We may use snd_rawmidi_transmit() in a loop just for consuming the input data, but even there, there is a race between snd_rawmidi_transmit_peek() and snd_rawmidi_tranmit_ack(). Similarly in the latter case, it calls snd_rawmidi_transmit_peek() and snd_rawmidi_tranmit_ack() separately without protection, so they are racy as well. The patch tries to address these issues by the following ways: - Introduce the unlocked versions of snd_rawmidi_transmit_peek() and snd_rawmidi_transmit_ack() to be called inside the explicit lock. - Rewrite snd_rawmidi_transmit() to be race-free (the former case). - Make the split calls (the latter case) protected in the rawmidi spin lock. 2016-01-25ASoC: Use nested lock for snd_soc_dapm_mutex_lockCharles Keepax1-1/+1
commit 783513eec3209542fcd6ac0cbcb030b3c17a4827 upstream. snd_soc_dapm_mutex_lock currently uses the un-nested call which can cause lockdep warnings when called from control handlers (a relatively common usage) and using modules. As creating the control causes a potential mutex inversion with the handler, creating the control will take the controls_rwsem under the dapm_mutex and accessing the control will take the dapm_mutex under controls_rwsem. All the users look like they want to be using the runtime class of the lock anyway, so this patch just changes snd_soc_dapm_mutex_lock to use the nested call, with the SND_SOC_DAPM_CLASS_RUNTIME class. 2015-11-16ASoC: Add info callback for SX_TLV controlsCharles Keepax1-2/+4

SX_TLV controls are intended for situations where the register behind the control has some non-zero value indicating the minimum gain and then gains increasing from there and eventually overflowing through zero. Currently every CODEC implementing these controls specifies the minimum as the non-zero value for the minimum and the maximum as the number of gain settings available. This means when the info callback subtracts the minimum value from the maximum value to calculate the number of gain levels available it is actually under reporting the available levels. This patch fixes this issue by adding a new snd_soc_info_volsw_sx callback that does not subtract the minimum value. Second mode is useful for 64 bit os with more then 2 GB of ram (fixes problems with big soundfont loading) 1) 32MB from 2 GB address space using 8192 pages (used now as default) 2) 16MB from 4 GB address space using 4096 pages Mode is set using HCFG_EXPANDED_MEM flag in HCFG register. Also format of emu10k2 page table is then different. 2015-02-10ALSA: ak411x: Fix stall in work callbackTakashi Iwai2-2/+2
commit 4161b4505f1690358ac0a9ee59845a7887336b21 upstream. When ak4114 work calls its callback and the callback invokes ak4114_reinit(), it stalls due to flush_delayed_work(). For avoiding this, control the reentrance by introducing a refcount. Also flush_delayed_work() is replaced with cancel_delayed_work_sync(). The exactly same bug is present in ak4113.c and fixed as well. 2014-12-01ASoC: dpcm: Fix race between FE/BE updates and triggerTakashi Iwai1-0/+2
commit ea9d0d771fcd32cd56070819749477d511ec9117 upstream. DPCM can update the FE/BE connection states totally asynchronously from the FE's PCM state. Most of FE/BE state changes are protected by mutex, so that they won't race, but there are still some actions that are uncovered. For example, suppose to switch a BE while a FE's stream is running. This would call soc_dpcm_runtime_update(), which sets FE's runtime_update flag, then sets up and starts BEs, and clears FE's runtime_update flag again. When a device emits XRUN during this operation, the PCM core triggers snd_pcm_stop(XRUN). Since the trigger action is an atomic ops, this isn't blocked by the mutex, thus it kicks off DPCM's trigger action. It eventually updates and clears FE's runtime_update flag while soc_dpcm_runtime_update() is running concurrently, and it results in confusion. Usually, for avoiding such a race, we take a lock. There is a PCM stream lock for that purpose. However, as already mentioned, the trigger action is atomic, and we can't take the lock for the whole soc_dpcm_runtime_update() or other operations that include the lengthy jobs like hw_params or prepare. This patch provides an alternative solution. This adds a way to defer the conflicting trigger callback to be executed at the end of FE/BE state changes. For doing it, two things are introduced: - Each runtime_update state change of FEs is protected via PCM stream lock. - The FE's trigger callback checks the runtime_update flag. If it's not set, the trigger action is executed there. If set, mark the pending trigger action and returns immediately. - At the exit of runtime_update state change, it checks whether the pending trigger is present. If yes, it executes the trigger action at this point. 2014-06-18ALSA: control: Protect user controls against concurrent accessLars-Peter Clausen1-0/+2
The user-control put and get handlers as well as the tlv do not protect against concurrent access from multiple threads. Since the state of the control is not updated atomically it is possible that either two write operations or a write and a read operation race against each other. Both can lead to arbitrary memory disclosure. This patch introduces a new lock that protects user-controls from concurrent access. Since applications typically access controls sequentially than in parallel a single lock per card should be fine. Clarify struct snd_soc_jack_gpio documentation for the idx and name fields. Because name is passed as connection ID to gpiod_get_index() when using GPIO descriptor defined jack pins it is not only used as a label in debugfs but also as function name lookup in systems that support functions names for GPIOs. Clarify also idx since the index is within the function of the GPIO consumer device and not within the device itself only. 2014-05-26ASoC: jack: Add support for GPIO descriptor defined jack pinsJarkko Nikula1-1/+15
Allow jack GPIO pins be defined also using GPIO descriptor-based interface in addition to legacy GPIO numbers. This is done by adding two new fields to struct snd_soc_jack_gpio: idx and gpiod_dev. Legacy GPIO numbers are used only when GPIO consumer device gpiod_dev is NULL and otherwise idx is the descriptor index within the GPIO consumer device. New function snd_soc_jack_add_gpiods() is added for typical cases where all GPIO descriptor jack pins belong to same GPIO consumer device. For other cases the caller must set the gpiod_dev in struct snd_soc_jack_gpio before calling snd_soc_jack_add_gpios(). Adds struct device_node **bitclkmaster and struct device_node **framemaster function parameters. With the new syntax bitclock-master and frame-master properties can explicitly indicate the dai-link bit-clock and frame masters with a phandle. This patch also makes the minimal changes to simple-card for it to work with the updated snd_soc_of_parse_daifmt(). Simple-card appears to be the only user of snd_soc_of_parse_daifmt() for now. 2014-04-22ASoC: Move IO abstraction to the component levelLars-Peter Clausen2-7/+25
We currently have two very similar IO abstractions in ASoC, one for CODECs, the other for platforms. Moving this to the component level will allow us to unify those two. It will also enable us to move the standard kcontrol helpers as well as DAPM support to the component level. The new component level abstraction layer is primarily build around regmap. There is a per component pointer for the regmap instance for the underlying device. There are four new function snd_soc_component_read(), snd_soc_component_write(), snd_soc_component_update_bits() and snd_soc_component_update_bits_async(). They have the same signature as their regmap counter-part and will internally forward the call one-to-one to regmap. If the component it not using regmap it will fallback to using the custom IO callbacks. This is done to be able to support drivers that haven't been converted to regmap yet, but it is expected that this will eventually be removed in the future once all component drivers have been converted to regmap.
