2019-01-05fat: new inline functions to determine the FAT variant (32, 16 or 12)Carmeli Tamir1-1/+1
This patch introduces 3 new inline functions - is_fat12, is_fat16 and is_fat32, and replaces every occurrence in the code in which the FS variant (whether this is FAT12, FAT16 or FAT32) was previously checked using msdos_sb_info->fat_bits. 2018-10-31fat: add functions to update and truncate timestamps appropriatelyFrank Sorenson1-0/+75
Add the fat-specific inode_operation ->update_time() and fat_truncate_time() function to truncate the inode timestamps from 1 nanosecond to the appropriate granularity. 2018-10-31fat: create a function to calculate the timezone offestFrank Sorenson1-7/+9
Patch series "fat: timestamp updates", v5. fat/msdos timestamps are stored on-disk with several different granularities, some of them lower resolution than timespec64_trunc() can provide. In addition, they are only truncated as they are written to disk, so the timestamps in-memory for new or modified files/directories may be different from the same timestamps after a remount, as the now-truncated times are re-read from the on-disk format. These patches allow finer granularity for the timestamps where possible and add fat-specific ->update_time inode operation and fat_truncate_time functions to truncate each timestamp correctly, giving consistent times across remounts. This patch (of 4): Move the calculation of the number of seconds in the timezone offset to a common function. 2018-08-22fat: propagate 64-bit inode timestampsArnd Bergmann1-6/+7
Now that we pass down 64-bit timestamps from VFS, we just need to convert that correctly into on-disk timestamps. To make that work correctly, this changes the last use of time_to_tm() in the kernel to time64_to_tm(), which also lets use remove that deprecated interfaces. Similarly, the time_t use in fat_time_fat2unix() truncates the timestamp on the way in, which can be avoided by using types that are wide enough to hold the intermediate values during the conversion. 2017-11-28Rename superblock flags (MS_xyz -> SB_xyz)Linus Torvalds1-1/+1
This is a pure automated search-and-replace of the internal kernel superblock flags. The s_flags are now called SB_*, with the names and the values for the moment mirroring the MS_* flags that they're equivalent to. Note how the MS_xyz flags are the ones passed to the mount system call, while the SB_xyz flags are what we then use in sb->s_flags. The script to do this was: # places to look in; re security/*: it generally should *not* be # touched (that stuff parses mount(2) arguments directly), but # there are two places where we really deal with superblock flags. FILES="drivers/mtd drivers/staging/lustre fs ipc mm \ include/linux/fs.h include/uapi/linux/bfs_fs.h \ security/apparmor/apparmorfs.c security/apparmor/include/lib.h" # the list of MS_... constants SYMS="RDONLY NOSUID NODEV NOEXEC SYNCHRONOUS REMOUNT MANDLOCK \ DIRSYNC NOATIME NODIRATIME BIND MOVE REC VERBOSE SILENT \ POSIXACL UNBINDABLE PRIVATE SLAVE SHARED RELATIME KERNMOUNT \ I_VERSION STRICTATIME LAZYTIME SUBMOUNT NOREMOTELOCK NOSEC BORN \ ACTIVE NOUSER" SED_PROG= for i in $SYMS; do SED_PROG="$SED_PROG -e s/MS_$i/SB_$i/g"; done # we want files that contain at least one of MS_..., # with fs/namespace.c and fs/pnode.c excluded. 2012-12-18fat: provide option for setting timezone offsetJan Kara1-3/+6
So far FAT either offsets time stamps by sys_tz.minuteswest or leaves them as they are (when tz=UTC mount option is used). However in some cases it is useful if one can specify time stamp offset on his own (e.g. when time zone of the camera connected is different from time zone of the computer, or when HW clock is in UTC and thus sys_tz.minuteswest == 0). So provide a mount option time_offset= which allows user to specify offset in minutes that should be applied to time stamps on the filesystem. akpm: this code would work incorrectly when used via `mount -o remount', because cached inodes would not be updated. But fatfs's fat_remount() is basically a no-op anyway. 2010-08-18remove SWRITE* I/O typesChristoph Hellwig1-1/+3
These flags aren't real I/O types, but tell ll_rw_block to always lock the buffer instead of giving up on a failed trylock. Instead add a new write_dirty_buffer helper that implements this semantic and use it from the existing SWRITE* callers. Note that the ll_rw_block code had a bug where it didn't promote WRITE_SYNC_PLUG properly, which this patch fixes. In the ufs code clean up the helper that used to call ll_rw_block to mirror sync_dirty_buffer, which is the function it implements for compound buffers. 2009-09-19fat: Check s_dirt in fat_sync_fs()OGAWA Hirofumi1-3/+5
If we didn't check sb->s_dirt, it will update the FSINFO unconditionally. It will reduce the filetime of flash base device. So, this checks sb->s_dirt. sb->s_dirt is racy, however FSINFO is just hint. So even if there is race, and we hit it, it would not become big problem. 2008-07-25fatfs: add UTC timestamp optionJoe Peterson1-4/+6
Provide a new mount option ("tz=UTC") for DOS (vfat/msdos) filesystems, allowing timestamps to be in coordinated universal time (UTC) rather than local time in applications where doing this is advantageous. In particular, portable devices that use fat/vfat (such as digital cameras) can benefit from using UTC in their internal clocks, thus avoiding daylight saving time errors and general time ambiguity issues. The user of the device does not have to worry about changing the time when moving from place or when daylight saving changes. The new mount option, when set, disables the counter-adjustment that Linux currently makes to FAT timestamp info in anticipation of the normal userspace time zone correction. When used in this new mode, all daylight saving time and time zone handling is done in userspace as is normal for many other filesystems (like ext3). The default mode, which remains unchanged, is still appropriate when mounting volumes written in Windows (because of its use of local time). I originally based this patch on one submitted last year by Paul Collins, but I updated it to work with current source and changed variable/option naming. Ogawa Hirofumi (who maintains these filesystems) and I discussed this patch at length on lkml, and he suggested using the option name in the attached version of the patch. Initial git repository build. I'm not bothering with the full history, even though we have it. We can create a separate "historical" git archive of that later if we want to, and in the meantime it's about 3.2GB when imported into git - space that would just make the early git days unnecessarily complicated, when we don't have a lot of good infrastructure for it. Let it rip!
