the test would flake. This can be reliably reproduced by arbitrarily increasing the loopback latency (thanks to [1]): tc qdisc add dev lo root handle 1: htb default 12 tc class add dev lo parent 1:1 classid 1:12 htb rate 20kbps ceil 20kbps tc qdisc add dev lo parent 1:12 netem delay 100ms Fix this by waiting on the receive end, instead of instantly returning to the assert. The call to read() will wait for the default SO_RCVTIMEO timeout of 3 seconds provided by start_server(). 2023-04-05libbpf: Fix btf_dump's packed struct determinationAndrii Nakryiko1-0/+19
[ Upstream commit 4fb877aaa179dcdb1676d55216482febaada457e ] Fix bug in btf_dump's logic of determining if a given struct type is packed or not. The notion of "natural alignment" is not needed and is even harmful in this case, so drop it altogether. The biggest difference in btf_is_struct_packed() compared to its original implementation is that we don't really use btf__align_of() to determine overall alignment of a struct type (because it could be 1 for both packed and non-packed struct, depending on specifci field definitions), and just use field's actual alignment to calculate whether any field is requiring packing or struct's size overall necessitates packing. Add two simple test cases that demonstrate the difference this change would make. 2023-04-05libbpf: Fix BTF-to-C converter's padding logicAndrii Nakryiko2-19/+41
[ Upstream commit ea2ce1ba99aa6a60c8d8a706e3abadf3de372163 ] Turns out that btf_dump API doesn't handle a bunch of tricky corner cases, as reported by Per, and further discovered using his testing Python script ([0]). This patch revamps btf_dump's padding logic significantly, making it more correct and also avoiding unnecessary explicit padding, where compiler would pad naturally. This overall topic turned out to be very tricky and subtle, there are lots of subtle corner cases. The comments in the code tries to give some clues, but comments themselves are supposed to be paired with good understanding of C alignment and padding rules. Plus some experimentation to figure out subtle things like whether `long :0;` means that struct is now forced to be long-aligned (no, it's not, turns out). Anyways, Per's script, while not completely correct in some known situations, doesn't show any obvious cases where this logic breaks, so this is a nice improvement over the previous state of this logic. Some selftests had to be adjusted to accommodate better use of natural alignment rules, eliminating some unnecessary padding, or changing it to `type: 0;` alignment markers. Note also that for when we are in between bitfields, we emit explicit bit size, while otherwise we use `: 0`, this feels much more natural in practice. Next patch will add few more test cases, found through randomized Per's script. [ Upstream commit 0b0757244754ea1d0721195c824770f5576e119e ] Building BPF selftests out of srctree fails with: make: *** No rule to make target '/linux-build//ima_setup.sh', needed by 'ima_setup.sh'. Stop. The culprit is the rule that defines convenient shorthands like "make test_progs", which builds $(OUTPUT)/test_progs. These shorthands make sense only for binaries that are built though; scripts that live in the source tree do not end up in $(OUTPUT). Therefore drop $(TEST_PROGS) and $(TEST_PROGS_EXTENDED) from the rule. The issue exists for a while, but it became a problem only after commit d68ae4982cb7 ("selftests/bpf: Install all required files to run selftests"), which added dependencies on these scripts. Recently added dst_port check relies on the fact that destination port (remote peer port) of the socket which sends the packet is known ahead of time. This holds true only for the client socket, which connects to the known server port. Filter out any traffic that is not egressing from the client socket in the BPF program that tests reading the dst_port. This doesn't play well with the verifier tests, since they always set a 64 byte input buffer. We have dedicated ctx access tests so skipping here doesn't reduce coverage. [ Upstream commit d23a8720327d33616f584d76c80824bfa4699be6 ] In test_lwt_ip_encap, the ingress IPv6 encap test failed from time to time. The failure occured when an IPv4 ping through the IPv6 GRE encapsulation did not receive a reply within the timeout. The IPv4 ping and the IPv6 ping in the test used different timeouts (1 sec for IPv4 and 6 sec for IPv6), probably taking into account that IPv6 might need longer to successfully complete. However, when IPv4 pings (with the short timeout) are encapsulated into the IPv6 tunnel, the delays of IPv6 apply. The actual reason for the long delays with IPv6 was that the IPv6 neighbor discovery sometimes did not complete in time. This was caused by the outgoing interface only having a tentative link local address, i.e., not having completed DAD for that lladdr. The ND was successfully retried after 1 sec but that was too late for the ping timeout. The IPv6 addresses for the test were already added with nodad. However, for the lladdrs, DAD was still performed. We now disable DAD in the test netns completely and just assume that the two lladdrs on each veth pair do not collide. This removes all the delays for IPv6 traffic in the test. Without the delays, we can now also reduce the delay of the IPv6 ping to 1 sec. This makes the whole test complete faster because we don't need to wait for the excessive timeout for each IPv6 ping that is supposed to fail. [ Upstream commit c2fcbf81c332b42382a0c439bfe2414a241e4f5b ] The libbpf CI reported occasional failure in btf_skc_cls_ingress: test_syncookie:FAIL:Unexpected syncookie states gen_cookie:80326634 recv_cookie:0 bpf prog error at line 97 "error at line 97" means the bpf prog cannot find the listening socket when the final ack is received. It then skipped processing the syncookie in the final ack which then led to "recv_cookie:0". The problem is the userspace program did not do accept() and went ahead to close(listen_fd) before the kernel (and the bpf prog) had a chance to process the final ack. The fix is to add accept() call so that the userspace will wait for the kernel to finish processing the final ack first before close()-ing everything. Specifically, 8-byte packet reads are tested at the beginning of data and at the beginning of data_meta, using all kinds of boundary checks (all comparison operators: <, >, <=, >=; both permutations of operands: data + length compared to end, end compared to data + length). For each case there are three tests: 1. Length is just enough for an 8-byte read. Length is either 7 or 8, depending on the comparison. 2. Length is increased by 1 - should still pass the verifier. These cases are useful, because they failed before commit 2fa7d94afc1a ("bpf: Fix the off-by-two error in range markings"). 3. Length is decreased by 1 - should be rejected by the verifier. Some existing tests are just renamed to avoid duplication. Due to this error, arithmetically equivalent pieces of code could get different verdicts from the verifier, for example (pseudocode): // 1. Passes the verifier: if (data + 8 > data_end) return early read *(u64 *)data, i.e. [data; data+7] // 2. Rejected by the verifier (should still pass): if (data + 7 >= data_end) return early read *(u64 *)data, i.e. [data; data+7] The attempted fix, however, shifts the range by one in a wrong direction, so the bug not only remains, but also such piece of code starts failing in the verifier: // 3. Rejected by the verifier, but the check is stricter than in #1. if (data + 8 >= data_end) return early read *(u64 *)data, i.e. [data; data+7] The change performed by that fix converted an off-by-one bug into off-by-two. The second commit cited below added the BPF selftests written to ensure than code chunks like #3 are rejected, however, they should be accepted. This commit fixes the off-by-two error by adjusting new_range in the right direction and fixes the tests by changing the range into the one that should actually fail. While that works correctly, it introduces more branches, which blows up past 1 million instructions in no-alu32 variant of strobemeta selftests. Switching len variable from u32 to u64 also fixes the issue and reduces the number of validated instructions, so use that instead. Fix this patch and bpf_clamp_umax() removed, both alu32 and no-alu32 selftests pass. Without the fix it would not pass the condition: if (__reg64_bound_u32(reg->umin_value) && __reg64_bound_u32(reg->umax_value)) since umin_value == 0 at this point. Before commit 10bf4e83167c the umin was incorrectly ingored. The commit 10bf4e83167c fixed the correctness issue, but pessimized propagation of 64-bit min max into 32-bit min max and corresponding var_off. Clang knows that, but verifier isn't able to infer this relationship. Yonghong Song narrowed down this "regression" in code generation to a recent Clang optimization change ([0]), which for BPF target generates code pattern that BPF verifier can't handle and loses track of register boundaries. This patch works around the issue by adding an BPF assembly-based helper that helps to prove to the verifier that upper bound of the register is a given constant by controlling the exact share of generated BPF instruction sequence. This fixes the immediate issue for strobemeta selftest. [ Upstream commit d888eaac4fb1df30320bb1305a8f78efe86524c6 ] When building bpf selftest with make -j, I'm randomly getting build failures such as this one: In file included from progs/bpf_flow.c:19: [...]/tools/testing/selftests/bpf/tools/include/bpf/bpf_helpers.h:11:10: fatal error: 'bpf_helper_defs.h' file not found #include "bpf_helper_defs.h" ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ The file that fails the build varies between runs but it's always in the progs/ subdir. The reason is a missing make dependency on libbpf for the .o files in progs/. There was a dependency before commit 3ac2e20fba07e but that commit removed it to prevent unneeded rebuilds. However, that only works if libbpf has been built already; the 'wildcard' prerequisite does not trigger when there's no bpf_helper_defs.h generated yet. Keep the libbpf as an order-only prerequisite to satisfy both goals. It is always built before the progs/ objects but it does not trigger unnecessary rebuilds by itself. 2021-09-18selftests/bpf: Fix flaky send_signal testYonghong Song1-0/+16
[ Upstream commit b16ac5bf732a5e23d164cf908ec7742d6a6120d3 ] libbpf CI has reported send_signal test is flaky although I am not able to reproduce it in my local environment. But I am able to reproduce with on-demand libbpf CI ([1]). Through code analysis, the following is possible reason. The failed subtest runs bpf program in softirq environment. Since bpf_send_signal() only sends to a fork of "test_progs" process. If the underlying current task is not "test_progs", bpf_send_signal() will not be triggered and the subtest will fail. To reduce the chances where the underlying process is not the intended one, this patch boosted scheduling priority to -20 (highest allowed by setpriority() call). And I did 10 runs with on-demand libbpf CI with this patch and I didn't observe any failures.
