2007-11-01[NET]: Forget the zero_it argument of sk_alloc()Pavel Emelyanov1-2/+4
Finally, the zero_it argument can be completely removed from the callers and from the function prototype. Besides, fix the checkpatch.pl warnings about using the assignments inside if-s. This patch is rather big, and it is a part of the previous one. I splitted it wishing to make the patches more readable. Hope this particular split helped. 2007-10-11[NET]: Make device event notification network namespace safeEric W. Biederman1-0/+3
Every user of the network device notifiers is either a protocol stack or a pseudo device. If a protocol stack that does not have support for multiple network namespaces receives an event for a device that is not in the initial network namespace it quite possibly can get confused and do the wrong thing. To avoid problems until all of the protocol stacks are converted this patch modifies all netdev event handlers to ignore events on devices that are not in the initial network namespace. As the rest of the code is made network namespace aware these checks can be removed. Signed-off-by: Eric W. Biederman <ebiederm@xmission.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-10-11[NET]: Make socket creation namespace safe.Eric W. Biederman1-3/+6
This patch passes in the namespace a new socket should be created in and has the socket code do the appropriate reference counting. By virtue of this all socket create methods are touched. In addition the socket create methods are modified so that they will fail if you attempt to create a socket in a non-default network namespace. Failing if we attempt to create a socket outside of the default network namespace ensures that as we incrementally make the network stack network namespace aware we will not export functionality that someone has not audited and made certain is network namespace safe. Allowing us to partially enable network namespaces before all of the exotic protocols are supported. Any protocol layers I have missed will fail to compile because I now pass an extra parameter into the socket creation code. 2007-10-11[NET]: Make /proc/net per network namespaceEric W. Biederman1-6/+7
This patch makes /proc/net per network namespace. It modifies the global variables proc_net and proc_net_stat to be per network namespace. The proc_net file helpers are modified to take a network namespace argument, and all of their callers are fixed to pass &init_net for that argument. This ensures that all of the /proc/net files are only visible and usable in the initial network namespace until the code behind them has been updated to be handle multiple network namespaces. Making /proc/net per namespace is necessary as at least some files in /proc/net depend upon the set of network devices which is per network namespace, and even more files in /proc/net have contents that are relevant to a single network namespace. 2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_copy_from_linear_data{_offset}Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-1/+2
To clearly state the intent of copying from linear sk_buffs, _offset being a overly long variant but interesting for the sake of saving some bytes. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com>
2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: More skb_put related conversions to skb_reset_transport_headerArnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-4/+3
This is similar to the skb_reset_network_header(), i.e. at the point we reset the transport header pointer/offset skb->tail is equal to skb->data. Signed-off-by: Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo <acme@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2007-04-26[SK_BUFF]: Introduce skb_reset_transport_header(skb)Arnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-3/+3
For the common, open coded 'skb->h.raw = skb->data' operation, so that we can later turn skb->h.raw into a offset, reducing the size of struct sk_buff in 64bit land while possibly keeping it as a pointer on 32bit. This one touches just the most simple cases: skb->h.raw = skb->data; skb->h.raw = {skb_push|[__]skb_pull}() The next ones will handle the slightly more "complex" cases. 2007-04-26[NET]: Introduce SIOCGSTAMPNS ioctl to get timestamps with nanosec resolutionEric Dumazet1-0/+6
Now network timestamps use ktime_t infrastructure, we can add a new ioctl() SIOCGSTAMPNS command to get timestamps in 'struct timespec'. User programs can thus access to nanosecond resolution. 2007-02-12[PATCH] mark struct file_operations const 8Arjan van de Ven1-1/+1
Many struct file_operations in the kernel can be "const". Marking them const moves these to the .rodata section, which avoids false sharing with potential dirty data. In addition it'll catch accidental writes at compile time to these shared resources. 2006-12-18[AX.25]: Fix unchecked ax25_linkfail_register usesRalf Baechle1-2/+6
ax25_linkfail_register uses kmalloc and the callers were ignoring the error value. Rewrite to let the caller deal with the allocation. This allows the use of static allocation of kmalloc use entirely. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2006-12-18[AX.25]: Fix unchecked ax25_protocol_register uses.Ralf Baechle1-1/+6
Replace ax25_protocol_register by ax25_register_pid which assumes the caller has done the memory allocation. This allows replacing the kmalloc allocations entirely by static allocations. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2006-07-13[NETROM] lockdep: fix false positiveRalf Baechle1-0/+9
NETROM network devices are virtual network devices encapsulating NETROM frames into AX.25 which will be sent through an AX.25 device, so form a special "super class" of normal net devices; split their locks off into a separate class since they always nest. 2006-07-13[NETROM]: Fix locking order when establishing a NETROM circuit.Ralf Baechle1-6/+6
When establishing a new circuit in nr_rx_frame the locks are taken in a different order than in the rest of the stack. This should be harmless but triggers lockdep. Either way, reordering the code a little solves the issue. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2006-01-04[NET]: Add a dev_ioctl() fallback to sock_ioctl()Christoph Hellwig1-1/+1
Currently all network protocols need to call dev_ioctl as the default fallback in their ioctl implementations. This patch adds a fallback to dev_ioctl to sock_ioctl if the protocol returned -ENOIOCTLCMD. This way all the procotol ioctl handlers can be simplified and we don't need to export dev_ioctl. 2006-01-04[NET]: move struct proto_ops to constEric Dumazet1-2/+2
I noticed that some of 'struct proto_ops' used in the kernel may share a cache line used by locks or other heavily modified data. (default linker alignement is 32 bytes, and L1_CACHE_LINE is 64 or 128 at least) This patch makes sure a 'struct proto_ops' can be declared as const, so that all cpus can share all parts of it without false sharing. This is not mandatory : a driver can still use a read/write structure if it needs to (and eventually a __read_mostly) I made a global stubstitute to change all existing occurences to make them const. This should reduce the possibility of false sharing on SMP, and speedup some socket system calls. Signed-off-by: Eric Dumazet <dada1@cosmosbay.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-09-13[NETROM]: Introduct stuct nr_privateRalf Baechle1-2/+1

2005-09-13[NETROM]: Implement G8PZT Circuit reset for NET/ROMRalf Baechle1-10/+11
NET/ROM is lacking a connection reset like TCP's RST flag which at times may result in a connecting having to slowly timing out instead of just being reset. An earlier attempt to reset the connection by sending a NR_CONNACK | NR_CHOKE_FLAG transport was inacceptable as it did result in crashes of BPQ systems. An alternative approach of introducing a new transport type 7 (NR_RESET) has be implemented several years ago in Paula Jayne Dowie G8PZT's Xrouter. Implement NR_RESET for Linux's NET/ROM but like any messing with the state engine consider this experimental for now and thus control it by a sysctl (net.netrom.reset) which for the time being defaults to off. 2005-09-07[AX25]: Make ax2asc thread-proofRalf Baechle1-3/+4
Ax2asc was still using a static buffer for all invocations which isn't exactly SMP-safe. Change ax2asc to take an additional result buffer as the argument. Change all callers to provide such a buffer. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle DL5RB <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-08-30[AX25/NETROM]: Cleanup direct calls into IP stackRalf Baechle1-3/+2
Get rid of the calls to ip_rcv and arp_rcv which were layering violations anyway. With those being replaced by netif_rx, less parts of AX.25 and relatives depend on INET support actually being enabled. This also will make PF_PACKET sockets work for IP and ARP packets received over AX.25 and for IP packets over NET/ROM. Signed-off-by: Ralf Baechle DL5RB <ralf@linux-mips.org> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2005-08-30[TCP]: Move the tcp sock states to net/tcp_states.hArnaldo Carvalho de Melo1-1/+1
Lots of places just needs the states, not even linux/tcp.h, where this enum was, needs it. This speeds up development of the refactorings as less sources are rebuilt when things get moved from net/tcp.h. 2005-08-23[AX25]: UID fixesRalf Baechle1-8/+16
o Brown paperbag bug - ax25_findbyuid() was always returning a NULL pointer as the result. Breaks ROSE completly and AX.25 if UID policy set to deny. o While the list structure of AX.25's UID to callsign mapping table was properly protected by a spinlock, it's elements were not refcounted resulting in a race between removal and usage of an element. 2005-08-23[NET]: Fix socket bitop damageRalf Baechle1-6/+1
The socket flag cleanups that went into 2.6.12-rc1 are basically oring the flags of an old socket into the socket just being created. Unfortunately that one was just initialized by sock_init_data(), so already has SOCK_ZAPPED set. As the result zapped sockets are created and all incoming connection will fail due to this bug which again was carefully replicated to at least AX.25, NET/ROM or ROSE. In order to keep the abstraction alive I've introduced sock_copy_flags() to copy the socket flags from one sockets to another and used that instead of the bitwise copy thing. Anyway, the idea here has probably been to copy all flags, so sock_copy_flags() should be the right thing. With this the ham radio protocols are usable again, so I hope this will make it into 2.6.13. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
