2008-06-10powerpc: Remove arch/ppc and include/asm-ppcPaul Mackerras1-289/+0
All the maintained platforms are now in arch/powerpc, so the old arch/ppc stuff can now go away. 2008-05-12[POWERPC] ppc: More compile fixesPaul Mackerras1-1/+1
This fixes a few more miscellaneous compile problems with ARCH=ppc. 1. Don't compile devres.c on ARCH=ppc, it doesn't have ioremap_flags. 2. Include <asm/irq.h> in setup.c for the __DO_IRQ_CANON definition. 3. Include <linux/proc_fs.h> in residual.c for the definition of create_proc_read_entry. 4. Fix xchg_ptr to be a static inline to eliminate a compiler warning. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2008-02-07Add cmpxchg_local to ppcGunnar Larisch1-2/+49
Add a local processor version of cmpxchg for ppc. Implements __cmpxchg_u32_local and uses it for 32 bits cmpxchg_local. It uses the non NMI safe cmpxchg_local_generic for 1, 2 and 8 bytes cmpxchg_local. 2007-10-23ppc: fix AT_VECTOR_SIZE on arch/ppcGrant Likely1-0/+1
Commit 4f9a58d75bfe82ab2b8ba5b8506dfb190a267834 ("increase AT_VECTOR_SIZE to terminate saved_auxv properly") changes the size of AT_VECTOR_SIZE from hard coded '44' to a calculation based on the value of AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH and AT_VECTOR_SIZE_BASE. The change works for arch/powerpc, but it breaks arch/ppc because the needed AT_VECTOR_SIZE_ARCH is not present in include/asm-ppc/system.h and a default value of 0 is used instead. This results in AT_VECTOR_SIZE being too small and it causes a kernel crash on loading init. 2007-07-22[POWERPC] Fix ARCH=ppc buildsJosh Boyer1-0/+1
The recent signal rework broke ARCH=ppc builds with the following error: CC arch/powerpc/kernel/signal.o arch/powerpc/kernel/signal.c: In function ‘do_signal’: arch/powerpc/kernel/signal.c:142: error: implicit declaration of function ‘set_dabr’ make[1]: *** [arch/powerpc/kernel/signal.o] Error 1 This fixes it by including a function prototype in asm-ppc/system.h. 2007-05-08atomic.h: atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular ↵Mathieu Desnoyers1-1/+0
dependency atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. I agree (with Andi Kleen) this typeof is not needed and more error prone. All the original atomic.h code that uses cmpxchg (which includes the atomic_add_unless) uses defines instead of inline functions, probably to circumvent a circular dependency between system.h and atomic.h on powerpc (which my patch addresses). Therefore, it makes sense to use inline functions that will provide type checking. atomic_add_unless as inline. Remove system.h atomic.h circular dependency. Digging into the FRV architecture shows me that it is also affected by such a circular dependency. Here is the diff applying this against the rest of my atomic.h patches. It applies over the atomic.h standardization patches. 2006-07-15[PATCH] remove set_wmb - arch removalSteven Rostedt1-1/+0
set_wmb should not be used in the kernel because it just confuses the code more and has no benefit. Since it is not currently used in the kernel this patch removes it so that new code does not include it. All archs define set_wmb(var, value) to do { var = value; wmb(); } while(0) except ia64 and sparc which use a mb() instead. But this is still moot since it is not used anyway. Hasn't been tested on any archs but x86 and x86_64 (and only compiled tested) Signed-off-by: Steven Rostedt <rostedt@goodmis.org> Signed-off-by: Linus Torvalds <torvalds@osdl.org>

2006-01-12powerpc: make ARCH=ppc use arch/powerpc/kernel/process.cPaul Mackerras1-2/+10
Commit 5388fb1025443ec223ba556b10efc4c5f83f8682 made signal_32.c use discard_lazy_cpu_state, which broke ARCH=ppc because that uses the common signal_32.c but has its own process.c. Make ARCH=ppc use the common process.c to fix this and to reduce the amount of duplicated code. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-29[PATCH] ppc32: nvram driver for chrpOlaf Hering1-0/+1

2005-10-27[PATCH] powerpc: Fix handling of fpscr on 64-bitDavid Gibson1-2/+2
The recent merge of fpu.S broken the handling of fpscr for ARCH=powerpc and CONFIG_PPC64=y. FP registers could be corrupted, leading to strange random application crashes. The confusion arises, because the thread_struct has (and requires) a 64-bit area to save the fpscr, because we use load/store double instructions to get it in to/out of the FPU. However, only the low 32-bits are actually used, so we want to treat it as a 32-bit quantity when manipulating its bits to avoid extra load/stores on 32-bit. This patch replaces the current definition with a structure of two 32-bit quantities (pad and val), to clarify things as much as is possible. The 'val' field is used when manipulating bits, the structure itself is used when obtaining the address for loading/unloading the value from the FPU. While we're at it, consolidate the 4 (!) almost identical versions of cvt_fd() and cvt_df() (arch/ppc/kernel/misc.S, arch/ppc64/kernel/misc.S, arch/powerpc/kernel/misc_32.S, arch/powerpc/kernel/misc_64.S) into a single version in fpu.S. The new version takes a pointer to thread_struct and applies the correct offset itself, rather than a pointer to the fpscr field itself, again to avoid confusion as to which is the correct field to use. Finally, this patch makes ARCH=ppc64 also use the consolidated fpu.S code, which it previously did not. Built for G5 (ARCH=ppc64 and ARCH=powerpc), 32-bit powermac (ARCH=ppc and ARCH=powerpc) and Walnut (ARCH=ppc, CONFIG_MATH_EMULATION=y). Booted on G5 (ARCH=powerpc) and things which previously fell over no longer do. Signed-off-by: David Gibson <dwg@au1.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>

2005-10-11ppc: Various minor compile fixesPaul Mackerras1-0/+3
This fixes up a variety of minor problems in compiling with ARCH=ppc arising from using the merged versions of various header files. A lot of the changes are just adding #include <asm/machdep.h> to files that use ppc_md or smp_ops_t. This also arranges for us to use semaphore.c, vecemu.c, vector.S and fpu.S from arch/powerpc/kernel when compiling with ARCH=ppc. Signed-off-by: Paul Mackerras <paulus@samba.org>
2005-10-01powerpc: merge idle_power4.S and trapc.sStephen Rothwell1-1/+1
Use idle_power4.S from ppc64 as we are not going to support 32 bit power4 in the merged tree. Merge ppc64 traps.c into powerpc traps.c: use ppc64 versions of exception routine names (as they don't have StudlyCaps) make all the versions if die() have the same prototype Signed-off-by: Stephen Rothwell <sfr@canb.auug.org.au>
2005-09-10[PATCH] ppc32: Kill init on unhandled synchronous signalsPaul Mackerras1-0/+1
This is a patch that I have had in my tree for ages. If init causes an exception that raises a signal, such as a SIGSEGV, SIGILL or SIGFPE, and it hasn't registered a handler for it, we don't deliver the signal, since init doesn't get any signals that it doesn't have a handler for. But that means that we just return to userland and generate the same exception again immediately. With this patch we print a message and kill init in this situation. This is very useful when you have a bug in the kernel that means that init doesn't get as far as executing its first instruction. :) Without this patch the system hangs when it gets to starting the userland init; with it you at least get a message giving you a clue about what has gone wrong. 2005-09-05[PATCH] ppc32: export cacheable_memcpy()Eugene Surovegin1-0/+1
Add declaration and cacheable_memcpy(). I'll be needing this function in new 4xx EMAC driver I'm going to submit to netdev soon. IMHO, the better place for the declaration would be asm-powerpc/string.h, unfortunately, ppc64 doesn't have this function, so asm-ppc/system.h is the next best place. 2005-04-17Linux-2.6.12-rc2v2.6.12-rc2Linus Torvalds1-0/+207
Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
