2007-05-04[NET]: Rework dev_base via list_head (v3)Pavel Emelianov1-2/+3
Cleanup of dev_base list use, with the aim to simplify making device list per-namespace. In almost every occasion, use of dev_base variable and dev->next pointer could be easily replaced by for_each_netdev loop. A few most complicated places were converted to using first_netdev()/next_netdev(). 2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_copy_to_linear_data{_offset}Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-2/+2
To clearly state the intent of copying to linear sk_buffs, _offset being a overly long variant but interesting for the sake of saving some bytes. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@ghostprotocols.net>
2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_copy_from_linear_data{_offset}Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo4-6/+7

2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: More skb_put related conversions to skb_reset_transport_headerArnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-4/+3
This is similar to the skb_reset_network_header(), i.e. at the point we reset the transport header pointer/offset skb->tail is equal to skb->data. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_reset_transport_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo3-5/+5
For the common, open coded 'skb->h.raw = skb->data' operation, so that we can later turn skb->h.raw into a offset, reducing the size of struct sk_buff in 64bit land while possibly keeping it as a pointer on 32bit. This one touches just the most simple cases: skb->h.raw = skb->data; skb->h.raw = {skb_push|[__]skb_pull}() The next ones will handle the slightly more "complex" cases. 2007-04-26[NET]: Introduce SIOCGSTAMPNS ioctl to get timestamps with nanosec resolutionEric Dumazet1-0/+6
Now network timestamps use ktime_t infrastructure, we can add a new ioctl() SIOCGSTAMPNS command to get timestamps in 'struct timespec'. User programs can thus access to nanosecond resolution. 2007-02-14[PATCH] sysctl: remove insert_at_head from register_sysctlEric W. Biederman1-1/+1
The semantic effect of insert_at_head is that it would allow new registered sysctl entries to override existing sysctl entries of the same name. Which is pain for caching and the proc interface never implemented. I have done an audit and discovered that none of the current users of register_sysctl care as (excpet for directories) they do not register duplicate sysctl entries. So this patch simply removes the support for overriding existing entries in the sys_sysctl interface since no one uses it or cares and it makes future enhancments harder. Signed-off-by: Eric W. 2007-02-14[PATCH] sysctl: netrom: remove unnecessary insert_at_head flagEric W. Biederman1-1/+1

2007-02-14[PATCH] remove many unneeded #includes of sched.hTim Schmielau5-5/+0
After Al Viro (finally) succeeded in removing the sched.h #include in module.h recently, it makes sense again to remove other superfluous sched.h includes. There are quite a lot of files which include it but don't actually need anything defined in there. Presumably these includes were once needed for macros that used to live in sched.h, but moved to other header files in the course of cleaning it up. To ease the pain, this time I did not fiddle with any header files and only removed #includes from .c-files, which tend to cause less trouble. Compile tested against 2.6.20-rc2 and 2.6.20-rc2-mm2 (with offsets) on alpha, arm, i386, ia64, mips, powerpc, and x86_64 with allnoconfig, defconfig, allmodconfig, and allyesconfig as well as a few randconfigs on x86_64 and all configs in arch/arm/configs on arm. I also checked that no new warnings were introduced by the patch (actually, some warnings are removed that were emitted by unnecessarily included header files). 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 8Arjan van de Ven2-3/+3
Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-12-18[AX.25]: Fix unchecked ax25_linkfail_register usesRalf Baechle1-2/+6
ax25_linkfail_register uses kmalloc and the callers were ignoring the error value. Rewrite to let the caller deal with the allocation. 2006-12-18[AX.25]: Fix unchecked ax25_protocol_register uses.Ralf Baechle1-1/+6

2006-12-18[AX.25]: Mark all kmalloc users __must_checkRalf Baechle1-3/+5
The recent fix 0506d4068bad834aab1141b5dc5e748eb175c6b3 made obvious that error values were not being propagated through the AX.25 stack. 2006-07-13[NETROM] lockdep: fix false positiveRalf Baechle1-0/+9
NETROM network devices are virtual network devices encapsulating NETROM frames into AX.25 which will be sent through an AX.25 device, so form a special "super class" of normal net devices; split their locks off into a separate class since they always nest. 2006-07-13[NETROM]: Fix locking order when establishing a NETROM circuit.Ralf Baechle1-6/+6
When establishing a new circuit in nr_rx_frame the locks are taken in a different order than in the rest of the stack. This should be harmless but triggers lockdep. Either way, reordering the code a little solves the issue. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2006-01-04[NET]: Add a dev_ioctl() fallback to sock_ioctl()Christoph Hellwig1-1/+1
Currently all network protocols need to call dev_ioctl as the default fallback in their ioctl implementations. This patch adds a fallback to dev_ioctl to sock_ioctl if the protocol returned -ENOIOCTLCMD. This way all the procotol ioctl handlers can be simplified and we don't need to export dev_ioctl. 2006-01-04[NETROM]: Remove unessecary lock_sock calls in netrom_ioctl()Christoph Hellwig1-5/+5

2006-01-04[NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet1-2/+2
I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2005-10-05[AX.25]: Fix packet socket crashRalf Baechle1-1/+1
Since changeset 98a82febb6340466824c3a453738d4fbd05db81a AX.25 is passing received IP and ARP packets to the stack through netif_rx() but we don't set the skb->mac.raw to right value which may result in a crash with applications that use a packet socket. 2005-09-13[NETROM]: Introduct stuct nr_privateRalf Baechle2-7/+7

2005-09-13[NETROM]: Implement G8PZT Circuit reset for NET/ROMRalf Baechle4-14/+41
NET/ROM is lacking a connection reset like TCP's RST flag which at times may result in a connecting having to slowly timing out instead of just being reset. An earlier attempt to reset the connection by sending a NR_CONNACK | NR_CHOKE_FLAG transport was inacceptable as it did result in crashes of BPQ systems. An alternative approach of introducing a new transport type 7 (NR_RESET) has be implemented several years ago in Paula Jayne Dowie G8PZT's Xrouter. Implement NR_RESET for Linux's NET/ROM but like any messing with the state engine consider this experimental for now and thus control it by a sysctl (net.netrom.reset) which for the time being defaults to off. 2005-09-13[NETROM]: NET/ROM has no ARPRalf Baechle1-1/+1
ARP over NET/ROM does not exist so it's obviously not implemented on any NET/ROM stack, so the NET/ROM interfaces really should default to IFF_NOARP. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle DL5RB <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-09-13[NETROM] NET/ROM has no txqueueRalf Baechle1-1/+0

2005-09-13[NETROM]: statistics fixRalf Baechle1-1/+1
Calling an incoming NET/ROM-encapsulated IP packet an error if the interface isn't up is probably a bit over the top, so count it as dropped instead of an error. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle DL5RB <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-09-13[NETROM]: Fix rebuild header messRalf Baechle1-29/+15
For reason that probably nobody recalls NET/ROM does it's actual packet transmission in nr_rebuild_header and even treats invocation of it's hard_start_xmit method nr_xmit as a bug. Fix that by splitting the job done by nr_rebuild_header into two halves. Along with that we now also can get rid of the silly clone of the skb on transmit. 2005-09-07[AX25]: Make ax2asc thread-proofRalf Baechle2-6/+9

2005-08-30[AX25/NETROM/ROSE]: Kill net/ip.h inclusionRalf Baechle1-1/+0

2005-08-30[AX25/NETROM]: Cleanup direct calls into IP stackRalf Baechle2-6/+4
Get rid of the calls to ip_rcv and arp_rcv which were layering violations anyway. With those being replaced by netif_rx, less parts of AX.25 and relatives depend on INET support actually being enabled. This also will make PF_PACKET sockets work for IP and ARP packets received over AX.25 and for IP packets over NET/ROM. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle DL5RB <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-08-30[TCP]: Move the tcp sock states to net/tcp_states.hArnaldo Carvalho de Melo4-4/+4

2005-08-30[NET]: Kill skb->real_devDavid S. Miller1-1/+1
Bonding just wants the device before the skb_bond() decapsulation occurs, so simply pass that original device into packet_type->func() as an argument. It remains to be seen whether we can use this same exact thing to get rid of skb->input_dev as well. Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
