The can_skb_priv::skbcnt variable is used to identify CAN skbs in the RX
path analogue to the skb->hash.
As the skb hash is not filled in CAN skbs move the private skbcnt value to
skb->hash and set skb->sw_hash accordingly. The skb->hash is a value used
for RPS to identify skbs. Use it as intended.

packet_snd() reads dev->hard_header_len multiple times while allocating
and constructing an skb. Device reconfiguration can change this value
concurrently, for example through bonding device type changes.
For SOCK_RAW, packet_snd() can save a larger value in reserve and later
allocate headroom using a smaller value. Moving skb->data back by reserve
then places it before skb->head, and the following copy from userspace can
attempt an out-of-bounds write.
packet_sendmsg_spkt() has the same issue because it calculates its
reservation and header offset from separate reads before dropping the RCU
read lock to allocate the skb.
Add LL_RESERVED_SPACE_EX() for callers that already saved a header length.
Read hard_header_len once in packet_snd() and use it for allocation and
construction. In packet_sendmsg_spkt(), preserve the allocation-time value
through the device lookup retry.
The separate SOCK_DGRAM consistency problem between hard_header_len and
header_ops->create is not addressed here.

Commit 2a010c412853 ("fs: don't block i_writecount during exec") removed
the legacy behavior of getting ETXTBSY on attempt to open and executable
file for write while it is being executed.
This commit was reverted because an application that depends on this
legacy behavior was broken by the change.
We need to allow HSM writing into executable files while executed to
fill their content on-the-fly.
To that end, disable the ETXTBSY legacy behavior for files that are
watched by pre-content events.
This change is not expected to cause regressions with existing systems
which do not have any pre-content event listeners.

Legacy inotify/fanotify listeners can add watches for events on inode,
parent or mount and expect to get events (e.g. FS_MODIFY) on files that
were already open at the time of setting up the watches.
fanotify permission events are typically used by Anti-malware sofware,
that is watching the entire mount and it is not common to have more that
one Anti-malware engine installed on a system.
To reduce the overhead of the fsnotify_file_perm() hooks on every file
access, relax the semantics of the legacy FAN_ACCESS_PERM event to generate
events only if there were *any* permission event listeners on the
filesystem at the time that the file was opened.
The new semantic is implemented by extending the FMODE_NONOTIFY bit into
two FMODE_NONOTIFY_* bits, that are used to store a mode for which of the
events types to report.
This is going to apply to the new fanotify pre-content events in order
to reduce the cost of the new pre-content event vfs hooks.

Like skb_pull but returns the original data pointer before pulling the
data after performing a check against sbk->len.
This allows to change code that does "struct foo *p = (void *)skb->data;"
which is hard to audit and error prone, to:
p = skb_pull_data(skb, sizeof(*p));
if (!p)
return;
Which is both safer and cleaner.

Introduce vcpu->wants_to_run to indicate when a vCPU is in its core run
loop, i.e. when the vCPU is running the KVM_RUN ioctl and immediate_exit
was not set.
Replace all references to vcpu->run->immediate_exit with
!vcpu->wants_to_run to avoid TOCTOU races with userspace. For example, a
malicious userspace could invoked KVM_RUN with immediate_exit=true and
then after KVM reads it to set wants_to_run=false, flip it to false.
This would result in the vCPU running in KVM_RUN with
wants_to_run=false. This wouldn't cause any real bugs today but is a
dangerous landmine.

Move xbc_snprint_cmdline() from init/main.c to lib/bootconfig.c so the
function (and its xbc_namebuf scratch buffer) becomes part of the shared
parser library. tools/bootconfig already compiles lib/bootconfig.c
directly, which lets a follow-up patch reuse the same renderer in the
userspace tool to convert a bootconfig file into a flat cmdline string
at build time.
No functional change.

tb_xdp_handle_request() runs on system_wq and queues
xd->state_work via queue_delayed_work() in three request handlers:
PROPERTIES_CHANGED_REQUEST, UUID_REQUEST (via start_handshake),
and LINK_STATE_CHANGE_REQUEST. Similarly, update_xdomain() queues
xd->properties_changed_work when local properties change.
Concurrently, tb_xdomain_remove() calls stop_handshake() which does
cancel_delayed_work_sync() on both delayed works. Later,
tb_xdomain_unregister() calls device_unregister() which eventually
frees the xdomain. Since commit 559c1e1e0134 ("thunderbolt: Run
tb_xdp_handle_request() in system workqueue") moved the request
handler off tb->wq, the handler and the remove path are no longer
serialized. If queue_delayed_work() executes after
cancel_delayed_work_sync() but before the xdomain is freed, the
delayed work fires on a freed object.
Add xd->removing that tb_xdomain_remove() sets under xd->lock
before calling stop_handshake(). Each external queue site holds
the same lock and checks removing before calling
queue_delayed_work(). This provides the mutual exclusion needed:
either the queue site acquires the lock first and queues work that
the subsequent cancel will see, or the remove path acquires the
lock first and the queue site observes removing == true and skips
the queue.

Move management of the sock->sk_security blob out
of the individual security modules and into the security
infrastructure. Instead of allocating the blobs from within
the modules the modules tell the infrastructure how much
space is required, and the space is allocated there.

inode->i_ino is being widened from unsigned long to u64. The audit
subsystem uses unsigned long ino in struct fields, function parameters,
and local variables that store inode numbers from arbitrary filesystems.
On 32-bit platforms this truncates inode numbers that exceed 32 bits,
which will cause incorrect audit log entries and broken watch/mark
comparisons.
Widen all audit ino fields, parameters, and locals to u64, and update
the inode format string from %lu to %llu to match.

audit_alloc_mark() and audit_get_nd() both need to perform a path
lookup getting the parent dentry (which must exist) and the final
target (following a LAST_NORM name) which sometimes doesn't need to
exist.
They don't need the parent to be locked, but use kern_path_locked() or
kern_path_locked_negative() anyway. This is somewhat misleading to the
casual reader.
This patch introduces a more targeted function, kern_path_parent(),
which returns not holding locks. On success the "path" will
be set to the parent, which must be found, and the return value is the
dentry of the target, which might be negative.
This will clear the way to rename kern_path_locked() which is
otherwise only used to prepare for removing something.
It also allows us to remove kern_path_locked_negative(), which is
transformed into the new kern_path_parent().

Add fwnode_irq_get_byname() to get an interrupt by name from either
ACPI table or Device Tree, whichever is used for enumeration.
In the ACPI case, this allow us to use 'interrupt-names' in
_DSD which can be mapped to Interrupt() resource by index.
The implementation is similar to 'interrupt-names' in the
Device Tree.

When CONFIG_BPF_LSM=y is set, BPF inode storage maps
(BPF_MAP_TYPE_INODE_STORAGE) are compiled into the kernel. However,
if the BPF LSM is not explicitly enabled at boot time (e.g. omitted
from the "lsm=" boot parameter), lsm_prepare() is never executed for
the BPF LSM.
Consequently, the BPF inode security blob offset
(bpf_lsm_blob_sizes.lbs_inode) is never initialized and remains at
its default compiled size of 8 bytes instead of being updated to a
valid offset past the reserved struct rcu_head (typically 16 bytes
or more).
When a privileged user creates and updates a BPF_MAP_TYPE_INODE_STORAGE
map, bpf_inode() evaluates inode->i_security + 8. This erroneously
aliases the struct rcu_head.func callback pointer at the beginning
of the inode->i_security blob. During subsequent map element cleanup
or inode destruction, writing NULL to owner_storage clears the queued
RCU callback pointer. When rcu_do_batch() later executes the queued
callback, it attempts an instruction fetch at address 0x0, triggering
an immediate kernel panic.
Fix this by introducing a global bpf_lsm_initialized boolean flag
marked with __ro_after_init. Set this flag to true inside bpf_lsm_init()
when the LSM framework successfully registers the BPF LSM. Gate map
allocation in inode_storage_map_alloc() on this flag, returning
-EOPNOTSUPP if the BPF LSM is in turn uninitialized.
This fail-fast approach prevents userspace from allocating inode
storage maps when the supporting BPF LSM infrastructure is absent,
avoiding zombie map states.

dev_validate_header() reads dev->hard_header_len directly when
zero-padding short link layer headers for CAP_SYS_RAWIO holders:

Packet send paths call dev_validate_header() on skbs whose headroom was
allocated from an earlier hard_header_len read. If the device is
reconfigured so that dev->hard_header_len increases before validation,
the memset writes past the reserved buffer, an out-of-bounds write.
This out-of-bounds write is masked in some SOCK_RAW paths today because
the same concurrent increase can first make skb_push() exceed the
reserved headroom and trigger skb_under_panic(). Remove the zero-padding
branch before making those hard_header_len reads consistent, so the
snapshot fixes do not turn a loud panic into a silent overwrite.
This path is only reached for variable length L2 protocols, where
len < hard_header_len but len >= min_header_len. No remaining in-tree
variable length L2 protocol implements header_ops->validate, and the
CAP_SYS_RAWIO bypass that zero-pads and accepts short headers has no
real value beyond allowing testing of intentionally malformed input.
Drop the CAP_SYS_RAWIO branch. The remaining reads of
dev->hard_header_len in dev_validate_header() are comparisons only and
have no memory safety impact.

BAM version 1.6.0 and later changed the behavior of the mask field in
command elements for read operations.
In older BAM versions, or prior implementation assumptions, the mask
field was effectively ignored for read commands. However, starting from
BAM v1.6.0, the mask field for read commands is repurposed to carry the
upper 4 bits of the destination address, enabling support for 36-bit
addressing. For write commands, the mask field continues to function as
a traditional write mask.
The current driver sets mask = 0xffffffff for all command elements.
While this works for write operations, it breaks read operations on
BAM v1.6.0+ hardware. In such cases, the hardware interprets the upper
address bits as 0xf, resulting in an invalid destination address
(0xf_xxxxxxxx instead of 0x0_xxxxxxxx).
This leads to failures such as NAND enumeration issues observed on
platforms like IPQ5424.
Fix this by assigning the mask field based on command type:
- For read commands: set mask = 0 (upper address bits = 0)
- For write commands: retain mask = 0xffffffff
Also update the bam_cmd_element structure documentation to reflect the
dual purpose of the mask field across BAM versions.
This ensures correct behavior on BAM v1.6.0+ while maintaining backward
compatibility with older hardware.

sip_help_tcp() stores the size change of each NAT-rewritten SIP message
in s16 diff and accumulates it in s16 tdiff, but a single message can
grow by more than S16_MAX while the packet stays under the 65535
enlarge_skb() limit: nf_nat_sip() rewrites every matching URI, and a long
Contact list expands the message by tens of kilobytes. diff then wraps,
and "datalen = datalen + diff - msglen" yields a huge unsigned datalen,
so the next iteration's ct_sip_get_header() reads past the linearized skb
tail.
Widen diff, tdiff and the seq_adjust hook to s32. Both are bounded by the
65535 byte packet limit, and the seqadj core is already s32
(nf_ct_seqadj_set() takes s32), so no previously accepted input is
rejected.

Netfilter code (net/netfilter/nft_log.c and net/netfilter/xt_AUDIT.c)
have to be kept in sync. Both source files had duplicated versions of
audit_ip4() and audit_ip6() functions, which can result in lack of
consistency and/or duplicated work.
This patch adds a helper function in audit.c that can be called by
netfilter code commonly, aiming to improve maintainability and
consistency.

BAR resize operation is implemented in the pci_resize_resource() and
pbus_reassign_bridge_resources() functions. pci_resize_resource() can be
called either from __resource_resize_store() from sysfs or directly by the
driver for the Endpoint Device.
The pci_resize_resource() requires that caller has released the device
resources that share the bridge window with the BAR to be resized as
otherwise the bridge window is pinned in place and cannot be changed.
pbus_reassign_bridge_resources() rolls back resources if the resize
operation fails, but rollback is performed only for the bridge windows.
Because releasing the device resources are done by the caller of the BAR
resize interface, these functions performing the BAR resize do not have
access to the device resources as they were before the resize.
pbus_reassign_bridge_resources() could try __pci_bridge_assign_resources()
after rolling back the bridge windows as they were, however, it will not
guarantee the resource are assigned due to differences in how FW and the
kernel assign the resources (alignment of the start address and tail).
To perform rollback robustly, the BAR resize interface has to be altered to
also release the device resources that share the bridge window with the BAR
to be resized.
Also, remove restoring from the entries failed list as saved list should
now contain both the bridge windows and device resources so the extra
restore is duplicated work.
Some drivers (currently only amdgpu) want to prevent releasing some
resources. Add exclude_bars param to pci_resize_resource() and make amdgpu
pass its register BAR (BAR 2 or 5), which should never be released during
resize operation. Normally 64-bit prefetchable resources do not share a
bridge window with the 32-bit only register BAR, but there are various
fallbacks in the resource assignment logic which may make the resources
share the bridge window in rare cases.
This change (together with the driver side changes) is to counter the
resource releases that had to be done to prevent resource tree corruption
in the ("PCI: Release assigned resource before restoring them") change. As
such, it likely restores functionality in cases where device resources were
released to avoid resource tree conflicts which appeared to be "working"
when such conflicts were not correctly detected by the kernel.

Avoid open-coding that simple expression each time by moving
BYTES_TO_BITS() from the probes code to <linux/bitops.h> to export
it to the rest of the kernel.
Simplify the macro while at it. `BITS_PER_LONG / sizeof(long)` always
equals to %BITS_PER_BYTE, regardless of the target architecture.
Do the same for the tools ecosystem as well (incl. its version of
bitops.h). The previous implementation had its implicit type of long,
while the new one is int, so adjust the format literal accordingly in
the perf code.

When a sensor is running and there is a FIFO frequency change due to
another sensor turned on/off, there are glitches on timestamp. Fix that
by using only interrupt timestamp when there is the corresponding sensor
data in the FIFO.
Delete FIFO period handling and simplify internal functions.
Update integration inside inv_mpu6050 and inv_icm42600 drivers.

Adding support for processing of MAPv5 downlink packets.
It involves parsing the Mapv5 packet and checking the csum header
to know whether the hardware has validated the checksum and is
valid or not.
Based on the checksum valid bit the corresponding stats are
incremented and skb->ip_summed is marked either CHECKSUM_UNNECESSARY
or left as CHEKSUM_NONE to let network stack revalidate the checksum
and update the respective snmp stats.
Current MAPV1 header has been modified, the reserved field in the
Mapv1 header is now used for next header indication.

Replace the use of C bit-fields in the rmnet_map_ul_csum_header
structure with a single two-byte (big endian) structure member,
and use masks to encode or get values within it. The content of
these fields can be accessed using simple bitwise AND and OR
operations on the (host byte order) value of the new structure
member.
Previously rmnet_map_ipv4_ul_csum_header() would update C bit-field
values in host byte order, then forcibly fix their byte order using
a combination of byte swap operations and types.
Instead, just compute the value that needs to go into the new
structure member and save it with a simple byte-order conversion.
Make similar simplifications in rmnet_map_ipv6_ul_csum_header().
Finally, in rmnet_map_checksum_uplink_packet() a set of assignments
zeroes every field in the upload checksum header. Replace that with
a single memset() operation.

The actual layout of bits defined in C bit-fields (e.g. int foo : 3)
is implementation-defined. Structures defined in <linux/if_rmnet.h>
address this by specifying all bit-fields twice, to cover two
possible layouts.
I think this pattern is repetitive and noisy, and I find the whole
notion of compiler "bitfield endianness" to be non-intuitive.
Stop using C bit-fields for the command/data flag and the pad length
fields in the rmnet_map structure, and define a single-byte flags
field instead. Define a mask for the single-bit "command" flag,
and another mask for the encoded pad length. The content of both
fields can be accessed using a simple bitwise AND operation.

dev_has_sync_state() reads dev->driver twice without holding
device_lock() -- once for the NULL check and once to dereference
->sync_state. Some callers only hold device_links_write_lock, which
doesn't prevent a concurrent unbind from clearing dev->driver via
device_unbind_cleanup().
Fix it by reading dev->driver exactly once with READ_ONCE(), pairing
with the WRITE_ONCE() in device_set_driver().

String event fields are not necessarily NUL-terminated, so the filter
predicate functions (filter_pred_string(), filter_pred_strloc() and
filter_pred_strrelloc()) pass the field length to the regex match
callbacks, and the length-aware matchers honour it.
regex_match_glob() was the exception: it ignored the length and called
glob_match(), which scans the string until it hits a NUL byte. Some
string fields are not NUL-terminated. One example is the dynamic char
array of the xfs_* namespace tracepoints, which is copied without a
trailing NUL. For such a field, glob matching reads past the end of
the event field, causing a KASAN slab-out-of-bounds read in
glob_match(), reached via regex_match_glob() and filter_match_preds()
from the xfs_lookup tracepoint.
Add a length-bounded glob_match_len() and use it from regex_match_glob()
so glob matching always stops at the field boundary. The matching loop
is factored into a shared helper so glob_match() keeps its behaviour.

sensor_hub_input_attr_get_raw_value() is limited to returning a single
32-bit value, which is insufficient for sensors that report data larger
than 32 bits, such as a quaternion with four s16 elements.
Add sensor_hub_input_attr_read_values() that accepts a caller-provided
buffer and accumulates incoming data until the buffer is full. The two
paths are distinguished in sensor_hub_raw_event() by pending.max_raw_size
being non-zero, preserving backward compatibility.

The sk_msg sg.copy bitmap is part of the scatterlist entry ownership
state. A set bit tells sk_msg_compute_data_pointers() not to expose the
entry through writable BPF ctx->data. This protects entries backed by
pages that are not private to the sk_msg, such as splice-backed file
page-cache pages.
Several sk_msg transform paths move, copy, split, or compact
msg->sg.data[] entries without moving the matching sg.copy bit. This can
make an externally backed entry arrive at a new slot with a clear copy
bit. A later SK_MSG verdict can then expose sg_virt(sge) as writable
ctx->data and BPF stores can modify the original page cache.
Keep sg.copy synchronized with sg.data[] whenever entries are
transferred, shifted, split, or copied into a new sk_msg. Clear the bit
when an entry is replaced by a newly allocated private page or freed.
This covers the BPF pull/push/pop helpers, sk_msg_shift_left/right(),
sk_msg_xfer(), and tls_split_open_record(), including the partial tail
entry created during TLS open-record splitting.

We have plans for increasing MAX_SKB_FRAGS, but sk_msg_sg::copy
is currently an unsigned long, limiting MAX_SKB_FRAGS to 30 on 32bit arches.
Convert it to a bitmap, as Jakub suggested.

When the ring buffer was first introduced, reading the non-consuming
"trace" file required disabling the writing of the ring buffer. To make
sure the writing was fully disabled before iterating the buffer with a
non-consuming read, it would set the disable flag of the buffer and then
call an RCU synchronization to make sure all the buffers were
synchronized.
The function ring_buffer_read_start() originally would initialize the
iterator and call an RCU synchronization, but this was for each individual
per CPU buffer where this would get called many times on a machine with
many CPUs before the trace file could be read. The commit 72c9ddfd4c5bf
("ring-buffer: Make non-consuming read less expensive with lots of cpus.")
separated ring_buffer_read_start into ring_buffer_read_prepare(),
ring_buffer_read_sync() and then ring_buffer_read_start() to allow each of
the per CPU buffers to be prepared, call the read_buffer_read_sync() once,
and then the ring_buffer_read_start() for each of the CPUs which made
things much faster.
The commit 1039221cc278 ("ring-buffer: Do not disable recording when there
is an iterator") removed the requirement of disabling the recording of the
ring buffer in order to iterate it, but it did not remove the
synchronization that was happening that was required to wait for all the
buffers to have no more writers. It's now OK for the buffers to have
writers and no synchronization is needed.
Remove the synchronization and put back the interface for the ring buffer
iterator back before commit 72c9ddfd4c5bf was applied.

This variant of skb_header_pointer() should be used in contexts
where @offset argument is user-controlled and could be negative.
Negative offsets are supported, as long as the zone starts
between skb->head and skb->data.

READ/WRITE proved to be actively confusing - the meanings are
"data destination, as used with read(2)" and "data source, as
used with write(2)", but people keep interpreting those as
"we read data from it" and "we write data to it", i.e. exactly
the wrong way.
Call them ITER_DEST and ITER_SOURCE - at least that is harder
to misinterpret...

Disable the warnings in the same way for clang-23 and newer. Disable the
warning about unknown warning options to avoid breaking the build for
versions of clang-23 that do not have -Wattribute-alias, such as ones
deployed by vendors like Android or CI systems or when bisecting LLVM
between llvmorg-23-init and release/23.x.

commit 0a3fe972a7cb ("HID: core: Mitigate potential OOB by removing
bogus memset()") enforced the provided data to be at least the size of
the declared buffer in the report descriptor to prevent a buffer
overflow. However, we can try to be smarter by providing both the buffer
size and the data size, meaning that hid_report_raw_event() can make
better decision whether we should plaining reject the buffer (buffer
overflow attempt) or if we can safely memset it to 0 and pass it to the
rest of the stack.

gcc-16 has gained some more advanced inter-procedual optimization
techniques that enable it to inline the dummy_tlb_add_page() and
dummy_tlb_flush() function pointers into a specialized version of
__arm_v7s_unmap:

>From what I can tell, the transformation is correct, as this is only
called when __arm_v7s_unmap() is called from arm_v7s_do_selftests(),
which is also __init. Since __arm_v7s_unmap() however is not __init,
gcc cannot inline the inner function calls directly.
In debug_objects_selftest(), the same thing happens. Both the
caller and the leaf function are __init, but the IPA pulls
it into a non-init one:

Marking the affected functions as not "__init" would reliably avoid this
issue but is not a good solution because it removes an otherwise correct
annotation. I tried marking the functions as 'noinline', but that ended
up not covering all the affected configurations.
With some more experimenting, I found that marking these functions as
__attribute__((noipa)) is both logical and reliable.
In order to keep the syntax readable, add a custom macro for this in
include/linux/compiler_attributes.h next to other related macros and
use it to annotate both files.

The parport subsystem registers port devices before they are fully
initialised, resulting in a race condition where client drivers such
as lp can attach to ports that are not completely initialised or even
being torn down.
When the port and client drivers are built as modules and loaded
around the same time during boot, this occasionally results in a
crash. I was able to make this happen reliably in a VM with a
PC-style parallel port by patching parport_pc to fail probing:

In the long term I think port registration should be changed to put
the call to device_add() inside parport_announce_port(), but since the
latter currently cannot fail this will require changing all port
drivers.
For now, add a flag to indicate whether a port has been "announced"
and only try to attach client drivers to ports when the flag is set.
