Otherwise the numid field of active_id, format_id, rate_id and channels_id will be the same (0) and snd_ctl_notify() will not queue the events properly. [ Upstream commit b4748e7ab731e436cf5db4786358ada5dd2db6dd ] The function snd_opl3_drum_switch declaration in the header file has the order of the two arguments on_off and vel swapped when compared to the definition arguments of vel and on_off. Fix this by swapping them around to match the definition. This error predates the git history, so no idea when this error was introduced. commit 8e6b1a72a75bb5067ccb6b56d8ca4aa3a300a64e upstream. In loopback_open() and loopback_close(), we assign and release the substream object to the corresponding cable in a racy way. It's neither locked nor done in the right position. The open callback assigns the substream before its preparation finishes, hence the other side of the cable may pick it up, which may lead to the invalid memory access. This patch addresses these: move the assignment to the end of the open callback, and wrap with cable->lock for avoiding concurrent accesses. 2018-03-28ALSA: aloop: Sync stale timer before releaseTakashi Iwai1-1/+8
commit 67a01afaf3d34893cf7d2ea19b34555d6abb7cb0 upstream. The aloop driver tries to stop the pending timer via timer_del() in the trigger callback and in the close callback. The former is correct, as it's an atomic operation, while the latter expects that the timer gets really removed and proceeds the resource releases after that. But timer_del() doesn't synchronize, hence the running timer may still access the released resources. A similar situation can be also seen in the prepare callback after trigger(STOP) where the prepare tries to re-initialize the things while a timer is still running. The problems like the above are seen indirectly in some syzkaller reports (although it's not 100% clear whether this is the only cause, as the race condition is quite narrow and not always easy to trigger). For addressing these issues, this patch adds the explicit alls of timer_del_sync() in some places, so that the pending timer is properly killed / synced. 2018-01-17ALSA: aloop: Fix racy hw constraints adjustmentTakashi Iwai1-30/+21
commit 898dfe4687f460ba337a01c11549f87269a13fa2 upstream. The aloop driver tries to update the hw constraints of the connected target on the cable of the opened PCM substream. This is done by adding the extra hw constraints rules referring to the substream runtime->hw fields, while the other substream may update the runtime hw of another side on the fly. This is, however, racy and may result in the inconsistent values when both PCM streams perform the prepare concurrently. One of the reason is that it overwrites the other's runtime->hw field; which is not only racy but also broken when it's called before the open of another side finishes. And, since the reference to runtime->hw isn't protected, the concurrent write may give the partial value update and become inconsistent. This patch is an attempt to fix and clean up: - The prepare doesn't change the runtime->hw of other side any longer, but only update the cable->hw that is referred commonly. - The extra rules refer to the loopback_pcm object instead of the runtime->hw. The actual hw is deduced from cable->hw. - The extra rules take the cable_lock to protect against the race. 2018-01-17ALSA: aloop: Fix inconsistent format due to incomplete ruleTakashi Iwai1-7/+6

The extra hw constraint rule for the formats the aloop driver introduced has a slight flaw, where it doesn't return a positive value when the mask got changed. It came from the fact that it's basically a copy&paste from snd_hw_constraint_mask64(). The original code is supposed to be a single-shot and it modifies the mask bits only once and never after, while what we need for aloop is the dynamic hw rule that limits the mask bits. This difference results in the inconsistent state, as the hw_refine doesn't apply the dependencies fully. The worse and surprisingly result is that it causes a crash in OSS emulation when multiple full-duplex reads/writes are performed concurrently (I leave why it triggers Oops to readers as a homework). For fixing this, replace a few open-codes with the standard snd_mask_*() macros. This doesn't mean any memory leak, but it still keeps the invalid pointer that may be referred by the another side of the cable spontaneously, which is a potential Oops cause. 2016-02-17ALSA: dummy: Implement timer backend switching more safelyTakashi Iwai1-18/+19
commit ddce57a6f0a2d8d1bfacfa77f06043bc760403c2 upstream. Currently the selected timer backend is referred at any moment from the running PCM callbacks. When the backend is switched, it's possible to lead to inconsistency from the running backend. This was pointed by syzkaller fuzzer, and the commit [7ee96216c31a: ALSA: dummy: Disable switching timer backend via sysfs] disabled the dynamic switching for avoiding the crash. This patch improves the handling of timer backend switching. It keeps the reference to the selected backend during the whole operation of an opened stream so that it won't be changed by other streams. Together with this change, the hrtimer parameter is reenabled as writable now. NOTE: this patch also turned out to fix the still remaining race. Namely, ops was still replaced dynamically at dummy_pcm_open: static int dummy_pcm_open(struct snd_pcm_substream *substream) { .... dummy->timer_ops = &dummy_systimer_ops; if (hrtimer) dummy->timer_ops = &dummy_hrtimer_ops; Since dummy->timer_ops is common among all streams, and when the replacement happens during accesses of other streams, it may lead to a crash. This was actually triggered by syzkaller fuzzer and KASAN. This patch rewrites the code not to use the ops shared by all streams any longer, too. 2016-02-17ALSA: dummy: Disable switching timer backend via sysfsTakashi Iwai1-1/+1
commit 7ee96216c31aabe1eb42fb91ff50dae9fcd014b2 upstream. ALSA dummy driver can switch the timer backend between system timer and hrtimer via its hrtimer module option. This can be also switched dynamically via sysfs, but it may lead to a memory corruption when switching is done while a PCM stream is running; the stream instance for the newly switched timer method tries to access the memory that was allocated by another timer method although the sizes differ. As the simplest fix, this patch just disables the switch via sysfs by dropping the writable bit. 2015-02-12ALSA: seq: Define driver object in each driverTakashi Iwai2-39/+28
This patch moves the driver object initialization and allocation to each driver's module init/exit code like other normal drivers. The snd_seq_driver struct is now published in seq_device.h, and each driver is responsible to define it with proper driver attributes (name, probe and remove) with snd_seq_driver specific attributes as id and argsize fields.
