2007-12-19IA64: Slim down __clear_bit_unlockChristoph Lameter1-3/+14
__clear_bit_unlock does not need to perform atomic operations on the variable. Avoid a cmpxchg and simply do a store with release semantics. Add a barrier to be safe that the compiler does not do funky things. 2007-10-19forbid asm/bitops.h direct inclusionJiri Slaby1-0/+4
forbid asm/bitops.h direct inclusion Because of compile errors that may occur after bit changes if asm/bitops.h is included directly without e.g. linux/kernel.h which includes linux/bitops.h, forbid direct inclusion of asm/bitops.h. 2007-10-19bitops: introduce lock opsNick Piggin1-0/+2
Introduce test_and_set_bit_lock / clear_bit_unlock bitops with lock semantics. Convert all architectures to use the generic implementation. 2006-05-05[IA64] remove asm-ia64/bitops.h self-inclusionJon Mason1-1/+0
asm-ia64/bitops.h includes itself. The #ifndef _ASM_IA64_BITOPS_H prevents this from being an issue, but it should still be removed. Signed-off-by: Jon Mason <jdmason@us.ibm.com> Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>

2006-03-26[PATCH] bitops: use non atomic operations for minix_*_bit() and ext2_*_bit()Akinobu Mita1-5/+5
Bitmap functions for the minix filesystem and the ext2 filesystem except ext2_set_bit_atomic() and ext2_clear_bit_atomic() do not require the atomic guarantees. But these are defined by using atomic bit operations on several architectures. (cris, frv, h8300, ia64, m32r, m68k, m68knommu, mips, s390, sh, sh64, sparc, sparc64, v850, and xtensa) This patch switches to non atomic bit operation. 2005-04-21[IA64] fix fls()David Mosberger-Tang1-4/+17
The ia64-version of fls() never worked as intended (the bitnumbering was off by 1 and fls(0) was undefined). This patch fixes the problem by using a popcnt-based fls(), which on McKinley-derived cores is slightly faster than both ia64_fls() and generic_fls(). The resulting code, however, is bigger (7-8 bundles instead of about 3 bundles). Also switch ia64_popcnt() to __builtin_popcountl() for GCC v3.4 or newer since the compiler can predicate that and schedule it better. Thanks to Simon Derr and Matt Mackall for tracking down this bug. Signed-off-by: David Mosberger-Tang <davidm@hpl.hp.com> Signed-off-by: Tony Luck <tony.luck@intel.com>

Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
