2025-06-04ALSA: seq: Improve data consistency at pollingTakashi Iwai2-4/+2
[ Upstream commit e3cd33ab17c33bd8f1a9df66ec83a15dd8f7afbb ] snd_seq_poll() calls snd_seq_write_pool_allocated() that reads out a field in client->pool object, while it can be updated concurrently via ioctls, as reported by syzbot. The data race itself is harmless, as it's merely a poll() call, and the state is volatile. OTOH, the read out of poll object info from the caller side is fragile, and we can leave it better in snd_seq_pool_poll_wait() alone. A similar pattern is seen in snd_seq_kernel_client_write_poll(), too, which is called from the OSS sequencer. This patch drops the pool checks from the caller side and add the pool->lock in snd_seq_pool_poll_wait() for better data consistency. 2025-05-22ALSA: seq: Fix delivery of UMP events to group portsTakashi Iwai3-19/+52
[ Upstream commit ff7b190aef6cccdb6f14d20c5753081fe6420e0b ] When an event with UMP message is sent to a UMP client, the EP port receives always no matter where the event is sent to, as it's a catch-all port. OTOH, if an event is sent to EP port, and if the event has a certain UMP Group, it should have been delivered to the associated UMP Group port, too, but this was ignored, so far. This patch addresses the behavior. Now a UMP event sent to the Endpoint port will be delivered to the subscribers of the UMP group port the event is associated with. The patch also does a bit of refactoring to simplify the code about __deliver_to_subscribers(). 2025-03-13ALSA: seq: Avoid module auto-load handling at event deliveryTakashi Iwai1-16/+30
commit c9ce148ea753bef66686460fa3cec6641cdfbb9f upstream. snd_seq_client_use_ptr() is supposed to return the snd_seq_client object for the given client ID, and it tries to handle the module auto-loading when no matching object is found. Although the module handling is performed only conditionally with "!in_interrupt()", this condition may be fragile, e.g. when the code is called from the ALSA timer callback where the spinlock is temporarily disabled while the irq is disabled. Then his doesn't fit well and spews the error about sleep from invalid context, as complained recently by syzbot. Also, in general, handling the module-loading at each time if no matching object is found is really an overkill. It can be still useful when performed at the top-level ioctl or proc reads, but it shouldn't be done at event delivery at all. For addressing the issues above, this patch disables the module handling in snd_seq_client_use_ptr() in normal cases like event deliveries, but allow only in limited and safe situations. A new function client_load_and_use_ptr() is used for the cases where the module loading can be done safely, instead. 2025-02-27ALSA: seq: Drop UMP events when no UMP-conversion is setTakashi Iwai1-3/+9
[ Upstream commit e77aa4b2eaa7fb31b2a7a50214ecb946b2a8b0f6 ] When a destination client is a user client in the legacy MIDI mode and it sets the no-UMP-conversion flag, currently the all UMP events are still passed as-is. But this may confuse the user-space, because the event packet size is different from the legacy mode. Since we cannot handle UMP events in user clients unless it's running in the UMP client mode, we should filter out those events instead of accepting blindly. This patch addresses it by slightly adjusting the conditions for UMP event handling at the event delivery time. 2025-02-08ALSA: seq: Make dependency on UMP clearerTakashi Iwai1-2/+2
[ Upstream commit 9001d515443518d72222ba4d58e247696b625071 ] CONFIG_SND_SEQ_UMP_CLIENT is a Kconfig for a sequencer client corresponding to the UMP rawmidi, while we have another major knob CONFIG_SND_SEQ_UMP that specifies whether the sequencer core supports UMP packets or not. Strictly speaking both of them are independent, but practically seen, it makes no sense to enable CONFIG_SND_SEQ_UMP_CLIENT without UMP support itself. This patch makes such an implicit dependency clearer. Now CONFIG_SND_SEQ_UMP_CLIENT depends on both CONFIG_SND_UMP and CONFIG_SND_SEQ_UMP. Meanwhile, CONFIG_SND_SEQ_UMP is enabled as default when CONFIG_SND_UMP is set. 2025-01-09ALSA: seq: oss: Fix races at processing SysEx messagesTakashi Iwai1-0/+2
commit 0179488ca992d79908b8e26b9213f1554fc5bacc upstream. OSS sequencer handles the SysEx messages split in 6 bytes packets, and ALSA sequencer OSS layer tries to combine those. It stores the data in the internal buffer and this access is racy as of now, which may lead to the out-of-bounds access. As a temporary band-aid fix, introduce a mutex for serializing the process of the SysEx message packets. 2024-12-14ALSA: seq: ump: Fix seq port updates per FB info notifyTakashi Iwai1-3/+3
[ Upstream commit aaa55faa2495320e44bc643a917c701f2cc89ee7 ] update_port_infos() is called when a UMP FB Info update notification is received, and this function is supposed to update the attributes of the corresponding sequencer port. However, the function had a few issues and it brought to the incorrect states. Namely: - It tried to get a wrong sequencer info for the update without correcting the port number with the group-offset 1 - The loop exited immediately when a sequencer port isn't present; this ended up with the truncation if a sequencer port in the middle goes away This patch addresses those bugs. [ Upstream commit 0642a3c5cacc0321c755d45ae48f2c84475469a6 ] We had a nice name scheme in ALSA sequencer UMP binding for each sequencer port referring to each assigned Function Block name, while the legacy rawmidi refers only to the UMP Endpoint name. It's better to align both. This patch moves the UMP Group attribute update functions into the core UMP code from the sequencer binding code, and improve the substream name of the legacy rawmidi. 2024-08-11ALSA: seq: ump: Optimize conversions from SysEx to UMPTakashi Iwai1-14/+23
commit 952b13c215234855d75ef4b5bb0138075e73677c upstream. The current conversion from the legacy SysEx event to UMP SysEx packet in the sequencer core has a couple of issues: * The first packet trims the SysEx start byte (0xf0), hence it contains only 5 bytes instead of 6. This isn't wrong, per specification, but it's strange not to fill 6 bytes. * When the SysEx end marker (0xf7) is placed at the first byte of the next packet, it'll end up with an empty data just with the END status. It can be rather folded into the previous packet with the END status. This patch tries to address those issues. The first packet may have 6 bytes even with the SysEx start, and an empty packet with the SysEx end marker is omitted. 2024-07-27ALSA: seq: ump: Skip useless ports for static blocksTakashi Iwai1-0/+16
commit 3bfd7c0ba184de99e9f5083b29e5308f30767265 upstream. When the UMP Endpoint is configured with static blocks, the block configuration will never change, hence the unused ports will be unchanged as well. Creating sequencer ports for those unused ports is simply useless, and it might be rather confusing for users. The idea behind the inactive ports was for allowing connections from/to ports that can become usable later, but this will never happen for inactive groups in static blocks. Let's change the sequencer UMP binding to skip those unused ports when the UMP EP is with static blocks. 2023-09-12ALSA: seq: Avoid delivery of events for disabled UMP groupsTakashi Iwai2-0/+24
ALSA sequencer core still delivers events to the disabled UMP Group, leaving this handling to the device. But it's rather risky and it's easy to imagine that such an unexpected event may screw up the device firmware. This patch avoids the superfluous event deliveries by setting the group_filter of the UMP client as default, and evaluate the group_filter properly at delivery from non-UMP clients. The grouop_filter is updated upon the dynamic UMP Function Block updates, so that it follows the change of the disabled UMP Groups, too. 2023-06-12ALSA: seq: ump: Handle groupless messagesTakashi Iwai2-1/+7
The UMP Utility and Stream messages are "groupless", i.e. an incoming groupless packet should be sent only to the UMP EP port, and the event with the groupless message is sent to UMP EP as is without the group translation per port. Also, the former reserved bit 0 for the client group filter is now used for groupless events. When the bit 0 is set, the groupless events are filtered out and skipped. 2023-06-05ALSA: seq: Avoid confusion of aligned read sizeTakashi Iwai1-1/+1
Currently the read event packet size in snd_seq_read() is defined by client->midi_version value that is guaranteed to be zero if UMP isn't enabled. Add the more explicit check of CONFIG_SND_SEQ_UMP to determine the aligned_size value for avoiding the confusion. 2023-05-23ALSA: seq: Add UMP group filterTakashi Iwai3-0/+16
Add a new filter bitmap for UMP groups for reducing the unnecessary read/write when the client is connected to UMP EP seq port. The new group_filter field contains the bitmap for the groups, i.e. when the bit is set, the corresponding group is filtered out and the messages to that group won't be delivered. The filter bitmap consists of each bit of 1-based UMP Group number. The bit 0 is reserved for the future use. 2023-05-23ALSA: seq: ump: Create UMP Endpoint port for broadcastTakashi Iwai1-0/+60
Create a sequencer port for broadcasting the all group inputs at the port number 0. This corresponds to a UMP Endpoint connection; application can read all UMP events from this port no matter which group the UMP packet belongs to. Unlike seq ports for other UMP groups, a UMP Endpoint port has no SND_SEQ_PORT_TYPE_MIDI_GENERIC bit, so that it won't be treated as a normal MIDI 1.0 device from legacy applications. The port is named as "MIDI 2.0" to align with representations on other operation systems. 2023-05-23ALSA: seq: Bind UMP deviceTakashi Iwai3-0/+396
This patch introduces a new ALSA sequencer client for the kernel UMP object, snd-seq-ump-client. It's a UMP version of snd-seq-midi driver, while this driver creates a sequencer client per UMP endpoint which contains (fixed) 16 ports. The UMP rawmidi device is opened in APPEND mode for output, so that multiple sequencer clients can share the same UMP endpoint, as well as the legacy UMP rawmidi devices that are opened in APPEND mode, too. For input, on the other hand, the incoming data is processed on the fly in the dedicated hook, hence it doesn't open a rawmidi device. The UMP packet group is updated upon delivery depending on the target sequencer port (which corresponds to the actual UMP group). Each sequencer port sets a new port type bit, SNDRV_SEQ_PORT_TYPE_MIDI_UMP, in addition to the other standard types for MIDI.
