drm_color_ctm_3x4 is some undocumented amgdpu private
uapi and thus has no business being in drm_mode.h.
At least move it to some amdgpu specific header, albeit
with the wrong namespace as maybe something somewhere
is using this already?

Add a new immutable plane property by which a plane can advertise
a handful of recommended plane sizes. This would be mostly exposed
by cursor planes as a slightly more capable replacement for
the DRM_CAP_CURSOR_WIDTH/HEIGHT caps, which can only declare
a one size fits all limit for the whole device.
Currently eg. amdgpu/i915/nouveau just advertize the max cursor
size via the cursor size caps. But always using the max sized
cursor can waste a surprising amount of power, so a better
strategy is desirable.
Most other drivers don't specify any cursor size at all, in
which case the ioctl code just claims that 64x64 is a great
choice. Whether that is actually true is debatable.
A poll of various compositor developers informs us that
blindly probing with setcursor/atomic ioctl to determine
suitable cursor sizes is not acceptable, thus the
introduction of the new property to supplant the cursor
size caps. The compositor will now be free to select a
more optimal cursor size from the short list of options.
Note that the reported sizes (either via the property or the
caps) make no claims about things such as plane scaling. So
these things should only really be consulted for simple
"cursor like" use cases.

This reverts commit 85863a4e16e77079ee14865905ddc3ef9483a640.
Although the Solid Fill planes patchset got all reviews and

has neither corresponding open-source userspace implementation nor the
IGT tests coverage. Reverting this patchset until userspace obligations

If the driver supports it, allow user-space to supply the
DRM_MODE_PAGE_FLIP_ASYNC flag to request an async page-flip.
Set drm_crtc_state.async_flip accordingly.
Document that drivers will reject atomic commits if an async
flip isn't possible. This allows user-space to fall back to
something else. For instance, Xorg falls back to a blit.
Another option is to wait as close to the next vblank as
possible before performing the page-flip to reduce latency.

This can be used to create a separate DRM file description, thus
creating a new GEM handle namespace.
My use-case is wlroots. The library splits responsibilities between
separate components: the GBM allocator creates buffers, the GLES2
renderer uses EGL to import them and render to them, the DRM
backend imports the buffers and displays them. wlroots has a
modular architecture, and any of these components can be swapped
and replaced with something else. For instance, the pipeline can
be set up so that the DRM dumb buffer allocator is used instead of
GBM and the Pixman renderer is used instead of GLES2. Library users
can also replace any of these components with their own custom one.
DMA-BUFs are used to pass buffer references across components. We
could use GEM handles instead, but this would result in pain if
multiple GPUs are in use: wlroots copies buffers across GPUs as
needed. Importing a GEM handle created on one GPU into a completely
different GPU will blow up (fail at best, mix unrelated buffers
otherwise).
Everything is fine if all components use Mesa. However, this isn't
always desirable. For instance when running with DRM dumb buffers
and the Pixman software renderer it's unfortunate to depend on GBM
in the DRM backend just to turn DMA-BUFs into FB IDs. GBM loads
Mesa drivers to perform an action which has nothing driver-specific.
Additionally, drivers will fail the import if the 3D engine can't
use the imported buffer, for instance amdgpu will refuse to import
DRM dumb buffers [1]. We might also want to be running with a Vulkan
renderer and a Vulkan allocator in the future, and GBM wouldn't be
welcome in this setup.
To address this, GBM can be side-stepped in the DRM backend, and
can be replaced with drmPrimeFDToHandle calls. However because of
GEM handle reference counting issues, care must be taken to avoid
double-closing the same GEM handle. In particular, it's not
possible to share a DRM FD with GBM or EGL and perform some
drmPrimeFDToHandle calls manually.
So wlroots needs to re-open the DRM FD to create a new GEM handle
namespace. However there's no guarantee that the file-system
permissions will be set up so that the primary FD can be opened
by the compsoitor. On modern systems seatd or logind is a privileged
process responsible for doing this, and other processes aren't
expected to do it. For historical reasons systemd still allows
physically logged in users to open primary DRM nodes, but this
doesn't work on non-systemd setups and it's desirable to lock
them down at some point.
Some might suggest to open the render node instead of re-opening
the primary node. However some systems don't have a render node
at all (e.g. no GPU, or a split render/display SoC).
Solutions to this issue have been discussed in [2]. One solution
would be to open the magic /proc/self/fd/<fd> file, but it's a
Linux-specific hack (wlroots supports BSDs too). Another solution
is to add support for re-opening a DRM primary node to seatd/logind,
but they don't support it now and really haven't been designed for
this (logind would need to grow a completely new API, because it
assumes unique dev_t IDs). Also this seems like pushing down a
kernel limitation to user-space a bit too hard.
Another solution is to allow creating empty DRM leases. The lessee
FD would have its own GEM handle namespace, so wouldn't conflict
wth GBM/EGL. It would have the master bit set, but would be able
to manage zero resources. wlroots doesn't intend to share this FD
with any other process.
All in all IMHO that seems like a pretty reasonable solution to the
issue at hand.
Note, I've discussed with Jonas Ådahl and Mutter plans to adopt a
similar design in the future.
Example usage in wlroots is available at [3]. IGT test available
at [4].

I presume the original plan was to expose the display name

the define for the length of the string but no string anywhere.

FB_DAMAGE_CLIPS is an optional plane property to mark damaged regions
on the plane in framebuffer coordinates of the framebuffer attached to
the plane.
The layout of blob data is simply an array of "struct drm_mode_rect".
Unlike plane src coordinates, damage clips are not in 16.16 fixed point.
As plane src in framebuffer cannot be negative so are damage clips. In
damage clip, x1/y1 are inclusive and x2/y2 are exclusive.
This patch also exports the kernel internal drm_rect to userspace as
drm_mode_rect. This is because "struct drm_clip_rect" is not sufficient
to represent damage for current plane size.
Driver which are interested in enabling FB_DAMAGE_CLIPS property for a
plane should enable this property using drm_plane_enable_damage_clips.

Writeback connectors represent writeback engines which can write the
CRTC output to a memory framebuffer. Add a writeback connector type and
related support functions.
Drivers should initialize a writeback connector with
drm_writeback_connector_init() which takes care of setting up all the
writeback-specific details on top of the normal functionality of
drm_connector_init().
Writeback connectors have a WRITEBACK_FB_ID property, used to set the
output framebuffer, and a WRITEBACK_PIXEL_FORMATS blob used to expose the
supported writeback formats to userspace.
When a framebuffer is attached to a writeback connector with the
WRITEBACK_FB_ID property, it is used only once (for the commit in which
it was included), and userspace can never read back the value of
WRITEBACK_FB_ID. WRITEBACK_FB_ID can only be set if the connector is
attached to a CRTC.
Changes since v1:
- Added drm_writeback.c + documentation
- Added helper to initialize writeback connector in one go
- Added core checks
- Squashed into a single commit
- Dropped the client cap
- Writeback framebuffers are no longer persistent
Changes since v2:
Daniel Vetter:
- Subclass drm_connector to drm_writeback_connector
- Relax check to allow CRTC to be set without an FB
- Add some writeback_ prefixes
- Drop PIXEL_FORMATS_SIZE property, as it was unnecessary
Gustavo Padovan:
- Add drm_writeback_job to handle writeback signalling centrally
Changes since v3:
- Rebased
- Rename PIXEL_FORMATS -> WRITEBACK_PIXEL_FORMATS
Chances since v4:
- Embed a drm_encoder inside the drm_writeback_connector to
reduce the amount of boilerplate code required from the drivers
that are using it.
Changes since v5:
- Added Rob Clark's atomic_commit() vfunc to connector helper
funcs, so that writeback jobs are committed from atomic helpers
- Updated create_writeback_properties() signature to return an
error code rather than a boolean false for failure.
- Free writeback job with the connector state rather than when
doing the cleanup_work()
Changes since v7:
- fix extraneous use of out_fence that is only introduced in a
subsequent patch.
Changes since v8:
- whitespace changes pull from subsequent patch
Changes since v9:
- Revert the v6 changes that free the writeback job in the connector
state cleanup and return to doing it in the cleanup_work() function

Added content_type property to drm_connector_state
in order to properly handle external HDMI TV content-type setting.
v2:
* Moved helper function which attaches content type property
to the drm core, as was suggested.
Removed redundant connector state initialization.
v3:
* Removed caps in drm_content_type_enum_list.
After some discussion it turned out that HDMI Spec 1.4
was wrongly assuming that IT Content(itc) bit doesn't affect
Content type states, however itc bit needs to be manupulated
as well. In order to not expose additional property for itc,
for sake of simplicity it was decided to bind those together
in same "content type" property.
v4:
* Added it_content checking in intel_digital_connector_atomic_check.
Fixed documentation for new content type enum.
v5:
* Moved patch revision's description to commit messages.
v6:
* Minor naming fix for the content type enumeration string.
v7:
* Fix parameter name for documentation and parameter alignment
in order not to get warning. Added Content Type description to
new HDMI connector properties section.
v8:
* Thrown away unneeded numbers from HDMI content-type property
description. Switch to strings desription instead of plain
definitions.
v9:
* Moved away hdmi specific content-type enum from
drm_connector_state. Content type property should probably not
be bound to any specific connector interface in
drm_connector_state.
Same probably should be done to hdmi_picture_aspect_ration enum
which is also contained in drm_connector_state. Added special
helper function to get derive hdmi specific relevant infoframe
fields.
v10:
* Added usage description to HDMI properties kernel doc.
v11:
* Created centralized function for filling HDMI AVI infoframe, based
on correspondent DRM property value.

HDMI 2.0/CEA-861-F introduces two new aspect ratios:
- 64:27
- 256:135
This patch:
- Adds new DRM flags for to represent these new aspect ratios.
- Adds new cases to handle these aspect ratios while converting
from user->kernel mode or vise versa.
This patch was once reviewed and merged, and later reverted due
to lack of DRM client protection, while adding aspect ratio bits
in user modes. This is a re-spin of the series, with DRM client
cap protection.

DRM_MODE_PROP_PENDING is not used anywhere (except printed out
by libdrm proptest/modetest).
This seems to be yet another thing blindly copied from xrandr.
Quoting from the protocol spec:
"If 'pending' is TRUE, changes made to property values with
RRChangeOutputProperty will be saved in the pending property value
and be automatically copied to the current value on the next
RRSetCrtcConfig request involving the named output. If 'pending' is
FALSE, changes are copied immediately."
So it was some kind of early idea for atomic property updates.

I think this maybe originated from fbdev where it was supposed to
indicate PAL/NTSC broadcast timings. I have no idea why those would
have to be identified by a flag rather than by just the timings
themselves. And then I assume it got copied into xfree86 for
fbdevhw, and later on it leaked into the randr protocol and kms uapi.
Since kms fbdev emulation never uses the corresponding fbdev flag
there should be no sane way for this to come back into kms via

This patch adds a new optional connector property to allow userspace to enable
protection over the content it is displaying. This will typically be implemented
by the driver using HDCP.
The property is a tri-state with the following values:
- OFF: Self explanatory, no content protection
- DESIRED: Userspace requests that the driver enable protection
- ENABLED: Once the driver has authenticated the link, it sets this value
The driver is responsible for downgrading ENABLED to DESIRED if the link becomes
unprotected. The driver should also maintain the desiredness of protection
across hotplug/dpms/suspend.
If this looks familiar, I posted [1] this 3 years ago. We have been using this
in ChromeOS across exynos, mediatek, and rockchip over that time.

drm_mode_create_lease
Creates a lease for a list of drm mode objects, returning an
fd for the new drm_master and a 64-bit identifier for the lessee
drm_mode_list_lesees
List the identifiers of the lessees for a master file
drm_mode_get_lease
List the leased objects for a master file
drm_mode_revoke_lease
Erase the set of objects managed by a lease.
This should suffice to at least create and query leases.
Changes for v2 as suggested by Daniel Vetter <daniel.vetter@ffwll.ch>:
* query ioctls only query the master associated with
the provided file.
* 'mask_lease' value has been removed
* change ioctl has been removed.
Changes for v3 suggested in part by Dave Airlie <airlied@gmail.com>
* Add revoke ioctl.
Changes for v4 suggested by Dave Airlie <airlied@gmail.com>
* Expand on the comment about the magic use of &drm_lease_idr_object
* Pad lease ioctl structures to align on 64-bit boundaries
Changes for v5 suggested by Dave Airlie <airlied@gmail.com>
* Check for non-negative object_id in create_lease to avoid debug
output from the kernel.
Changes for v6 provided by Dave Airlie <airlied@gmail.com>
* For non-universal planes add primary/cursor planes to lease
If we aren't exposing universal planes to this userspace client,
and it requests a lease on a crtc, we should implicitly export the
primary and cursor planes for the crtc.
If the lessee doesn't request universal planes, it will just see
the crtc, but if it does request them it will then see the plane
objects as well.
This also moves the object look ups earlier as a side effect, so
we'd exit the ioctl quicker for non-existant objects.
* Restrict leases to crtc/connector/planes.
This only allows leasing for objects we wish to allow.
Changes for v7 provided by Dave Airlie <airlied@gmail.com>
* Check pad args are 0
* Check create flags and object count are valid.
* Check return from fd allocation
* Refactor lease idr setup and add some simple validation
* Use idr_mutex uniformly (Keith)
