libtraceevent is now out-of-date and it is better to depend on the
system version. Remove this code that is no longer depended upon by
any builds.
Committer notes:
Removed the removed tools/lib/traceevent/ from tools/perf/MANIFEST, so
that 'make perf-tar-src-pkg' works.

Add '__rel_loc' new dynamic data location attribute which encodes
the data location from the next to the field itself. This is similar
to the '__data_loc' but the location offset is not from the event
entry but from the next of the field.
This patch adds '__rel_loc' decoding support in the libtraceevent.

Each time the pretty_print() function is called to print an event, the
event's format string is parsed. As this format string does not change,
this parsing can be done only once - when the event struct is
initialized.

The printk format specifiers used in event's print format files extend
the standard printf formats. There are a lot of new options related to
printing pointers and kernel specific structures. Currently trace-cmd
does not support many of them.
Support for these new printk specifiers is added to the pretty_print()
function:
- UUID/GUID address: %pU[bBlL]
- Raw buffer as a hex string: %*ph[CDN]
These are improved:
- MAC address: %pMF, %pM and %pmR
- IPv4 adderss: %p[Ii]4[hnbl]
Function pretty_print() is refactored. The logic for printing pointers
%p[...] is moved to its own function.

directories.
Implement new traceevent plugin API, which can be used to add new plugins
directories:
enum tep_plugin_load_priority {
TEP_PLUGIN_FIRST,
TEP_PLUGIN_LAST,
};
int tep_add_plugin_path(struct tep_handle *tep, char *path,
enum tep_plugin_load_priority prio);
It adds the "path" as new plugin directory, in the context of the
handler "tep". The tep_load_plugins() API searches for plugins in this
new location. Depending of the priority "prio", the plugins from this
directory are loaded before (TEP_PLUGIN_FIRST) or after
(TEP_PLUGIN_LAST) the ordinary libtraceevent plugin locations.

In order to move pointer checks like IS_ERR_VALUE() out of the hotpath
and into the reader path of a trace event, user space tools need to be
able to parse that. IS_ERR_VALUE() is defined as:
#define IS_ERR_VALUE() unlikely((unsigned long)(void *)(x) >= (unsigned long)-MAX_ERRNO)
Which eventually turns into:
__builtin_expect(!!((unsigned long)(void *)(x) >= (unsigned long)-4095), 0)
Now the traceevent parser can handle most of that except for the
__builtin_expect(), which needs to be added.

Commit c61f13eaa1ee1 ("gcc-plugins: Add structleak for more stack
initialization") added "__attribute__((user))" to the user when
stackleak detector is enabled. This now appears in the field format of
system call trace events for system calls that have user buffers. The
"__attribute__((user))" breaks the parsing in libtraceevent. That needs
to be handled.

The tep_register_trace_clock() API is used to instruct the traceevent
library how to print the event time stamps. As event print interface if
redesigned, this API is not needed any more. The new event print API is
flexible and the user can specify how the time stamps are printed.

Libtraceevent APIs for printing various trace events information are
complicated, there are complex extra parameters. To control the way
event information is printed, the user should call a set of functions in
a specific sequence.
These APIs are reimplemented to provide a more simple interface for
printing event information.
Removed APIs:
tep_print_event_task()
tep_print_event_time()
tep_print_event_data()
tep_event_info()
tep_is_latency_format()
tep_set_latency_format()
tep_data_latency_format()
tep_set_print_raw()
A new API for printing event information is introduced:
void tep_print_event(struct tep_handle *tep, struct trace_seq *s,
struct tep_record *record, const char *fmt, ...);
where "fmt" is a printf-like format string, followed by the event
fields to be printed. Supported fields:
TEP_PRINT_PID, "%d" - event PID
TEP_PRINT_CPU, "%d" - event CPU
TEP_PRINT_COMM, "%s" - event command string
TEP_PRINT_NAME, "%s" - event name
TEP_PRINT_LATENCY, "%s" - event latency
TEP_PRINT_TIME, %d - event time stamp. A divisor and precision
can be specified as part of this format string:
"%precision.divisord". Example:
"%3.1000d" - divide the time by 1000 and print the first 3 digits
before the dot. Thus, the time stamp "123456000" will be printed as
"123.456"
TEP_PRINT_INFO, "%s" - event information.
TEP_PRINT_INFO_RAW, "%s" - event information, in raw format.
Example:
tep_print_event(tep, s, record, "%16s-%-5d [%03d] %s %6.1000d %s %s",
TEP_PRINT_COMM, TEP_PRINT_PID, TEP_PRINT_CPU,
TEP_PRINT_LATENCY, TEP_PRINT_TIME, TEP_PRINT_NAME, TEP_PRINT_INFO);
Output:
ls-11314 [005] d.h. 185207.366383 function __wake_up

While reading a trace data file that had 100,000s of tasks, the process
took an extremely long time. I profiled it down to add_new_comm(), which
was doing a qsort() call on an array that was pretty much already sorted
(all but the last element. qsort() isn't very efficient when dealing
with mostly sorted arrays, and this definitely showed its issues.
When adding a new task to the task list, instead of using qsort(), do
another bsearch() with a function that will find the element before
where the new task will be inserted in. Then simply shift the rest of
the array, and insert the task where it belongs.

If the re-allocation of tep->cmdlines succeeds, then the previous
allocation of tep->cmdlines will be freed. If we later fail in
add_new_comm(), we must not free cmdlines, and also should assign
tep->cmdlines to the new allocation. Otherwise when freeing tep, the
tep->cmdlines will be pointing to garbage.

There was a missing comparison with 0 when checking if type is "s64" or
"u64". Therefore, the body of the if-statement was entered if "type" was
"u64" or not "s64", which made the first strcmp() redundant since if
type is "u64", it's not "s64".
If type is "s64", the body of the if-statement is not entered but since
the remainder of the function consists of if-statements which will not
be entered if type is "s64", we will just return "val", which is
correct, albeit at the cost of a few more calls to strcmp(), i.e., it
will behave just as if the if-statement was entered.
If type is neither "s64" or "u64", the body of the if-statement will be
entered incorrectly and "val" returned. This means that any type that is
checked after "s64" and "u64" is handled the same way as "s64" and
"u64", i.e., the limiting of "val" to fit in for example "s8" is never
reached.
This was introduced in the kernel tree when the sources were copied from
trace-cmd in commit f7d82350e597 ("tools/events: Add files to create
libtraceevent.a"), and in the trace-cmd repo in 1cdbae6035cei
("Implement typecasting in parser") when the function was introduced,
i.e., it has always behaved the wrong way.

libtraceevent from pevent to tep
"pevent" to "tep" renaming of:
- all "pevent" input arguments of libtraceevent internal functions.
- all local "pevent" variables of libtraceevent.
This makes the implementation consistent with the chosen naming
convention, tep (trace event parser), and will avoid any confusion with
the old pevent name

Rename some traceevent APIs for consistency:
tep_pid_is_registered() to tep_is_pid_registered()
tep_file_bigendian() to tep_is_file_bigendian()
to make the names and return values consistent with other tep_is_... APIs
tep_data_lat_fmt() to tep_data_latency_format()
to make the name more descriptive
tep_host_bigendian() to tep_is_bigendian()
tep_set_host_bigendian() to tep_set_local_bigendian()
tep_is_host_bigendian() to tep_is_local_bigendian()
"host" can be confused with VMs, and "local" is about the local
machine. All tep_is_..._bigendian(struct tep_handle *tep) APIs return
the saved data in the tep handle, while tep_is_bigendian() returns
the running machine's endianness.

Existing API tep_list_events() is not thread safe, it uses the internal
array sort_events to keep cache of the sorted events and reuses it. This
patch implements a new API, tep_list_events_copy(), which allocates new
sorted array each time it is called. It could be used when a sorted
events functionality is needed in thread safe use cases. It is up to the

With security updates, %p in the kernel is hashed to protect true kernel
locations. But trace_printk() is not allowed in production systems, and
when a pointer is used, there are many times that the actual address is
needed. "%px" produces the real address. But libtraceevent does not know how
to handle that extension. Add it.

In order to make libtraceevent into a proper library, its API
should be straightforward.
The tep_register_event_handler() functions returns -1 in case it
successfully registers the new event handler. Such return code is used
by the other library APIs in case of an error.
To unify the return logic of tep_register_event_handler() with the other
APIs, this patch introduces enum tep_reg_handler, which is used by this
function as return value, to handle all possible successful return
cases.

local header file
As traceevent is going to be transferred into a proper library,
its local data should be protected from the library users.
This patch encapsulates struct tep_handler into a local header,
not visible outside of the library. It implements also a bunch
of new APIs, which library users can use to access tep_handler members.

While working on having PowerTop use libtracevent as a shared object
library, Tzvetomir hit "str_error_r not defined". This was added by commit
c3cec9e68f12d ("tools lib traceevent: Use str_error_r()") because
strerror_r() has two definitions, where one is GNU specific, and the other
is XSI complient. The strerror_r() is in a wrapper str_error_r() to keep the
code from having to worry about which compiler is being used.
The problem is that str_error_r() is external to libtraceevent, and not part
of the library. If it is used as a shared object then the tools using it
will need to define that function. I do not want that function defined in
libtraceevent itself, as it is out of scope for that library.
As there's only a single instance of this call, and its in the traceevent
library's own tep_strerror() function, we can copy what was done in perf,
and create yet another external file that undefs _GNU_SOURCE to use the more
portable version of the function. We don't need to worry about the errors
that strerror_r() returns. If the buffer isn't big enough, we simply
truncate it.

In order to make libtraceevent into a proper library, variables, data
structures and functions require a unique prefix to prevent name space
conflicts. That prefix will be "tep_". This renames data2host*() APIs

tep_print_arg_type
In order to make libtraceevent into a proper library, variables, data
structures and functions require a unique prefix to prevent name space
conflicts. That prefix will be "tep_". This renames enum print_arg_type to
enum tep_print_arg_type and add prefix TEP_ to all its members.
