2023-03-11ima: Align ima_file_mmap() parameters with mmap_file LSM hookRoberto Sassu1-2/+5
commit 4971c268b85e1c7a734a61622fc0813c86e2362e upstream. Commit 98de59bfe4b2f ("take calculation of final prot in security_mmap_file() into a helper") moved the code to update prot, to be the actual protections applied to the kernel, to a new helper called mmap_prot(). However, while without the helper ima_file_mmap() was getting the updated prot, with the helper ima_file_mmap() gets the original prot, which contains the protections requested by the application. A possible consequence of this change is that, if an application calls mmap() with only PROT_READ, and the kernel applies PROT_EXEC in addition, that application would have access to executable memory without having this event recorded in the IMA measurement list. This situation would occur for example if the application, before mmap(), calls the personality() system call with READ_IMPLIES_EXEC as the first argument. Align ima_file_mmap() parameters with those of the mmap_file LSM hook, so that IMA can receive both the requested prot and the final prot. Since the requested protections are stored in a new variable, and the final protections are stored in the existing variable, this effectively restores the original behavior of the MMAP_CHECK hook. 2023-01-18ima: Handle -ESTALE returned by ima_filter_rule_match()GUO Zihua1-9/+32
[ Upstream commit c7423dbdbc9ecef7fff5239d144cad4b9887f4de ] IMA relies on the blocking LSM policy notifier callback to update the LSM based IMA policy rules. When SELinux update its policies, IMA would be notified and starts updating all its lsm rules one-by-one. During this time, -ESTALE would be returned by ima_filter_rule_match() if it is called with a LSM rule that has not yet been updated. In ima_match_rules(), -ESTALE is not handled, and the LSM rule is considered a match, causing extra files to be measured by IMA. Fix it by re-initializing a temporary rule if -ESTALE is returned by ima_filter_rule_match(). The origin rule in the rule list would be updated by the LSM policy notifier callback. 2022-07-29ima: remove the IMA_TEMPLATE Kconfig optionGUO Zihua1-7/+5
[ Upstream commit 891163adf180bc369b2f11c9dfce6d2758d2a5bd ] The original 'ima' measurement list template contains a hash, defined as 20 bytes, and a null terminated pathname, limited to 255 characters. Other measurement list templates permit both larger hashes and longer pathnames. When the "ima" template is configured as the default, a new measurement list template (ima_template=) must be specified before specifying a larger hash algorithm (ima_hash=) on the boot command line. To avoid this boot command line ordering issue, remove the legacy "ima" template configuration option, allowing it to still be specified on the boot command line. The root cause of this issue is that during the processing of ima_hash, we would try to check whether the hash algorithm is compatible with the template. If the template is not set at the moment we do the check, we check the algorithm against the configured default template. If the default template is "ima", then we reject any hash algorithm other than sha1 and md5. For example, if the compiled default template is "ima", and the default algorithm is sha1 (which is the current default). In the cmdline, we put in "ima_hash=sha256 ima_template=ima-ng". The expected behavior would be that ima starts with ima-ng as the template and sha256 as the hash algorithm. However, during the processing of "ima_hash=", "ima_template=" has not been processed yet, and hash_setup would check the configured hash algorithm against the compiled default: ima, and reject sha256. So at the end, the hash algorithm that is actually used will be sha1. With template "ima" removed from the configured default, we ensure that the default tempalte would at least be "ima-ng" which allows for basically any hash algorithm. This change would not break the algorithm compatibility checks for IMA. 2022-07-29lockdown: Fix kexec lockdown bypass with ima policyEric Snowberg1-0/+4
commit 543ce63b664e2c2f9533d089a4664b559c3e6b5b upstream. The lockdown LSM is primarily used in conjunction with UEFI Secure Boot. This LSM may also be used on machines without UEFI. It can also be enabled when UEFI Secure Boot is disabled. One of lockdown's features is to prevent kexec from loading untrusted kernels. Lockdown can be enabled through a bootparam or after the kernel has booted through securityfs. If IMA appraisal is used with the "ima_appraise=log" boot param, lockdown can be defeated with kexec on any machine when Secure Boot is disabled or unavailable. IMA prevents setting "ima_appraise=log" from the boot param when Secure Boot is enabled, but this does not cover cases where lockdown is used without Secure Boot. To defeat lockdown, boot without Secure Boot and add ima_appraise=log to the kernel command line; then: $ echo "integrity" > /sys/kernel/security/lockdown $ echo "appraise func=KEXEC_KERNEL_CHECK appraise_type=imasig" > \ /sys/kernel/security/ima/policy $ kexec -ls unsigned-kernel Add a call to verify ima appraisal is set to "enforce" whenever lockdown is enabled. Commit ccf11dbaa07b ("evm: Fix memleak in init_desc") said there is memleak in init_desc. That may be incorrect, as we can see, tmp_tfm is saved in one of the two global variables hmac_tfm or evm_tfm[hash_algo], then if init_desc is called next time, there is no need to alloc tfm again, so in the error path of kmalloc desc or crypto_shash_init(desc), It is not a problem without freeing tmp_tfm. And also that commit did not reset the global variable to NULL after freeing tmp_tfm and this makes *tfm a dangling pointer which may cause a UAF issue. Commit c2426d2ad5027 ("ima: added support for new kernel cmdline parameter ima_template_fmt") introduced an additional check on the ima_template variable to avoid multiple template selection. Unfortunately, ima_template could be also set by the setup function of the ima_hash= parameter, when it calls ima_template_desc_current(). This causes attempts to choose a new template with ima_template= or with ima_template_fmt=, after ima_hash=, to be ignored. Achieve the goal of the commit mentioned with the new static variable template_setup_done, so that template selection requests after ima_hash= are not ignored. Finally, call ima_init_template_list(), if not already done, to initialize the list of templates before lookup_template_desc() is called. 2021-09-15IMA: remove the dependency on CRYPTO_MD5THOBY Simon1-1/+0
commit 8510505d55e194d3f6c9644c9f9d12c4f6b0395a upstream. MD5 is a weak digest algorithm that shouldn't be used for cryptographic operation. It hinders the efficiency of a patch set that aims to limit the digests allowed for the extended file attribute namely security.ima. MD5 is no longer a requirement for IMA, nor should it be used there. The sole place where we still use the MD5 algorithm inside IMA is setting the ima_hash algorithm to MD5, if the user supplies 'ima_hash=md5' parameter on the command line. With commit ab60368ab6a4 ("ima: Fallback to the builtin hash algorithm"), setting "ima_hash=md5" fails gracefully when CRYPTO_MD5 is not set: ima: Can not allocate md5 (reason: -2) ima: Allocating md5 failed, going to use default hash algorithm sha256 Remove the CRYPTO_MD5 dependency for IMA. EVM_ALLOW_METADATA_WRITES is an EVM initialization flag that can be set to temporarily disable metadata verification until all xattrs/attrs necessary to verify an EVM portable signature are copied to the file. This flag is cleared when EVM is initialized with an HMAC key, to avoid that the HMAC is calculated on unverified xattrs/attrs. Currently EVM unnecessarily denies setting this flag if EVM is initialized with a public key, which is not a concern as it cannot be used to trust xattrs/attrs updates. This patch removes this limitation. 2021-07-14evm: Execute evm_inode_init_security() only when an HMAC key is loadedRoberto Sassu1-2/+3
commit 9eea2904292c2d8fa98df141d3bf7c41ec9dc1b5 upstream. evm_inode_init_security() requires an HMAC key to calculate the HMAC on initial xattrs provided by LSMs. However, it checks generically whether a key has been loaded, including also public keys, which is not correct as public keys are not suitable to calculate the HMAC. Originally, support for signature verification was introduced to verify a possibly immutable initial ram disk, when no new files are created, and to switch to HMAC for the root filesystem. By that time, an HMAC key should have been loaded and usable to calculate HMACs for new files. More recently support for requiring an HMAC key was removed from the kernel, so that signature verification can be used alone. Since this is a legitimate use case, evm_inode_init_security() should not return an error when no HMAC key has been loaded. This patch fixes this problem by replacing the evm_key_loaded() check with a check of the EVM_INIT_HMAC flag in evm_initialized. The Secure Boot Forbidden Signature Database, dbx, contains a list of now revoked signatures and keys previously approved to boot with UEFI Secure Boot enabled. The dbx is capable of containing any number of EFI_CERT_X509_SHA256_GUID, EFI_CERT_SHA256_GUID, and EFI_CERT_X509_GUID entries. Currently when EFI_CERT_X509_GUID are contained in the dbx, the entries are skipped. Add support for EFI_CERT_X509_GUID dbx entries. When a EFI_CERT_X509_GUID is found, it is added as an asymmetrical key to the .blacklist keyring. Anytime the .platform keyring is used, the keys in the .blacklist keyring are referenced, if a matching key is found, the key will be rejected. 2021-03-04certs: Fix blacklist flag type confusionDavid Howells1-3/+2
[ Upstream commit 4993e1f9479a4161fd7d93e2b8b30b438f00cb0f ] KEY_FLAG_KEEP is not meant to be passed to keyring_alloc() or key_alloc(), as these only take KEY_ALLOC_* flags. KEY_FLAG_KEEP has the same value as KEY_ALLOC_BYPASS_RESTRICTION, but fortunately only key_create_or_update() uses it. LSMs using the key_alloc hook don't check that flag. KEY_FLAG_KEEP is then ignored but fortunately (again) the root user cannot write to the blacklist keyring, so it is not possible to remove a key/hash from it. Fix this by adding a KEY_ALLOC_SET_KEEP flag that tells key_alloc() to set KEY_FLAG_KEEP on the new key. blacklist_init() can then, correctly, pass this to keyring_alloc(). We can also use this in ima_mok_init() rather than setting the flag manually. Note that this doesn't fix an observable bug with the current implementation but it is required to allow addition of new hashes to the blacklist in the future without making it possible for them to be removed. Commit a408e4a86b36b ("ima: open a new file instance if no read permissions") already introduced a second open to measure a file when the original file descriptor does not allow it. However, it didn't remove the existing method of changing the mode of the original file descriptor, which is still necessary if the current process does not have enough privileges to open a new one. Changing the mode isn't really an option, as the filesystem might need to do preliminary steps to make the read possible. Thus, this patch removes the code and keeps the second open as the only option to measure a file when it is unreadable with the original file descriptor. 2020-06-22ima: Switch to ima_hash_algo for boot aggregateRoberto Sassu2-11/+58
commit 6f1a1d103b48b1533a9c804e7a069e2c8e937ce7 upstream. boot_aggregate is the first entry of IMA measurement list. Its purpose is to link pre-boot measurements to IMA measurements. As IMA was designed to work with a TPM 1.2, the SHA1 PCR bank was always selected even if a TPM 2.0 with support for stronger hash algorithms is available. This patch first tries to find a PCR bank with the IMA default hash algorithm. If it does not find it, it selects the SHA256 PCR bank for TPM 2.0 and SHA1 for TPM 1.2. Ultimately, it selects SHA1 also for TPM 2.0 if the SHA256 PCR bank is not found. If none of the PCR banks above can be found, boot_aggregate file digest is filled with zeros, as for TPM bypass, making it impossible to perform a remote attestation of the system. Function hash_long() accepts unsigned long, while currently only one byte is passed from ima_hash_key(), which calculates a key for ima_htable. Given that hashing the digest does not give clear benefits compared to using the digest itself, remove hash_long() and return the modulus calculated on the first two bytes of the digest with the number of slots. Also reduce the depth of the hash table by doubling the number of slots. Both conditions would be false even though the pointer at the end was NULL. This patch fixes the problem by ensuring that "*tfm" can only be NULL or valid. I have introduced a "tmp_tfm" variable to make that work. I also reversed a condition and pulled the code in one tab.
