2024-08-03perf test: Make test_arm_callgraph_fp.sh more robustJames Clark2-21/+26
[ Upstream commit ff16aeb9b83441b8458d4235496cf320189a0c60 ] The 2 second sleep can cause the test to fail on very slow network file systems because Perf ends up being killed before it finishes starting up. Fix it by making the leafloop workload end after a fixed time like the other workloads so there is no need to kill it after 2 seconds. Also remove the 1 second start sampling delay because it is similarly fragile. Instead, search through all samples for a matching one, rather than just checking the first sample and hoping it's in the right place. [ Upstream commit 33fe7c08446af6dda0ff08ff4fa9c921e574477f ] $TEST_PROGRAM is a command with spaces so it's supposed to be word split. The referenced fix to fix the shellcheck warnings incorrectly quoted this string so unquote it to fix the test. At the same time silence the shellcheck warning for that line and fix two more shellcheck errors at the end of the script. 2024-06-12perf tests: Make "test data symbol" more robust on Neoverse N1James Clark1-0/+16
[ Upstream commit 256ef072b3842273ce703db18b603b051aca95fe ] To prevent anyone from seeing a test failure appear as a regression and thinking that it was caused by their code change, insert some noise into the loop which makes it immune to sampling bias issues (errata 1694299). The "test data symbol" test can fail with any unrelated change that shifts the loop into an unfortunate position in the Perf binary which is almost impossible to debug as the root cause of the test failure. Ultimately it's caused by the referenced errata. 2024-06-12perf test: Add 'datasym' test workloadNamhyung Kim4-0/+28
[ Upstream commit 3dfc01fe9d12a1e832f49deab37279faa8a9ebc8 ] The datasym workload is to check if perf mem command gets the data addresses precisely. This is needed for data symbol test. $ perf test -w datasym I had to keep the buf1 in the data section, otherwise it could end up in the BSS and was mmaped as a separate //anon region, then it was not symbolized at all. It needs to be fixed separately. Committer notes: Add a -U _FORTIFY_SOURCE to the datasym CFLAGS, as the main perf flags set it and it requires building with optimization, and this new test has a -O0. 2024-06-12perf test: Add 'sqrtloop' test workloadNamhyung Kim4-0/+49
[ Upstream commit 39281709a6e2301ac4c6ac7015c7793392ca2dfe ] The sqrtloop creates a child process to run an infinite loop calling sqrt() with rand(). This is needed for ARM SPE fork test. $ perf test -w sqrtloop It can take an optional argument to specify how long it will run in seconds (default: 1). Committer notes: Explicitely ignored the sqrt() return to fix the build on systems where the compiler complains it isn't being used. And added a sqrtloop specific CFLAGS to disable optimizations to make this a bit more robust wrt dead code elimination. Doing that a -U_FORTIFY_SOURCE needs to be added, as -O0 is incompatible with it. This adds a basic framework to run the workloads and 'noploop' workload as an example. $ perf test -w noploop The noploop does a loop doing nothing (NOP) for a second by default. It can have an optional argument to specify the time in seconds. commit 68ca249c964f520af7f8763e22f12bd26b57b870 upstream. As of now, bpf counters (bperf) don't support event groups. But the default perf stat includes topdown metrics if supported (on recent Intel machines) which require groups. That makes perf stat exiting. $ sudo perf stat --bpf-counter true bpf managed perf events do not yet support groups. Actually the test explicitly uses cycles event only, but it missed to pass the option when it checks the availability of the command. [ Upstream commit a84260e314029e6dc9904fd6eabf8d9fd7965351 ] It has system-wide test and cpu-list test but the cpu-list test fails sometimes. It runs sleep command on CPU1 and measure both user.slice and system.slice cgroups by default (on systemd-based systems). But if the system was idle enough, sometime the system.slice gets no count and it makes the test failing. Maybe that's because it only looks at the CPU1, let's add CPU0 to increase the chance it finds some tasks. This change happened after the commit a4b8cfcabb1d90ec ("perf stat: Delay metric parsing"), which delayed the metric parsing phase and now before metric parsing phase perf tool identifies, whether target is system-wide or not. With this change, perf_event_open will fails with workload monitoring for uncore events as expected. The perf all metric test case fails as some of the hv-24x7 metric events may need bigger workload with system wide monitoring to get the data. Fix this issue by changing current system wide check from true workload to sleep 0.01 workload. 2022-11-08perf test: Fix skipping branch stack sampling testJames Clark1-1/+4
Commit f4a2aade6809c657 ("perf tests powerpc: Fix branch stack sampling test to include sanity check for branch filter") added a skip if certain branch options aren't available. But the change added both -b (--branch-any) and --branch-filter options at the same time, which will always result in a failure on any platform because the arguments can't be used together. Fix this by removing -b (--branch-any) and leaving --branch-filter which already specifies 'any'. Also add warning messages to the test and perf tool. Testcase stat+json_output.sh fails in powerpc: 86: perf stat JSON output linter : FAILED! The testcase "stat+json_output.sh" verifies perf stat JSON output. The test covers aggregation modes like per-socket, per-core, per-die, -A (no_aggr mode) along with few other tests. It counts expected fields for various commands. For example say -A (i.e, AGGR_NONE mode), expects 7 fields in the output having "CPU" as first field. Same way, for per-socket, it expects the first field in result to point to socket id. The testcases compares the result with expected count. The values for socket, die, core and cpu are fetched from topology directory: /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu*/topology. For example, socket value is fetched from "physical_package_id" file of topology directory. (cpu__get_topology_int() in util/cpumap.c) If a platform fails to fetch the topology information, values will be set to -1. For example, incase of pSeries platform of powerpc, value for "physical_package_id" is restricted and not exposed. So, -1 will be assigned. Perf code has a checks for valid cpu id in "aggr_printout" (stat-display.c), which displays the fields. So, in cases where topology values not exposed, first field of the output displaying will be empty. This cause the testcase to fail, as it counts number of fields in the output. Incase of -A (AGGR_NONE mode,), testcase expects 7 fields in the output, becos of -1 value obtained from topology files for some, only 6 fields are printed. This adds the initial build infrastructure (makefiles maintainers information) for adding follow-on tests for CoreSight. Committer notes: Remove the installation of tests/shell/coresight/*.sh, as there are no files there yet and thus, at this point, make install fails. Use $(QUIET_CLEAN) to avoid having extraneous output in the 'make clean' output. Also use @$(MAKE) in tools/perf/tests/shell/coresight/Makefile as $(Q) is not turning into @ when V=1 isn't used, i.e. in the default case it is not being quiet. The test is designed with a data structure with 64-byte alignment, it has two fields "data1" and "data2", and other fields are reserved. Using the "perf mem" command, we can record and report memory samples for a self-contained workload with 1 second duration. If no samples are obtained for the data structure "buf1", it reports failure; and by checking the offset in structure "buf1", if the memory samples aren't for the "data1" and "data2" fields, it means wrong data symbol parsing and returns failure. By allowing the if expression to have a right hand side that is an if expression we can parse the expression above, with left to right evaluation order that matches languages like Python.
