2017-08-24x86/lguest: Remove lguest supportJuergen Gross1-44/+0
Lguest seems to be rather unused these days. It has seen only patches ensuring it still builds the last two years and its official state is "Odd Fixes". Remove it in order to be able to clean up the paravirt code. 2015-02-11lguest: remove NOTIFY call and eventfd facility.Rusty Russell1-1/+1
Disappointing, as this was kind of neat (especially getting to use RCU to manage the address -> eventfd mapping). But now the devices are PCI handled in userspace, we get rid of both the NOTIFY hypercall and the interface to connect an eventfd. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2015-02-11lguest: remove lguest bus definitions from header.Rusty Russell1-47/+2
Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2015-02-11lguest: add infrastructure for userspace to deliver a trap to the guest.Rusty Russell1-0/+1
This is required for instruction emulation to move to userspace. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2015-02-11lguest: write more information to userspace about pending traps.Rusty Russell1-0/+13
This is preparation for userspace handling MMIO and ioport accesses. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2015-02-11lguest: add operations to get/set a register from the Launcher.Rusty Russell1-0/+2
We use the ptrace API struct, and we currently don't let them set anything but the normal registers (we'd have to filter the others). Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2009-07-30lguest: fix comment styleRusty Russell1-6/+12
I don't really notice it (except to begrudge the extra vertical space), but Ingo does. And he pointed out that one excuse of lguest is as a teaching tool, it should set a good example. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au> Cc: Ingo Molnar <mingo@redhat.com>
2009-06-12lguest: remove obsolete LHREQ_BREAK callRusty Russell1-1/+1
We no longer need an efficient mechanism to force the Guest back into host userspace, as each device is serviced without bothering the main Guest process (aka. the Launcher). Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2009-06-12lguest: use eventfds for device notificationRusty Russell1-0/+1
Currently, when a Guest wants to perform I/O it calls LHCALL_NOTIFY with an address: the main Launcher process returns with this address, and figures out what device to run. A far nicer model is to let processes bind an eventfd to an address: if we find one, we simply signal the eventfd. 2008-12-30lguest: move the initial guest page table creation code to the hostMatias Zabaljauregui1-1/+1
This patch moves the initial guest page table creation code to the host, so the launcher keeps working with PAE enabled configs. Signed-off-by: Matias Zabaljauregui <zabaljauregui@gmail.com> Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2008-12-30virtio: use LGUEST_VRING_ALIGN instead of relying on pagesizeRusty Russell1-0/+4
This doesn't really matter, since lguest is i386 only at the moment, but we could actually choose a different value. (lguest doesn't have a guarenteed ABI). Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2008-03-28lguest: comment documentation update.Rusty Russell1-1/+5
Took some cycles to re-read the Lguest Journey end-to-end, fix some rot and tighten some phrases. Only comments change. No new jokes, but a couple of recycled old jokes. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2008-02-04virtio: simplify config mechanism.Rusty Russell1-2/+7
Previously we used a type/len pair within the config space, but this seems overkill. We now simply define a structure which represents the layout in the config space: the config space can now only be extended at the end. The main driver-visible changes: 1) We indicate what fields are present with an explicit feature bit. 2) Virtqueues are explicitly numbered, and not in the config space. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2007-10-25lguest: documentation updateRusty Russell1-1/+5
Went through the documentation doing typo and content fixes. This patch contains only comment and whitespace changes. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2007-10-25lguest: clean up lguest_launcher.hRusty Russell1-14/+4
Remove now-unused defines. Fix old idempotent #ifndef _ASM_LGUEST_USER name. Fix comment on use of lguest_req. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2007-10-23Lguest support for VirtioRusty Russell1-28/+19
This makes lguest able to use the virtio devices. We change the device descriptor page from a simple array to a variable length "type, config_len, status, config data..." format, and implement virtio_config_ops to read from that config data. We use the virtio ring implementation for an efficient Guest <-> Host virtqueue mechanism, and the new LHCALL_NOTIFY hypercall to kick the host when it changes. We also use LHCALL_NOTIFY on kernel addresses for very very early console output. We could have another hypercall, but this hack works quite well. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2007-10-23Remove old lguest I/O infrrasructure.Rusty Russell1-35/+1
This patch gets rid of the old lguest host I/O infrastructure and replaces it with a single hypercall "LHCALL_NOTIFY" which takes an address. The main change is the removal of io.c: that mainly did inter-guest I/O, which virtio doesn't yet support. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2007-10-23Remove old lguest bus and drivers.Rusty Russell1-26/+0
This gets rid of the lguest bus, drivers and DMA mechanism, to make way for a generic virtio mechanism. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
2007-10-23Make lguest_launcher.h types userspace-friendlyRusty Russell1-10/+11
lguest_launcher.h uses "u32" not "__u32", which sets a bad example. Fix that, and include <linux/types.h>. This means we need to use -I on the Launcher build line so types.h is found. Signed-off-by: Rusty Russell <rusty@rustcorp.com.au>
