2021-01-27net: allow user to set metric on default route learned via Router AdvertisementPraveen Chaudhary1-0/+1
For IPv4, default route is learned via DHCPv4 and user is allowed to change metric using config etc/network/interfaces. But for IPv6, default route can be learned via RA, for which, currently a fixed metric value 1024 is used. Ideally, user should be able to configure metric on default route for IPv6 similar to IPv4. This patch adds sysctl for the same. Logs: For IPv4: Config in etc/network/interfaces: auto eth0 iface eth0 inet dhcp metric 4261413864 IPv4 Kernel Route Table: $ ip route list default via 172.21.47.1 dev eth0 metric 4261413864 FRR Table, if a static route is configured: [In real scenario, it is useful to prefer BGP learned default route over DHCPv4 default route.] Codes: K - kernel route, C - connected, S - static, R - RIP, O - OSPF, I - IS-IS, B - BGP, P - PIM, E - EIGRP, N - NHRP, T - Table, v - VNC, V - VNC-Direct, A - Babel, D - SHARP, > - selected route, * - FIB route S>* 0.0.0.0/0 [20/0] is directly connected, eth0, 00:00:03 K 0.0.0.0/0 [254/1000] via 172.21.47.1, eth0, 6d08h51m i.e. User can prefer Default Router learned via Routing Protocol in IPv4. 2020-12-15uapi: move constants from <linux/kernel.h> to <linux/const.h>Petr Vorel1-1/+1
and include <linux/const.h> in UAPI headers instead of <linux/kernel.h>. The reason is to avoid indirect <linux/sysinfo.h> include when using some network headers: <linux/netlink.h> or others -> <linux/kernel.h> -> <linux/sysinfo.h>. This indirect include causes on MUSL redefinition of struct sysinfo when included both <sys/sysinfo.h> and some of UAPI headers: In file included from x86_64-buildroot-linux-musl/sysroot/usr/include/linux/kernel.h:5, from x86_64-buildroot-linux-musl/sysroot/usr/include/linux/netlink.h:5, from ../include/tst_netlink.h:14, from tst_crypto.c:13: x86_64-buildroot-linux-musl/sysroot/usr/include/linux/sysinfo.h:8:8: error: redefinition of `struct sysinfo' struct sysinfo { ^~~~~~~ In file included from ../include/tst_safe_macros.h:15, from ../include/tst_test.h:93, from tst_crypto.c:11: x86_64-buildroot-linux-musl/sysroot/usr/include/sys/sysinfo.h:10:8: note: originally defined here Link: https://lkml.kernel.org/r/20201015190013.8901-1-petr.vorel@gmail.com Signed-off-by: Petr Vorel <petr.vorel@gmail.com> Suggested-by: Rich Felker <dalias@aerifal.cx> Acked-by: Rich Felker <dalias@libc.org> Cc: Peter Korsgaard <peter@korsgaard.com> Cc: Baruch Siach <baruch@tkos.co.il> Cc: Florian Weimer <fweimer@redhat.com> Signed-off-by: Andrew Morton <akpm@linux-foundation.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@linux-foundation.org>

2018-08-13ipv6: Add icmp_echo_ignore_all support for ICMPv6Virgile Jarry1-1/+2
Preventing the kernel from responding to ICMP Echo Requests messages can be useful in several ways. The sysctl parameter 'icmp_echo_ignore_all' can be used to prevent the kernel from responding to IPv4 ICMP echo requests. For IPv6 pings, such a sysctl kernel parameter did not exist. Add the ability to prevent the kernel from responding to IPv6 ICMP echo requests through the use of the following sysctl parameter : /proc/sys/net/ipv6/icmp/echo_ignore_all. Update the documentation to reflect this change. Signed-off-by: Virgile Jarry <virgile@acceis.fr> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>

2017-11-02License cleanup: add SPDX license identifier to uapi header files with no ↵Greg Kroah-Hartman1-0/+1
license Many user space API headers are missing licensing information, which makes it hard for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default are files without license information under the default license of the kernel, which is GPLV2. Marking them GPLV2 would exclude them from being included in non GPLV2 code, which is obviously not intended. The user space API headers fall under the syscall exception which is in the kernels COPYING file: NOTE! This copyright does *not* cover user programs that use kernel services by normal system calls - this is merely considered normal use of the kernel, and does *not* fall under the heading of "derived work". otherwise syscall usage would not be possible. Update the files which contain no license information with an SPDX license identifier. The chosen identifier is 'GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note' which is the officially assigned identifier for the Linux syscall exception. SPDX license identifiers are a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. See the previous patch in this series for the methodology of how this patch was researched. 2017-04-21Replace 2 jiffies with sysctl netdev_budget_usecs to enable softirq tuningMatthew Whitehead1-0/+1
Constants used for tuning are generally a bad idea, especially as hardware changes over time. Replace the constant 2 jiffies with sysctl variable netdev_budget_usecs to enable sysadmins to tune the softirq processing. Also document the variable. For example, a very fast machine might tune this to 1000 microseconds, while my regression testing 486DX-25 needs it to be 4000 microseconds on a nearly idle network to prevent time_squeeze from being incremented. Version 2: changed jiffies to microseconds for predictable units. Signed-off-by: Matthew Whitehead <tedheadster@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: David S. Miller <davem@davemloft.net>
2017-03-23net: ipv6: Add sysctl for minimum prefix len acceptable in RIOs.Joel Scherpelz1-0/+1
This commit adds a new sysctl accept_ra_rt_info_min_plen that defines the minimum acceptable prefix length of Route Information Options. The new sysctl is intended to be used together with accept_ra_rt_info_max_plen to configure a range of acceptable prefix lengths. It is useful to prevent misconfigurations from unintentionally blackholing too much of the IPv6 address space (e.g., home routers announcing RIOs for fc00::/7, which is incorrect). 2014-12-11kernel: add panic_on_warnPrarit Bhargava1-0/+1
There have been several times where I have had to rebuild a kernel to cause a panic when hitting a WARN() in the code in order to get a crash dump from a system. Sometimes this is easy to do, other times (such as in the case of a remote admin) it is not trivial to send new images to the user. A much easier method would be a switch to change the WARN() over to a panic. This makes debugging easier in that I can now test the actual image the WARN() was seen on and I do not have to engage in remote debugging. This patch adds a panic_on_warn kernel parameter and /proc/sys/kernel/panic_on_warn calls panic() in the warn_slowpath_common() path. The function will still print out the location of the warning. An example of the panic_on_warn output: The first line below is from the WARN_ON() to output the WARN_ON()'s location. After that the panic() output is displayed. WARNING: CPU: 30 PID: 11698 at /home/prarit/dummy_module/dummy-module.c:25 init_dummy+0x1f/0x30 [dummy_module]() Kernel panic - not syncing: panic_on_warn set ... 2014-07-01ipv6: Allow accepting RA from local IP addresses.Ben Greear1-0/+1
This can be used in virtual networking applications, and may have other uses as well. The option is disabled by default. A specific use case is setting up virtual routers, bridges, and hosts on a single OS without the use of network namespaces or virtual machines. With proper use of ip rules, routing tables, veth interface pairs and/or other virtual interfaces, and applications that can bind to interfaces and/or IP addresses, it is possibly to create one or more virtual routers with multiple hosts attached. The host interfaces can act as IPv6 systems, with radvd running on the ports in the virtual routers. With the option provided in this patch enabled, those hosts can now properly obtain IPv6 addresses from the radvd. Signed-off-by: Ben Greear <greearb@candelatech.com> Signed-off-by: David S.
